INTRODUCTIONWelcome to Hammersong’s Legacy, a Region of Cameria Campaign Sourcebook. Hammersong’s Legacy has been developed with the Swords & Wizardry rules system in mind, and should prove easy to use for both Referees and players alike. The contents of this supplement are split into two sections, a Player’s Guide and a Referee Section, and players are encouraged to check with their Referees before reading the Referee Section. Additional game mechanics intended to supplement Swords & Wizardry can be found at the end of the Player’s Guide section.

Inspired by the fantasy campaign settings many of us grew up with, Hammersong’s Legacy provides Referees with a detailed region on the continent of Cameria in which to set their adventures, and enough background to inspire creativity without strangling the Referee with too much detail. Like all products of this kind, maintaining such a balance is understandably a tough tightrope to walk, but it is hoped that this sourcebook meets the needs of those players and Referees that are looking for a new setting for their next fantasy campaign.

Set in the aftermath of an epic war between the Elder Gods and their divine offspring, Hammersong’s Legacy focuses on the borderlands of the Duar Protectorate. Under the leadership of their great warrior-king, Ollum Hammersong, the Duar Protectorate has long been a bastion of hope in the dark days that followed the cataclysmic end of the War of All Gods. Despite the twisted monstrosities, tainted by the spilled blood of the Gods, that roam the wilderness, the civilized people have slowly reclaimed some of their former lands. At the direction of good King Hammersong, the Duar Protectorate offered aid to many of its neighbors, helping them to take those first steps toward recovery. Now, however, the great king is dead, and not everyone in the High Courts of the Duar Protectorate holds such noble goals as their former liege. A Regent’s Council rules temporarily, while agents of the High Court of Balmordak travel abroad in search of the king’s missing heir.

Hammersong’s Legacy provides a strong foundation for running a campaign set in this post-apocalyptic fantasy setting. In addition to detailed maps and locations, this sourcebook provides full details on the Gods of the New Order, the sentient races that inhabit the region, the history of Cameria and the Duar Protectorate, the village of Rynoc’s Reach to serve as a base of operations, a wide and varied range of adventure seeds, a small fantasy bestiary and more. In short, Referees will find a rich and vibrant setting for their fantasy campaigns within this sourcebook, which in turn will provide hours of joy and entertainment as players and Referees alike explore the shattered realms of Cameria and discover the secrets of Hammersong’s Legacy.

A Foreword by the Lord-SavantWithin these pages, dear reader, you shall find a brief overview of the realm of my birth, the world of Terantha, and the sad cataclysm that has befallen it. More specifically, I shall focus on the continent of Cameria. Even the mention of the name of my mother Plane still brings light to my heart, for Terantha was once a place of beauty. It is my firm belief that much of that beauty may yet return, for many of Terantha’s people and her creatures have survived the War of All Gods and may yet recover from the devastation of that horrible and bloody conflict. Alas, I and the others of my race shall not, for our people have suffered the taint of a Deity’s spilled blood, our homeland and our people rendered infertile by the Fallen Lady of Woes.

By the mercy of King Ollum Hammersong, Righteous Sovereign of the Duar Protectorate, I have been given this opportunity to record that which I have gathered in terms of lore in the wake of the War of All Gods, that others may learn from what little information I have wrought, and perhaps put it to good use when I and the other Elde have passed from the Plane Prime. Towards that end, I have prepared this treatise you hold in your hand, a gift to a great warrior-king whose generosity and kindness has allowed this old sage a home, a small library and the chance to record his life’s work. Thank you, Good King Hammersong, and may the Gods be merciful and bless your spirit and your kin as your reign now passes to your son, Prince Liam. May the Protectorate Rangers be quick in locating the Lost Heir, so that the lands do not suffer long without a watchful and benevolent sovereign.

PLAYER’S SECTIONHerein lays the Player’s Section of the Hammersong’s Legacy Campaign Setting. It is advised that all players and Referees review the material within. In regards to new game mechanics, players are urged to check with the Referee before utilizing any of it, as the new rules are optional. Much of this section is told from the perspective of Thaelandreus, Grand Magus and Lord-Savant of the Ancient Order of War Sages.

The World of Hammersong’s LegacyWhile a majority of this travelogue chronicles the region of the World of Terantha known as Hammersong’s Legacy, I can easily imagine that a basic knowledge of the continent of Cameria may prove beneficial in placing my new home of the Duar Protectorate in context with the world about it.

The Continent of CameriaTotally surrounded by water, the lands of Cameria are bound to the north by the Nothron Sea, to the east by the Cathayan Ocean, to the south by the Frozen Sea, and to the west by the Atlantean Ocean. A jungle-bound ismuth of land on the northeastern side of the continent forms a short land bridge to the northern continent of Quechuatlan, home of the Oltecan Empire.

The continent of Cameria is divided roughly into thirds by two mountain ranges that run north-south, one ancient and one newly wrought upon the world. These large regions are known to cartographers of old as the Eastern Shores, the Great Plains and the Western Shores. In the foul aftermath of the War of All Gods, the Great Plains have come to be called the Madlands.

The Eastern ShoresThe eastern mountain range was formed during the last days of the War of All Gods, when Vaeleria, the Shieldmatron, collapsed in battle, preventing the destruction of her chosen servitor race in the process. It is said that upon Valeria’s death, Terantha, the Earth Mother, took her divine granddaughter into her arms, forming the Vaelerian Mountains in the process. At the heart of those crimson mountains still lie the bleeding remains of the fallen warrior goddess.

