"We knew this day would come. We've prepared the planet without revealing ourselves. There is nothing more we can do against this gambit played by Earth's masters."

Conversation overheard during the Koreshi peregrination.

Terra Nova Gambit continues the story of the desperate campaign to save Terra Nova from a second invasion by Earth. Where Shattered Peace introduced the primary campaign fronts, this book explores three of the most important fronts and the events behind the scenes that will determine the fates of all of the colonies, but most especially that of Terra Nova. New power players emerge on the field of battle and change the landscape of events.

The CEF's allies from Utopia are introduced for the first time in Blitz! as a fully playable independent army. The Utopian Colonial Corps are explored in depth with a full look at their uniforms, ranks, medals, and equipment. The Utopians, CEF, and Black Talons also receive their first Regiments of Note in this book.

In addition to Regiments of Note, special characters and the ability to field veteran survivors give more options for players to explore new depths on the battlefield and provide a way to model unique units in their forces.

desperaTe MeasuresZucco Adamo looked at the holo-tank display on the bridge of the NCS Relentless. The rapidly disappearing contacts on the screen showed how grim the day's work had been. So many of his clan elders, friends, and family were out there fighting desperately to preserve their way of life for future generations. Adamo had seen this day coming ever since the first invasion. He had lived his life in service to his league and to the honor of his clan. Today would be the day, he thought to himself.

Claxons and warning lights eerily announced the almost silent death of the WFN Defiance, ten kilometers ahead of the Relentless. Zucco could feel the rumbling under his feet as the concussive shockwave from the explosion came rolling in, minutes after the ship's sensors recorded the nuclear detonation. Maderas Betomas, once Adamo's heated political rival, had been in command of the aging landship carrier and volunteered to spearhead the attack into the breach of Tolver Canyon where columns of the 778th and the 878th CEF combat groups had been assembling to push into the WFP. Adamo straightened his service jacket and looked at the men and women on the deck. Then facing the shuttered observation windows, Adamo raised a salute to honor the Maderan crew's sacrifice.

The aging men and women of the deck looked to Adamo's example and somberly followed in paying their respects. Every one of them felt the pangs of loss from the terror the CEF had wrought on them in the previous days. Many of them feared death, yet all were united in their resolve to finish this grim task to the end. Decades of service in their military and to their clans had prepared the crews of the WFPA's reactivated fleet for the possibility of the ultimate sacrifice.

Zucco offered a smile to ease the tension. "We can't let that Maderan show us up!" he growled. Looking at the holo-tank, Adamo's mind raced to find the best place to thrust his wing of the fleet. His experience from cycles of service as the field marshal of the WFPA were brought to bear one last time. Entering the coordinates into the console of the holo-tank, he looked to his second, "Bring the group about. Order the escorts to engage at will and keep their distance from each other. Now, we take this fight to them." The crew nodded silently and went quickly to work as their thoughts were pushed to the back of their minds.

As the landships' repulsor fields activated with a renewed vigor and the behemoths moved across the wind-swept flats of the Barrington deserts towards the array of Earther forces, Zucco Adamo reclined back into the well-worn commander's chair. He reached into his jacket's inner pocket and pulled out the plastic imaging sheet and stared at it for a few moments. "Elena..." Zucco's worn hands desperately grasped the photo of of the wife that he had lost in the orbital bombardment at the beginning of the invasion. Closing his eyes, he whispered a final prayer to her. "Soon. I'll see you soon, Elena."

"Sir, we have multiple enemy contacts by the vanguard," the sensor operator informed. him "Hostile forces have begun boarding the Hind and Excelsior. Their defensive line isn't holding sir!" The holo-tank's image flickered as the impact of enemy weaponry disrupted the circuitry of the display unit.

"Push forward, damn it! Keep us clear of the Hind," Adamo barked. A tremendous roar and wind rushing told the former field marshal that it was too late. Even if his men made it through the battle the radiation in the field would kill them in days.

"Sir, sensors read a breach in our lower decks!"

"We have hostiles pouring through the opening. Do we engage the SDM, sir?"

Zucco rose from his seat, "Men, it has been a pleasure serving with you. We do this for the Protectorate." He nodded to his crew and they saluted him as they replied enthusiastically, "For the Protectorate! Live Free, Die Hard!"

