Weekly Newsletter Term 4 Week 1; 10 October, 2016
The Principal’s Message Dear Parents and Caregivers , Tena koutou
nga whanau me nga tamariki Welcome to Term 4 - it only seems like a short time ago I was welcoming everyone back to the start of the School year! An exciting announcement to start with… we have been able to maintain our Staffing for 2017 which means we will continue to have three classrooms running. Our big literacy focus this Term is around persuasion. This is a fun topic as persuasive language takes many forms, oral, written and visual. In maths we will be doing some work around financial literacy during the Term which is always fun. Our Interschool Athletics event is in Week 6 so we will be busy learning the techniques needed for that. We have a busy first two weeks with our Noho this week, followed by the Ngati Whai Festival next week. (See the photo below from our 2015 performers.
This years performance will be at the AW Parsons Stadium in Wai-pukurau. We are scheduled to go on at 12:45, however this time may be brought forward or dropped back depending on other Schools. We will video the show and upload it to the website for the whanau that can’t make the live action In Week 4 we perform our production, “The Lizard of Auzz.” Emma is back on deck and ready to go. Lock in the date!
Thumbs Up To Mark Clarke who
donated $100 to the School as part of the “School of Survival” holiday programme.
Thriving Students Congratulations to this weeks children… (Week 9 last Term) Jessica for excellence in reading and always completing and presenting her work to the best of her ability (Mrs Golden) Jayden for wonder-ful reading comprehension strategies (Mrs Gilmour) Jacob Strong for consistent hard work in Reading (Mrs Field)
Happy birthday to Marshall who celebrated his birthday a few days ago and Molly who is yet another TEEN! Elsthorpe School Hats are now compulsory to be worn every day. Contact the Office to place an order if needed.

Make it Punny
At the end of last Term, the Senior Writing Class ended their poetry unit around using some creative vegetable humour to create some battle field moments between some old foes. The language and creativity boiled over, with classic dad jokes going down like brussell sprouts in a Sunday roast. Below are just some of the confrontations.
The Cultivated Chilli challenged the battalion of Brussel Sprouts to a war. The bland boiled Brussel Sprouts pacified the tragic Chillies, as they started to sweat they retreated to the hot plate. By Jono and Cove
Then mushroom said, “There’s a leak in the boat,” we should kale out of here then lettuce win.” By Molly and Jess The reinforce mints cleaned up the beetroot
into a red stained syrup as the peas shouted
from the cage “peas lettuce out.” By Nic and Jacob
Meanwhile the Onions are getting diced
and sliced and slapped on a plate! They
go to their last resort and unleash the
tear gas; the whole thing was enough to
make a grown-man cry. So the
opponents decide turnip up a notch they
blasted the Onions into rings and shove
them in the weep crier! By Sam and George
A barricade of Brussel Sprouts munch
onto the field, an outbreak of Onions
choose to start a fight. “We’ll peel you
up!” the Brussels screamed. Then the
Onions made them cry. “Retreat,” the
tearful Brussels cried. “We’ll be back and
ready to fry again.” By Emma and Libby
2015 School Trophies Could these all please be returned
(preferably cleaned) to School ASAP so they
can be on display this Term.
Math-a-thon Resources More equipment and games have arrived as a result of the money raised from last Terms Math-a-thon. This time for the Senior and Middle Maths classrooms. Thanks again to all those who supported this.
Technology Room Upgrade The new technology block looks great and is close to being completed. Huge thanks to Vanessa who has overseen this project and the Joan Fernie Trust for providing the funds. Master Chef kicks off this Term and this new space will be well used.
