Overview

‘Sandstock’ is back for a 5th year! This Sandstone MacEwan Community Association (SMCA) event is

aimed at bringing family, friends and residents together to enjoy a fun filled afternoon with activities for

the kids, arts & crafts, and great live music! Everyone is welcome to attend this exciting free afternoon

event on Sunday, August 20th. We are anticipating close to 500 people to attend the 2017 version of

Sandstock!

Sandstock began as Sandstone Music in the Park in 2013 as an opportunity to showcase some of

Calgary’s up and coming musicians. There were two events that year drawing about 150 people on a

rather poor weather Thursday night in July and 250 a month later for the Sunday afternoon event in

August.

MacSand’s Community Block Party began in the fall of 2012 as an event to bring the surrounding

communities together to come out and meet neighbours, enjoy some fun and increase SMCA’s

memberships. Free food enticed over 300 people to attend along with bouncy houses and craft were

available for the kids. Door prizes were also available to be won and community memberships were for

sale.

In 2014 it was decided to join these two events together in late August with the purpose of having a

larger event bringing family, friends and residents together to enjoy a free family fun filled afternoon

with kid activities, some great live music and arts & crafts! This is also an opportunity for SMCA to not

only drum up support for our community association but to inspire others to get involved with their

communities. When people get involved with their community, it helps make that community better!

Getting There & Parking

Public Parking is available along Sandstone Drive NW both sides of the street across from the park and in

the nearby Sandstone Transit Terminal. The nearby Sandstone Transit Bus Loop parking lot is just one

block to the SE of the park.

Taking Calgary Transit to Sandstock is a viable option because the following bus routes feed into the

Sandstone Transit Terminal on Sunday, August 20th:

3 – Sandstone

46 – Beddington

118 – Hidden Valley

430 – Sandstone/Airport

We would also encourage people to walk or ride their bikes. The Calgary Bike Pathway system feeds

directly into Sandstone Park via regional pathway in addition Sandstone Drive is an on street bike route.

Music and Entertainment

Listen to talented local musicians on the main stage are that will keep things lively throughout the event.

Bow River Band

Bowriver is one of Calgary's top party bands. Comprising of Adam Richer. Stephanie Dawn, Michael

Richer and Fernando Longhi this high energy four piece is sure to please covering a wide range of music

from Classic and Modern Rock, Country and Disco, theu offer a little something for everyone!

Vivo Play Ambassadors

Build play into every day! Play allows children of all ages (including the grown-up ones) to foster

creativity, decision-making, problem-solving, and social skills and perhaps most importantly, it’s a blast!

Have some fun with the Play Ambassadors at Sandstock!

Kids Town

Kids Town will be full of kid activities and attractions for the young ones! Vivo will be providing

Sandstock an obstacle course and small bouncy castle. The Vivo Ambassadors will also lead the children

thru Dance Play between the band performances. YYC Calgary Airport Authority will be bringing an

interactive runway to demonstrate the workings of an airport. Kids Town is also located near the

existing playground area.

Artisan Markets

The Sandstock Artisan Market will consist of numerous arts, crafts and various tables selling a broad

range of wares. Vendors are to purchase a 2017/18 SMCA Membership for $20 and will be supplied

with a table in our artisan market area. Vendors should bring their own chair and some type of shade

such as a pop-up gazebo or large umbrella that can be staked down.

Foodville

Foodville will be the food destination of Sandstock. SMCA in conjunction with M&M Meat Shops

Beddington Barbecue Service will be selling hamburgers and water. Those people that purchase or

show their current 2017/2018 SMCA Membership card will receive a free burger and water!

What’s a festival without ice cream?! Cool Breeze Cones will again be bringing their popular ice cream

truck to sell tasty treats to all kids at heart.
