    What is a pronoun?

    A pronoun is a word we use instead of sayingsomeones or somethings name.1. Dan likes to play ping pong.

    Pronoun SortOne of the most difficult aspects of pronouns

    for students is gender agreement. Cut out the

    noun tiles provided. Ask the students if the nounis male or female and place it in the correct

    table. This activity may be used at centers, as an

    intervention, game, etc.

    Pronoun MatsYou and your students may use the

    provided pronoun mats to organize the givensentence strips. Each mat has a student icon

    that corresponds to a particular set ofsentences, that way if a student is stillhaving difficulty choosing the correctpronoun, they can have the visual cue ofmatching the icons.

    Simply read the sentence and decidewhich pronoun would best be used in place ofthe underlined noun. Place the sentence stripon the mat for the pronoun that would bestreplace the noun and then have student readthe sentence using the pronoun. This can bedone as a center or intervention activity.
