Causes of stress in the workplace

• Excessively high workloads • Insufficient workloads • A lack of control over work activities • A lack of interpersonal support or poor working relationships • Difficulty settling into a new promotion • Concerns about job security, lack of career opportunities, or level of pay. • Bullying or harassment • A blame culture within your business where people are afraid to get things wrong or to admit to

making mistakes. • Lack of direction • Over-management, which can leave employees feeling undervalued and affect their self-esteem • Multiple reporting lines for employees • Failure to keep employees informed about significant changes to the business, causing them

uncertainty about their future. • A poor physical working environment, e.g. excessive heat, cold or noise, inadequate lighting,

uncomfortable seating, malfunctioning equipment, etc.

Planting a Seed

- Start small - Pay-it-forward - Don’t try to do too much at once - Remember how you learn - What made the light bulb go on for you? - Use ‘What if ...’ scenarios - Make information person-centred - Fresh learners are the best teachers - You do not need to know the answer to everything - Don’t be afraid to play ‘devil’s advocate’ - Explore together - Make information interactive - Break learning down
