Engineering has been called the “invisible profession” or the “stealth profession” because most people have

no idea what engineers do. This is unfortunate, because everything in society is linked to engineering.

A 1998 poll indicated 61% of adults felt “not very well” or “not at all well” informed about engineering.

According to the definition of engineering ,all the people who apply math and science

To generate some thing useful are engineers , if a computer science student ,may be BSc/BCA/MSc/MCA/

BE/ME who delivers some project can be considered as an Engineer , more specifically Software Engineer .As 3

out of 4 Jobs in India today are some software related software engineer the small line between engineer and

software engineer is vanishing . All the software companies are considering Post Graduates in computer science

as equivalent qualification for Computer engineering. In USA most of the companies say “BS in computer science

or equivalent experience “ so , even normal graduates with some work experience can be considered as having

qualified computer engineers. The World that Never Was

Engineering is not science. Engineers generally don’t “do” science. Science is about discovering the natural.

Engineering is creating the artificial. Scientists discover the world that exists; engineers create the world that never

was. The Most Creative

Engineers as a group are probably the most creative people. They synthesize, solve problems and innovate.

They make new things and make old things better. People in the arts are creative too; but their creativity deals with

thoughts or emotions. Engineering creativity is directed at things

Mining engineering is a division of engineering which studies the techniques for extracting minerals from

natural environment that involves the energy sources, non-metallic and metallic ores and solid fuels. The mining

technique involves blasting, production, processing, drilling, marketing, extraction and development. Apart from

these techniques the main task of mining engineers is to check that the project on which they are working is

environmentally safe and not destroying the natural environment. Mining engineers must have the knowledge

about the underground and opencast coal or ore mining. This field of work has a lot of job prospects as India is

the land of natural resources.

Job Prospects: Mining engineering is among the most lucrative career options and growth opportunities in

PharmacyA fast growing sector, pharma is second only to IT, with a 15% annual growth rate and exports crossing Rs 12,000

crore. Jobs in the pharmaceutical industry range from those in sales and marketing to high-end specialist R&D jobs.

Depending on the extent of study and the area you specialise in (pharmacology, pharmaceutics, hospital pharmacy or

quality assurance) study, you can opt for research. Research openings are growing in India. But those with doctoral and

post-doctoral qualifications find challenging avenues in R & D labs abroad. Apart from the drug manufacturing industry,

pharmacists are also employed in the chemical industry and food and drug control organisations.

Pharmacy is the health profession that links the health sciences with the chemical sciences and it is charged with

ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical drugs. The scope of pharmacy practice includes more traditional

roles such as compounding and dispensing medications, and it also includes more modern services related to health

care, including clinical services, reviewing medications for safety and efficacy, and providing drug information. Pharmacists,

therefore, are the experts on drug therapy and are the primary health professionals who optimize medication use to

provide patients with positive health outcomes.

Traditionally a qualification in Pharmacy was associated with a lifetime career as a chemist. Knowledge and training

in Pharmaceutics offers a wide array of career options to the students. The programme is no longer confined to the

laboratories or classrooms and goes beyond the curriculum. The career options after the programme are also immense.

sgi156Library

Studies serve for delight, for ornament and for ability. Some books are to be tasted; others to be swallowed

and still others are to be digested. There are books of the hour and books for all times. But reading books provides

a lot of pleasure for us. Books give comfort not only in happiness but also even in sorrow. And so we are indebted

a lot to books. The amount of satisfaction and self-confidence we derive by reading a book cannot be estimated in

terms of monetary value. That pleasure is inexplicable and indescribable. We can share our pleasure with others

also by telling them the beauty of the subject matter and the effectiveness of the style. A man can forget his worries

by completely immersing himself in reading a book. Reading books affords to provide a kind of recreation, relief,

satisfaction and confidence which fellow human beings fail to. Happy is the man who acquires the habit of reading.

He secures a lifelong source of pleasure instruction and inspiration. So long as he is in possession of his beloved

books he need never feel lonely he always has a pleasant occupation of leisure moments so that he need never

feel bored. He is the possessor of wealth more precious than gold.

Ruskin calls books “Kings Treasures” treasuries filled, not with gold and silver and precious stones but with riches

much more valuable than these - Knowledge, noble thoughts and high ideals.