Looking over to his second, both men entered their codes into the system to set the landship's reactors to overload. Zucco Adamo, the last Field Marshal of the Protectorate, issued his final order. "Do it."

ColonIzaTIon

uTopIa

Discovered in 5435 A.D., the planet was initially considered not worth colonizing as the surface was simply barren rock that lacked any flora or fauna even though it resided in the solar system's life zone. After a number of years, the interest was renewed when a few mega-corporations on Earth looked at the possibility of terra-forming the planet for habitation.

One of these companies was Wilder-Grosz, who purchased the planet eight years after its discovery. The corporation invested a tremendous amount of capital into terra-forming the planet using the latest techniques, and less than a century later the planet was ready for habitation by colonists. In 5509 A.D., the planet was opened for colonization, and massive waves of colonists traveled to Utopia to start a new life. Wilder-Grosz moved their entire corporation to the planet shortly after opening, and began the process of exploiting the planet to increase their profits.

After centuries of prosperity, Utopia faced a daunting future with the withdrawal of the Human Concordat. The unified government that had existed under Wilder-Grosz splintered into five major countries spread throughout the continents. The most aggressive of these nations, the Magnate City States, declared war on their neighbors, the Vanguard of Donovan. The resultant short war included the use of anti-matter bombs used to annihilate three of the Vanguard's largest cities. The panic that ensued from the bombings lead to the realignment of the five nations into three superpower nations and a bunker building mentality throughout the world.

Decades later, a single terrorist act at an economic summit sent the relative peace of the world into a spiral of destruction the Utopians would call the Great War. Nuclear and biological weaponry were used indiscriminately, laying utter waste to the once verdant planet. The world's population huddled in their bunkers and waited for the madness to end, but as the war ended the surface had become unlivable. The survivors chose to expand their massive bunkers and the development of the Deep Cities resulted.

In the centuries after the Great War, four major states developed to unify shattered countries. On the continent of Etrusca, the United Republic of Steelgate grew out of the Magnate City States to emerge as a resource-rich power under military control. In the southern part of the Etruscan continent, the Greenway Alliance came together from the surviving Wilder-Grosz city states, and benefited from their expertise in biological fields. On the continent of Sumer, the Industrial States of Kogland and the Independent States contested each other for superiority of the lands.

Due to the necessity for preserving life, warfare in the post-Great War years was largely fought by automated drones, which increasingly became more and more sophisticated. When the CEF returned to Utopia, they encountered a devastated planet with superior technology compared to their own. Faced with the prospect of a force armed with superiour technology, the CEF 2nd Fleet chose to ally themselves with the Steelgate Republic rather than facing a unified planet as the 8th Fleet did on Terra Nova. The tactic worked exceedingly well; within nine months, the planet was totally subjugated by the CEF.

After the conquest, the CEF continued their tactic of collaboration and brought Kogland, Greenway, and the Independent States under a single Colonial State with representatives from each faction. The resulting participation from all of the planet's governments was a marked increase in productivity and technological advancements. Within a few decades, Utopia became a principal source for rearming and equipping the second stages of the CEF. The efforts of Utopia were recognized by the CEF, and the Utopian Colonial Corps were created to offer the planet's powers access to off-planet resources.

uTopIan dreaMs“I am death, the destroyer of worlds,” Artie proclaimed to Polly and Dio. The other two laughed at Artie’s loud proclamation and continued to sit still while Commander Morgan performed a check up.

“No really. I mean if you think about it, we are. How often do we get to ravage a new world? I mean we did so well on our own world,” Artie continued. The little NAI pod hummed around Morgan’s head as it continued to speak through its little speaker. “Morgan, what do you think? Do we get to kill the enemy and lay waste to the lands?”

Morgan looked up from her VR display and over at Artie, “I don’t think so. We don’t just want to destroy the place.” Morgan put down her pad and looked at the three detached NAI pods. When the N-KIDU’s were developed, the NAI systems were engineered to be ejectable from their massive housing. The idea behind the design was that the NAI’s would constantly learn and be more valuable on the field. In most cases, the NAI’s were lost when the housing units were damaged and the ejection systems wouldn’t engage. Morgan’s three drones were special. They had been with Morgan since she had joined the Utopian Colonial Corps, and had developed distinct personalities with the help of Morgan’s tinkering. Artie was the only one to have developed a female personality, but she was also the most aggressive of the three drones. Morgan thought that Artie wanted to be her favorite drone.

