Dear San Tan Elementary Families, I am looking forward to another great year at San Tan Elementary. This is my third year as the principal and our staff and students have done some great things over the years. We will begin our second year in the journey of utilizing the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People framework at our school. San Tan Elementary is a Leader in Me School that uses the language of the 7 Habits throughout the educational experience. The Leader in Me is Franklin Covey's whole school transformation process. It teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. We believe that having common language across our K-6 system will make us an even better school. We have so many great students, families, and staff members that are committed to growing every day to make San Tan Elementary the best school to learn and teach in Arizona. If you are interested in more information about this exciting journey, feel free to visit www.theleaderinme.org. Everyday we strive to provide a meaningful educational experience to our Scorpions. Our mission is to Unite, Learn, Lead, and Inspire. We believe that with your support and partnership, anything is possible. Our PTO and Site Council are dedicated to provide opportunities and resources for our community, students, staff, and families to be engaged in the San Tan experience. We hope that this year you will choose to be involved in some aspect of our school to enhance the programs and services for our children. Let’s make this a Great year for your child! If you have any questions or ideas and want to share with the Administrative team, feel free to contact the front office to schedule a meeting. Sincerely, Ray Mercado Principal [email protected]

Dear San Tan Scorpion Parents, The 2016-2017 PTO Executive Board is very excited about this school year. We look forward to working with you , the San Tan teachers and staff, and the San Tan administration to make this San Tan ‘s best year yet! Brooke Garrett is our PTO President. She has 5 children with the youngest starting in Kindergarten this year. Brooke has genuinely loved getting to know the staff and other parents at San Tan, and is very excited about the scorpion community continuing to grow and become stronger. Prior to having children, Brooke taught 2nd grade and has found that she truly loves the elementary school environment. This is Brooke’s first year as a PTO president, and she is looking forward to learning a lot and working with others to make it a great year! Misty is the Vice President of Fundraising. She has five kids, 2 which attend San Tan Elementary (3rd & 5th), one 7th grader at Sossaman and two at Higley High (10th & 11th). She has been a part of the San Tan community for 16 years. Misty has been on the PTO board for the last 3 years as Vice President of Fundraising and President. Outside of PTO she enjoys running her business as an esthetician and spray tanning. Helen Babcock is the Vice President of Activities. She is a former San Tan teacher, and now the proud parent of three Scorpions! Mackenzie is a fourth grader, Cate a second grader, and Addison a kindergartner. This is her first year as a San Tan PTO Board Member and she is looking forward to working with our amazing staff and families to create great activities for all to share in this year! Katie Davis has successfully held several positions on the Executive Board in the past, to include VP of Fundraising, President & Treasurer. She is returning this year holding the Treasurer position again, after a 2 year break. As a well known face at San Tan, she is excellent at being timely and resourceful, to ensure the administrative parts of our financials, are executed effectively. Katie’s meticulous attention to detail also ensures best practices, and that our business financials are transparent and efficient. She has two girls who will be at San Tan, and one who will be attending Sossaman Middle School. She works at Higley High school and loves being part of the HUSD family. Jenn Zaur is our PTO Secretary. She is also new to the PTO Board this year. Jenn has four children, two of whom currently attend San Tan (4th and 1st grade) and two still at home. Jenn spent 12 years teaching at the elementary level before switching to teaching future teachers at the college level. She looks forward to sharing ideas from both a teacher and parent perspective this year. Andrea Thompson is the Parent-Teacher Liaison for the second year in a row. Andrea is a well known face around San Tan and has actually worked there for the last two years, most recently in the library. She has built solid, strong relationships with the staff members and with parents, which will serve her well in her role of Parent Teacher Liaison. This year, while aiding in the success of San Tan's programs, Andrea will also begin her journey of being a full time student in the dental hygiene program. Andrea has a son who will be entering 4th grade and a daughter who will be entering 2nd grade at San Tan this year. Alyssa Strohmaier is the Teacher-Parent Liaison for this school year! This is her third year teaching 2nd grade at San Tan. She grew up in Elgin, Illinois; but if you have no idea where that is, just think Chicago! Alyssa has been in Arizona for the last three years and loves it! She can't wait to be apart of our wonderful PTO helping out the staff and students of San Tan Elementary! Our PTO Board is looking to create some exciting changes this year. With our new board, as well as our coordinator positions, we hope you will join us at several of our activities, fundraising opportunities, and school events. There will be many chances for you to get involved! You can keep up with what is going on with our PTO by checking out our website: www.scorpions.digitalpto.com or emailing us at [email protected] Sincerely, San Tan PTO Board 2016-2017

San Tan Elementary has elected to go in a different direction with fundraising for the 2016-2017 school year. Based on feedback we have received, the traditional model of having numerous large school-wide fundraisers will not continue, including our Fun Run fundraiser. Most of these fundraisers only give a percentage back to the school. Instead, our PTO, principal and teachers will ask for a flat tax-deductible donation from each family in the school to help support the school and classrooms. Unlike traditional fundraisers, 100% of the money from your donations will be directed to the school and classrooms in order to support instruction. A presentation will be provided to parents with items of need for the school. Some of examples of items that might be purchased with your family’s donation are: Classroom manipulatives, literacy sets, computer software, projectors, classroom speakers, classroom supplies, and professional development for San Tan teachers and staff. Thank you, Ray Mercado - Principal Misty Campeau-Vice President of Fundraising

Fundraising Goal

Our goal is to raise $22,000 through your tax-deductible donations. We hope you and your family will help us meet our goal. If we are unable to meet our goal, we will explore other options for fundraising.
