29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

As you enter Church this weekend hopefully you can see the progress we’ve made already as it begins to receive a fresh makeover on the outside! We’ve contracted Good Deeds Painting Company to repaint the exterior trim, facade, sides and parish offices! Such a fitting name for a the company we contracted, “Good Deeds”! Unfortunately, unlike the name suggests it’s not free! But, thanks to your amazing generosity from last year’s record breaking Annual Collection we were able to follow through on this well needed project.

When I became the boss of the URI Catholic center over 10 years ago, someone who I didn’t even know walked into my office the first month I was there with a $1,000 check earmarked for a new outdoor sign advertising the Center. The old sign that sat outside the center had fallen into complete disrepair. His donation was completed unsolicited but deeply appreciated. I will never forget the donor when he said “Father, how you advertise yourself on the outside is an indication of the quality of how you feel about what goes on in the inside of the building!”I think the same applies here too. We are so proud of what goes on inside of our church that we want to take pride in what it looks like to others on the outside!

This year’s Annual Collection will take place November 10th and 11th, Veteran’s day weekend! You are more than welcome to donate that weekend using the envelope provided for you in your budgets. Also, you should be receiving in the mail a letter I sent this week about the Collection enclosed with another envelope you might use and send in to the parish offices even before the collection weekend. I am asking for a donation of $200 per family. Last year we raised a record breaking $45,000! I set the goal for this year’s collection again for $40,000 knowing that through your amazing generosity we will reach it again!

One of the many great characteristics of our community that I have noticed these past four years during the Diocese’s Catholic Charity Appeal is that our parish consistently has the most numbers of people donating to it, out of any parish in the state. We are close to 500 donors every year! It shows that we have a vibrant and active church that is grateful for how God has blessed us and we want to share those blessings with others. I know the same generosity will be true again for this year’s annual collection! Thank you in advance!

-Fr. Matt

Sunday ~ October 21, 2018

All parish families are invited to join us this coming Friday, October 26th for our Annual Trick or Trunk. This is a special family event that allows children to Trick or Treat in a safe environment. The event begins at 5:45pm and concludes around 6:45pm. Please come in costume to be festive! For safety reasons we ask that our older middle school children do not wear a mask. Poppy’s Kettle Corn & Waffle Truck will be available in the parking lot for anyone wishing to purchase food items during the event. Following Trick or Trunk our Student Council is hosting a dance for pupils’ Grades 5-8 in the parish hall from 7:00pm-9:00pm. Parishioners’ children/grandchildren Grades 5-8 are of course welcome to also attend the dance, but we will need parents to walk them inside to complete a permission slip form and pay the $5.00 admission fee.

As both the school and parish are one St. Rose community, I want to thank parishioners for your anticipated support as many of you traditionally purchase Eight Month Club memberships in the Fall. Memberships will be sold after all Masses the weekend of November 3rd which is almost upon us. The Eight Month Club allows for eligibility in bi-weekly drawings, as well as grand prizes that we draw at the luncheon. This year’s gathering is taking place again at Valley Country Club in April.

I would like to invite parishioners to our Open House on Thursday, November 8th from 4:00pm-6:00pm. This is a great opportunity for all of you to tour the school that you so generously support. If you care to consider giving your child(ren) or grandchild(ren) the gift of a Catholic education, we will have information in print to be distributed. Official registration for the next school year takes place in January, but this is a nice time to explore and learn more about what St. Rose of Lima School has to offer. We have Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 programs, as well as a full-day Kindergarten. Our elementary and middle school offer pupils an academically challenging curriculum in a spiritual environment. We have an Honors Program in the middle school. In addition Father Matt teaches Latin to all Grade Eight pupils. Morning and afternoon extended care is available daily, along with numerous co-curricular programs including: Chorus, Band, Robotics, Athletics, Tumblebus, Theatre, Mad Science, Scouts, Kindness Club, and much more. Please join us for this special event on November 8th. If you are unable to attend or have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me 739-6937 or send me an email [email protected]

I look forward to seeing many families at Trick or Trunk and the Open House!

I hope you are all enjoying a nice family weekend and had a chance to stop by our Fall Festival.

Classes will resume again next Sunday and we will start to prepare for our Christmas performance that will take place during our normal class time on December 16th. The students will be practicing during class time for the Christmas program and it will be performed for parents and families.

We are looking for some of our younger Faith Formation students that will be attending All Saints Day Mass on November 1st at 7pm to volunteer to be Saints. If your child is interested they will dress as a Saint and read a brief description of who they are. Costumes will be provided. If you are interested please see Mrs. Rachael Czepyha.

Grades 6-10 please remember to refer to your class schedule as there are times beside your monthly Sunday class time that you are required to attend. The next non -Sunday event that is required is Confession on November 26th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. If you have any questions about what is required please see Mrs. Czepyha.
