In addition to a Sunday School student reading the Epistle, the Parish Council of St. Sophia Cathedral invites middle and high school students to volunteer in the Narthex during Divine Liturgy. Besides helping out with the candles and ushering, you may also assist in passing the baskets to the parishioners to collect their monetary donations. You'll be paired with a seasoned Parish Council member to train you. If you'd like to volunteer in the Narthex and/or pass the baskets, please sign up by contacting [email protected]. Send your name, phone number, age and what day you'd like to volunteer. Please arrive at church at 9:45 a.m. so you may be trained. Upcoming dates: December 7.

FOOD BOX PROJECT
FOR THE EISNER SCHOOL
On Sunday, November 30th after church, we - the community and Philoptohos - will be making food boxes for some 20 families at the Eisner School on 15th Street. These families are unable to purchase food for Christmas dinner and are in desperate circumstances.
If you would like to join in this project, Philoptohos will be bringing boxes to fill up with food. We’re also bringing some gift wrap and tape and we’d love to have you bring along some inexpensive wrap or bows to decorate your box with. You will be able to fill a box and decorate it yourselves. Maybe your children would like to help decorate the box!
Items that we suggest to donate and put into the box are: (just ideas, you decide)
1. Canned fruit (peaches, applesauce, pears)
2. Canned vegetables (green beans, corn, carrots, yams
3. Rice or spaghetti, canned pastas like Chef Boyardee
4. Granulated sugar or brown sugar
5. Evaporated milk
6. Canned meat or tuna, canned ham, etc.
7. Cereal
8. Anything else you’d like - maybe a box of Christmas cookies
9. Packaged single servings of ‘milk’ cartons (no refrigeration needed)
Be creative - you choose whatever you’d like to put in the box!
We know this is short notice but after speaking with the principal of the school, we know there are a number of families that do not have the resources to purchase food for the holidays. Most of the parents are unemployed or are single parent families.
Please join us right after church upstairs in the general assembly meeting room - again, that is Sunday, November 30!
Thank you!
