INTRODUCTION
The power and wealth of a nation is in its manpower
(Human Capital). The overall growth of a country depends
on manpower having broad knowledge, vast information,
wider skills, competencies and ideal qualities. These are
the basic things to strengthen head, heart and hands. At
present greater importance is being given to skill
development. Skill means ability. It is needed to become
competent. With practiced abilities and desire to apply
those leads to competencies (capability, empowerment,
efficiency, and expertness). Skill can be learned and
improved. These abilities can be developed by training,
knowledge and techniques.
Mainly, Hard Skills (technical skills) and Soft Skills (also
called Life skills, Generic Skills) are the two types of
skills. Hard skill means subject knowledge, technical
knowledge and ability to do a specific job. The Collins
English Dictionary defines the term "soft skills" as
"desirable qualities for certain forms of employment that
do not depend on acquired knowledge: they include
common sense, the ability to deal with people, and a
positive flexible attitude. As per the experts, there are
about sixty soft skills which are divided into Healthy Life
Skills, Rich Life Skills and Progressive Life Skills. Soft skill
means abilities and qualities of a person having an
impressive personality and higher education. Such skills
are needed to make life competent, happy and rich.
Persons having soft skills can play the best role, because
of expertise and efficiency. Generally, soft skills are
meant for building an influential personality and hard
skills for employment and self-employment. Corporate

sector demands manpower with the soft and hard skills.
As such, soft and hard skills building have become an
important instrument to increase employability,
efficiency, productivity, enrichment and empowerment of
human resources.
In 2014, separate Ministry of Skill Development and
Entrepreneurship was set up by Government of India.
National Skill Development Corporation is working under
this Ministry. In 2015, Pradhan Mantri Kaushaly Vikas
Yojana (PMKVY) has been launched. Under which the
thrust appears on development of technical skills. Even
though, both hard skills and soft skills are important,
there are hardly any books on soft skills. That acted as a
inspiration for this book. It would be useful to students of
all educational streams, professors, corporate personnel
and businessmen.
The contents of the book are divided into 29 chapters
covering the most common soft skills like Interview
Techniques, Group Discussion, Body Language,
Communication Skills, Leadership Skills, Thinking Skill,
Decision Making Skill, Problem Solving Skill etc. along
with some additional related topics.

GREAT PERSONALITY
Personality means possessing all those qualities and skills
which are commonly accepted. The term includes
knowledge, qualities, information, skills, principles and
values. High level personality is not the natural gift. It can
be changed and developed. It is built in family, through
society, friends, education and training. Personality is
called as self help. Mostly the development of personality
depends upon acquiring soft skills (generic skills / life
skills). Mostly technical skills and some soft skills are
needed for employment. It is expected that our youths
ought to shape their personality in young age. It is
experienced that great persons had shaped their life
mission in their young age. Young life is the valuable
asset with a person. If such age is wasted, it cannot be
regained even after spending Crores of rupees.
At the outset, youths should set their goal. Unless aim is
determined, person cannot be inspired to lead meaningful
life. When it is not decided to go, no road is useful for
journey. So, setting goal is necessary to give direction to
endeavor. However the aim must be clear and match the
values and reality. Continuous concentration on aim is
required like Arjuna, while shooting an arrow focused his
attention on the eye of a bird seated on a tree. In this
way, one should be goal-oriented. Internal and external
are the two aspects of personality. Physical build, face,

costume are related to external aspects. More importance
is given to inside of a person. Following example is
presented to enumerate this aspect.
A seller was selling balloons in a fair. In order to attract
customers, he was flying balloons of several colours in
the sky. A boy approached him and asked ―you are flying
green, blue, white, red balloons in the sky, but there is no
black coloured balloon. Why? It seems that Black
coloured balloon cannot fly‖. Seller explained by saying
that ―flying of balloon in the sky does not depend on its
colour but on the gas filled in it‖. The nature of
personality is like this. Effective personality is elevated
with knowledge, skills, qualities, attitude existing inside a
person.
Main facets of personality are explained as below−
1. Sound health:
Our basic responsibility towards living life is to maintain
health. Nothing can be achieved without sound health.
The mental power depends on physical strength. A
healthy person is energetic, active, efficient, and cheerful.
A person not maintaining health has to face many
difficulties, problems and constraints. Such persons find
very hard to shape the personality. They can‘t enjoy the
life. Unhealthy persons live life with desperation, pains,
troubles and grief.
So, live natural life. Do not get addicted. We can escape
from bad habits before very beginning. Self control keeps
bad habits at a distance. Do some exercise on regular
basis. Exercise stimulates body strength. Consume
energetic and balanced food on time. Maintain regularity
in your routine. The cause of many diseases is mind.
Always keep the mind satisfactory. Persons having good
