AEA TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERINGSVCS INC#320Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Materials and Chemical Process Assess-ment (MCPA)

AEA Technology has for many years had anextensive capability in both experimental andcomputational thermochemistry and kinetics. These skills have been applied to studying thedetailed chemistry of a diverse range of pro-cesses for many customers, leading to im-provements in process design and optimiza-tion, safety and environmental impact. Since1992, these areas of chemical kinetics and

thermodynamics have been integrated in asingle product area, Materials and ChemicalProcess Assessment (MCPA).

MCPA brings together software, databases, consultancy, and experimental services andapplies them to industrial problems associatedwith the kinetics and energetics of chemicalprocesses and/or the determination of the con-centrations and identities of species generatedin processes. These processes can be stud-ied for a wide range of materials, includingmetal alloys, ceramics, glasses, slags, aque-ous solutions and vapor and aqueous phaseseither alone or in combination. Clearly, thescope of such studies is very wide and conse-quently MCPA has benefited a large numberof customers in a broad range of industry sec-tors.

logs from the pit. Our “Easycast” Hot Top Sys-tem of aluminum was developed for the pro-duction of aluminum alloy extrusion billets. Theunit is based on a closed Mold System pat-ented, and simultaneous casting as many asover 100 multiple strands can be cast in oneset-up. Less than 1 percent of the metal is lostin the form of “gate” on top of the billet, whichis a great improvement compared to the scraploss involved in conventionally cast billet.

This unique way to alloy aluminum has manyadvantages over other forms of hardeners.Besides being pre-weighed and moisture proofas stated above, the product is easy to store;reduces inventory; easy to use; fast dissolu-tion; high recoveries; free from contamination;and guaranteed composition.

In addition to the can hardeners, Master Al-loys supplies grain refiners and specialty al-loys to the aluminum industry.
