Assembly Points
- An outside place to gather and assess
- The intersection where Margaret meets Monteith.• Central location
• Not a lot of overhead electrical wires or trees
• Please watch for fallen electrical wires
Emergency SheltersAn inside place to gather and assess. And maybe hunker
down. Schure Electronics has offered shop space.
Evacuation Routes
Could be used to depart the island or provide a gateway for receiving emergency supplies
Air Evacuation. A helicopter site has been identified in Duck Creek Park.
Marine Evacuation Routes.
• Two are identified at the end of Monteith Road.
• Possible evacuation could be by Vesuvius ferry.
AssetsWe have considerable Assets:
Threats: medical emergency, compromised structures, fallen trees and electrical wires.
• Skills: Nurses (variety including Paediatric), Doctors, Builders, Engineers, Electricians, Pharmacists
• Equipment: chain saws, generators, tools
Threats: loss of communication infrastructure (cell towers down, Shaw down, Telus down)
• Communications (a basket of options)– Telus land lines, Shaw phone, cell phone– Radios (Public AM, FM; Marine, FRS/GMRS, HAM)

What can you do ?
Recommended– Keep us informed of changes (contact info, absence)
– Self assessment and planning:
• Plan and practice an escape route
– Clear path/clutter. Old bike helmet.
• Look for other dangers in home
• Prepare a “grab and go bag” (72 hours to 1 week) (**)
• POD awareness. Know your Neighbourhood Leader
• Battery or wind-up radio
• Cell phone – if an event occurs, plug it in
• Telus Land line – plug it in (**)
