Samani, mother of Sanaz. “Shetold me she wanted to give hermoney and get money from theneighbors for Haiti.”

Shortly thereafter, Sanazbegan her efforts by donating herpersonal $60 that she receivedfrom the Tooth Fairy and birthdaypresents. The money that she hadbeen saving for six months beganthe journey in collecting her goal of$300.

“Iʼm super proud of her,” saidElise Samani, who has turned intoSanaz s̓ driver and sous chef. “Thebrownies she has been making byherself. I just put all the ingredientson the counter. She gets a chairbecause she canʼt reach and makesthem herself. She even uses theelectric mixer. Then she carries thetray to the oven and that s̓ when Itake over.”

All donations from Sanaz s̓baked goods will be given to the

International Surgical Health Ini-tiative (ISHI), a nonprofit organiza-tion that is located in New Jerseyand is dedicated to improving thehealth of underserved peoplearound the world by providing

much-needed surgical care. EliseSamani herself donates to ISHImonthly due to her ties to a friendand surgeon involved in the organ-ization. ISHI members justreturned from a rescue mission inHaiti and plan to undertake anothermission in the near future.

“I always tell my kids thatthere s̓ so many kids in Africa andelsewhere that donʼt have food,”said Samani. “I tell them they arelucky to have food, a bed, toys. Idonʼt want them to be spoiled.”

The life lessons Samani isteaching her 6-year-old and 3-year-old daughters are definitely makinga strong impact as Sanaz embarkson the final leg of her fund-raisingefforts.

Discount tickets recentlywent on sale for the Zion Luther-an School Beefsteak Dinner,Tricky Tray and Auction. Theevent will take place on theevening of April 24 at the West-wood Community Center.

Tickets cost $30 per personnow through Feb. 28 and $35 afterthat. The event includes a BYOBfilet mignon dinner catered by

Nightingales as well as a trickytray and live auction.