“But Morgan, why can’t we destroy the planet?” Artie asked. “That is what we’re designed for after all.”

“That’s true, but we fight to get things. If we kill the enemy, then Utopia gets to use this planet’s resources to fix our own. So… we can’t destroy this planet,” Morgan replied as she waved for the drone pod to come to her. Morgan hooked the cord from her datapad into the hovering capsule. The hum from the drone’s powerful fan could be felt through the white ballistic plastic shell of the small pod. As she finished hooking the wire into the port, Morgan wondered if the short hard bursts coming from the fan was from excitement or frustration. “What’s wrong, Artie?”

“Nothing, Morgan. I’m just confused,” the little pod answered quietly.

“You can’t hide it from me,” Morgan said as she pulled up the programming. “Just because we can’t destroy the planet, doesn’t mean that we won’t get a chance to kill the enemy. The Earthers have plenty of work for us.”

Artie bobbed up and down with the news, and proceeded to hover around in a restricted tight circle. “Oh goodie. I am death. Destroyer of… Terra Novans? Is that what they look like? This should be fun!”

Morgan disconnected the wire and smiled at the drone. They were all ready for what was ahead. Sam

uTopIan ColonIal CorpsDeveloped after the Utopian Colonial Senate passed a motion to centralize and standardize the planet's military, the Colonial Corps was key in bringing the modernization of Utopian forces. The War of the Alliance on Terra Nova had taught hard lessons to the CEF, and as plans developed for the second invasion, Steelgate and Kogland competed heavily to influence their CEF masters by developing and producing new weapons systems and armaments.

Commonwealth Integrity Directorate, the political control mechanism of the CEF and the main force of control exerted on Utopia, saw an opportunity to exploit the competing factions into a joint development venture and eventual armament of the two countries' armies for the coming attacks on Terra Nova, Jotunheim, and New Jerusalem. Three Terran years prior to the second invasion of Terra Nova, the two largest factions of Utopia ceded nearly a third of their military to aid in the colonial expansion of the various systems. CID promised increased funding into the rebuilding and decontamination processes utilizing captured colonial material in exchange for the added troops and material.

Armed with the new Armiger Automaton Controller units and advanced weapons systems, the new Utopian forces contributed significantly to the three planned invasion theaters.

MIlITary organIzaTIonThe Utopian Colonial Military Force is a blend of Steelgate and Kogland organizational structure. The largest organizations are the four corps: City, Ground, Marine, and Colonial. Each is commanded by a High General answerable to the 2nd CEF Fleet Admiral Mikola Bryson. Currently each of the four major factions of Utopia have one High General representing each of the corps.

Below the Corp are the legions, commanded by Generals. The Corps have a varying number legions as needed. Currently the largest corps is the Colonial Corps, with six legions. Two full legions are currently assigned to the operations on Terra Nova. Every legion is composed of two brigades commanded by Lieutenant Generals.

Each brigade is composed of four regiments, each commanded by a 2nd Commander. Regiments are further divided into two battalions commanded by 1st Commanders. Under the battalion and commanded by a Lieutenant Commander, are two companies.

Most Utopian forces are deployed with the CEF at the company level serving as reconnaissance or flanking forces. Each company is equipped with an autofac, an NAI controlled manufacturing device the size of a small building, to construct replacement drones and spare components for their Armiger suits.

Companies are each broken down to four platoons with the first platoon commanded by a Command Lancer and the remaining three commanded by a 2nd Lancer. Each platoon is composed of two sections commanded by 1st Lancers. Sections are composed of two troupes commanded by a Chief Armsman. Troupes consist of two Armigers and six to fourteen N-KIDU Automaton Drones depending on the troupe designation, or 4 APES (CEF Designated Golem Suits) Armsmen and up to 4 N-KIDU Automaton Drones.

Some N-KIDU Automaton Drones are linked and directed to independently seek and destroy certain targets. These swarms of drones operate through a period of time, occasionally receiving direction from operations command at CEF firebases located within a hundred kilometers of the area patrolled by the drones.
