Hello Fellow Lions

A Happy New Year to all our Lions Members and Welcome back to 2014. I hope everyone has

had a wonderful Christmas and an exciting new year as we head into the second half of our Lions

year.

December turned out to be a very busy month with our Christmas Party at Frank and Kathy’s

house, what a great night we had. Thank you very much Frank and Kathy for hosting the

Christmas Party.

The following Friday Night was Christmas in the Village which I was unable to attend due to

family commitments but I would like to congratulate Lion Carmel and Leo Erin for being

presented with awards on the night, for their work in the community. The Awards were well

deserved.

Saturday Morning saw many of the Lions attending the Bendigo Bank Morning Tea where we

were able to interact with many of the locals and I for one was able to learn a lot about what

happens in the village, and about what other community group are involved in.

The Lions and Leos then organized ourselves for the Carseldine Bunning’s Sausage Sizzle where

we had an excellent turn up which made it easy for everyone and the day seemed to fly by. Thank

you Lion Alice for organizing the event as I am sure both groups are happy with the result.

Yours in Lionism

April Is Family and Friends Month!

Invite family and friends to learn, serve and celebrate with your club in April. Organize a service project,

plan an open house or host a lunch or picnic—you decide how to introduce your family and friends to the

club you love!

Here are some great ways to make your Family and Friends Month a success:

• Plan an Open House. Invite family and friends to learn more about your club and the difference

you are making in the community.

• Organize a service project. Let your family and friends feel the satisfaction of service by

involving them in a project for the environment, literacy, or a cause that’s important to your club.

• Host a Picnic or Barbecue. Celebrate with family and friends so they can get to know your club.

Find more information and resources for Family and Friends Month and the Lions World Lunch Relay at

lionsclubs.org.

Family Members Receive a Special Membership Discount

Encourage family members to join your club! They’ll receive a special discount on membership dues when

they join the same club through our Family Membership Program! Share the day, share the fun, and share

the dream of serving with family and friends in April!

Special Event!

Join the Lions World Lunch Relay on April 4th! The Lions World Lunch Relay is a 24-hour international

event that brings families and friends of Lions together in their local communities with families and

friends of Lions around the world. Start planning your lunch event today!

Quote of the month!

An Obituary to “COMMON SENSE” printed in the London Times

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense , who has been with us for

many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in

bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;

- Why the early bird gets the worm;

- Life isn't always fair;

- And maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn)

and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were

set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate;

teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimand-

ing an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they them-

selves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lo-

tion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and

wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received

better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own

home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming

cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settle-

ment.

Common Sense was preceded in death,

-by his parents, Truth and Trust,

-by his wife, Discretion,

-by his daughter, Responsibility,

-and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 5 stepbrothers;

- I Know My Rights

- I Want It Now

- Someone Else Is To Blame

- I'm A Victim

- Pay me for Doing Nothing

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

The officer says, 'I clocked you at 120 km/h, sir.'

The driver says, 'Christ, officer I had it on cruise

control at 100, perhaps your radar gun needs

calibrating.'

Not looking up from her knitting the wife says: 'Now

don't be silly dear, you know that this car doesn't have

cruise control.'

As the officer writes out the ticket, the driver looks

over at his wife and growls,'Can't you please keep your

mouth shut for once?'

The wife smiles demurely and says, ! 'You should be

thankful your radar detector went off when it did.'

As the officer makes out the second ticket for the

illegal radar detector unit, the man glowers at his wife

and says through clenched teeth, 'F..k it, woman, can't

you keep your mouth shut?'

The officer frowns and says,'And I notice that you're

not wearing your seat belt, sir. That's an automatic

$75 fine.'

The driver says, 'Yeah, well, you see officer, I had it

on, but took it off when you pulled me over so that I

could get my license out of my back pocket'

The wife says, 'Now, dear, you know very well that

you didn't have your seat belt on. You never wear your

seat belt when you're driving.'

And as the police officer is writing out the third ticket

the driver turns to his wife and barks, 'WHY DON'T

You shut the f..k up?

The officer looks over at the woman and asks, 'Does

your husband always talk to you this way, Ma'am?'

And the woman says 'Only when he's pissed.'

LIONS PURPOSES

CODE OF ETHICS

TO CREATE and foster a spirit of

understanding among the peoples of the

world.

TO PROMOTE the principles of good

government and good citizenship.

TO TAKE an active interest in the civic,

cultural, social and moral welfare of the

community.

TO UNITE the clubs in the bonds of

friendship, good fellowship and mutual

understanding.

TO PROVIDE a forum for the open

discussion of all matters of public

interest; provided, however, that partisan

politics and sectarian religion shall not be

debated by club members.

TO ENCOURAGE service-minded

people to serve their community without

personal financial reward, and to

encourage efficiency and promote high

ethical standards in commerce, industry,

professions, public works and private

endeavours.

TO SHOW my faith in the worthiness of my

vocation by industrious application to the

end that I may merit a reputation for quality

of service.

TO SEEK success and to demand all fair

remuneration or profit as my just due, but to

accept no profit or success at the price of

my own self respect lost because of unfair

advantage taken or because of

questionable acts on my part.

TO REMEMBER that in building up my

business it is not necessary to tear down

another’s; to be loyal to my clients or

customers and true to myself.

WHENEVER a doubt arises as to the right

or ethics of my position or action towards

others, to resolve such doubt against

myself.

TO HOLD friendship as an end and not a

means. To hold that true friendship exists

not on account of the service performed by

one to another, but that true friendship

demands nothing but accepts service in the

spirit in which it is given.

ALWAYS to bear in mind my obligations as

a citizen to my nation, my state and my

community, and to give to them my

unswerving loyalty in word, act and deed.

To give them freely of my time, labour and

means.

TO AID others by giving my sympathy to

those in distress, my aid to the weak, and

my substance to the needy.

TO BE CAREFUL with my criticism and

liberal with my praise; to build up and not

destroy.
