The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) in Hospitality and Tourism at SHSS involves students completing a package of 9 courses that meet the needs of all students with an interest in developing the skills necessary for a career in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. The Hospitality and Tourism Industry acknowledges and supports the program through certification and appropriate industry placements.

In order to complete a SHSM in Hospitality and Tourism students must: 1. Complete a package of 9 specific courses (see chart below).2. Obtain Industry Certification.3. Obtain job experience (e.g. Co-op work experience, job shadowing, job twinning).4. Document the industry essential skills using the Ontario Skills Passport.5. Gain “Reach Ahead Experience” (e.g. through an apprenticeship program or post secondary institution.)