Hesperia, the Twisted TimberlandsBefore the Great War, a feywood of impossible proportions stood along the eastern coast, a beautiful land known to its inhabitants as Hesperia, the home of the Elde. Upon the death of Sheranea, Lady of Woes, her body fell to the earth and burst into a shower of divine tears and the blood of the Gods, showering the feywood and twisting it into a dark, warped bog. The remnants of that once-magnificent forest were struck barren by the event, leaving behind the Twisted Timberlands, a shadow-ridden parody of a realm once teaming with life.

The ShirelandsWithin a great valley hidden in the mists of the Verdant Hills, the Vaelan made their home. Most of these diminutive folk were content to honor their patron, Vaeleria, the Shieldmatron, from the safety of their shires. Despite the fact that each shire remains independent of one another, most outsiders have taken to calling the great valley the Shirelands, in reference to the small villages collectively found within it.

White Wall of VaeleriaThe Verdant Hills are rough, and the ever-present mists only make it harder for large forces to travel through the region to attack the Shirelands. However, the entrance to the great valley of the Vaelan’s homeland once stood wide open. This made it easy for armies to march through the entrance into the great valley, despite having to travel through a gauntlet of defenders. In the beginning of the Great Conflict, Vaeleria gave of her own flesh, donating two ribs that transformed magically into the great bone-white wall that now stands in defense of the Shirelands. The Vaelan call this relic of their patron goddess the White Wall of Vaeleria, and defend it with pride and tenacity.

The MadlandsBound by the ancient Daggerback Mountains to the west and the newly formed Vaelarian Mountains to the east, the Madlands are best known for the monstrosities and abominations of such ferocity and terrible might forged as a result of the War of All Gods. Created when the blood of the goddess Vaelaria and the defeated Gods of the Elder Courts fell upon the Great Plains, these beasts wreak havoc on the remainder of the continent of Cameria, spilling around the mountain ranges and through treacherous passes to attack both the Eastern and Western Shores.

KelshandorFar to the south of the Madlands, along the shore of the Frozen Sea, stands a harsh and frigid land claimed by the “devil-folk”, the Kelshan. Although they primarily dwell in their underground city-states far beneath the world’s surface, the land of Kelshandor is Cameria’s sole Kelshan kingdom that exists on the surface of the land instead of beneath it. From the ports of their southern fjords, the slave raiders of Kelshandor strike at coasts and kingdoms far removed from their own. As is done in all Kelshan realms, Sandamos, Lord of Demons, is worshipped openly on the streets of their mountainous cities, and only the Demon King’s relations to the other Gods of the New Order prevents a religious war between the Kelshan and the more civilized races of Cameria. Even with that, however, tensions are strained, and it requires an extreme effort of diplomacy to maintain the semblance of peace.

WyrmanthisThe Wyrmblooded were originally created in alchemical laboratories in the southern expanses of the Daggerback Mountains by the ancient serpentfolk known as the Manasa. As their numbers grew, the Manasa turned that land into a crèche realm to help breed up those numbers. The Wyrmblooded gave their mountainous home the name of Wyrmanthis. Wyrmanthis has always held a special place in the hearts of the Wyrmblooded, but the land itself was devastated during the War of All Gods. Now that a century has passes since the fall of the last god, the draconic Wyrmblooded are organizing to return to their homeland and reclaim what they have come to see as their birthright.

The Western ShoresThe western coastal lands, home of the Manasan Empire, are separated from the remainder of the continent by the natural peaks of the Daggerback Mountains. Although the coastal regions are wet and fertile lands, the territory between the shores and the mountain range is dominated by the Bloody Sands, a desert of crimson sand which the serpentfolk known as the Manasa call their homeland.

A majority of the islands off the coast of Cameria are found in the Nothron Archipelago, an island chain that demarcates the border between the Nothron Sea and the Atlantean Ocean. The largest island of the Nothron Archipelago is the Isle of Patronos, where the Elder Goddess Psyche, Mistress of Dreams, is bound in the form of an avatar, her divine power limited of her own accord.

The Manasan EmpireBefore the War of All Gods, the serpentfolk controlled all lands of Cameria west of the Daggerback Mountains, and had extended their reach into the mountains and beyond through exploration and conquest. When the Great Conflict began, the Old Manasan Empire was thrown into chaos. Rallying behind their patron deity, Serpentea, the Manasa fought against the servitors of the Gods of the New Order. Although the serpentfolk began from a much stronger position, slowly but surely, the Manasan Empire lost territory as the Gods of the New Order continued to triumph. At the end of the War of All Gods, the Manasan Empire had been reduced once again to the confines of the Bloody Sands, trapped between the Duar Protectorate to the north and the raiding slavers of Kelshandor to the south.

The Isle of PatranosWhen the battle began to turn against the Gods of the Elder Courts, Psyche, Mistress of Dreams, approached Verdantis, the Green Lord, as he slept. The two gods brokered a deal in which the Dream Mistress withdrew her support of the Elder Gods in exchange for voluntarily exiling herself to an island of her choice. Verdantis agreed, and the Island of Patranos became the Plane Prime prison for the Elder Goddess Psyche. To this day, she remains bound on the island, trapped in the physical form of an avatar and unable to extend her personal power beyond the shores of Patranos.
