WHY DOES YOUR FAMILY HOMESCHOOL?

Think through all of the reasons you’ve chosen this path. What motivates you? What benefits does homeschooling bring? What do you wish to do that traditional schooling doesn’t offer? What do you wish to avoid?

EVALUATE LAST YEAR

In the white box, record details about where your child was last year before school started. In the grey box, record where your child is now. You may also need to take a look back at papers you’ve kept to help you remember.

CHUNK YOUR DAY

To get started, create a list of activities you wish to complete under each chunk of the day. This page is for elementary aged kids and under. You don’t have to list the details of every single item, but try to be as specific as you can. For example, morning time might include brushing your teeth, but you don’t need to record the individual steps for doing that task.

STORAGE PLAN (SHARED SPACE)

Using the list you made on the previous page, categorize all of the items in your homeschool room by how often you use them: Every day, Sometimes, and Annually. Next, note where you might store each of these items in the ideas column. Don’t be afraid of being messy here. This page is forbrainstorming ideas. If your kids are older and work in individual spaces, use pg. 76-77 instead.

CREATING YOUR PERFECT SPACE

Today we are actually going to put this room together step-by-step. First, note a time frame for accomplishing each step. Then go ahead and color in the circle of each step once you’ve completed it.

Pull out all “annual” materials and put them in boxes to be stored away.

Pull out your “sometimes” materials and separate them into like items.

Pull out your “every day” materials and separate them into like items.

Set up your furniture and clean if needed.

Put each of your “sometimes” items in their space.

Put each of your “every day” items in their space.

Consider wall decor, lighting, or rugs to make the space fun. You might also go for fun notebooks, paperclips, or writing utensils.

Have your children come in and give you feedback. Then make any necessary changes.

Celebrate your beautifully useful and effective space! (Yes, ice cream is totally acceptable.)

DETERMINE THE LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE

Evaluate each one of your children and place them in a level of independence. Note reasons for this choice and any other pertinent info you’d like to remember. If you aren’t familiar with our levels of independent learning, we have a free video masterclass to help.

PERSONAL STUFF WORKSHEET

When you designed your space, you made a list of items your family uses. Now we are getting personal. Make a list for each child of specific items he/she needs for school. Group your kids together by age as much as possible for these pages.

THIS MONTH’S GOALS (FOR MOM)

Every choice we make changes who we are becoming. In this space, brainstorm areas you’d like to work on for this month. Pray and ask God to reveal areas for growth. Record the things you are passionate about improving or the little things that seem to be making everything more difficult.

After you’ve brainstormed, categorize your goals into groups to help you focus. Pick NO MORE than one from each group to work on this month. Little by little, changes are made!
