Liturgical Notes

May is a month devoted to Mary so with the help of parishioners we will make a special effort to offer the rosary before all the Masses. The rosary is a prayer that serves as compendium of the gospel which combines vocal prayer and mental prayer (meditation). This common Catholic devotion is highly recom-mended throughout its long history and has served many people well.

Angelus (The Angel of the Lord)

(throughout the year except Easter time)

V. The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary, R. And she conceived of the Holy Spir it. Hail Mary...

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord, R. Be it done unto me according to Thy word. Hail Mary...

V. And the Word was made flesh, R. And dwelt among us. Hail Mary...

V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, R. That we may be made wor thy of the promises of Chr ist.

Let us pray. Pour for th, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Your Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His passion and cross be brought to the glory of resurrection, through the same Christ our Lord.

R. Amen..

 QUESTION ? ? QUESTION ? ? QUESTION

Parishioners are encouraged to ask questions about Mass, readings and homilies and parish life.

Why is there a dumpster at St. Rose? Because in addition to the construction project to make the basement useable, last summer we began to empty the basement underneath the church of decades of items that were not ever brought to the dump like old oil barrels, water heater, paint cans, broken furniture, old hymnals, paper and a variety of stuff. We will continue to declutter and store items that may be of use.

WELCOMING THE REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANTWe must first ask ourselves if we see the face of Christ in the newcomer. Are we welcoming to the stranger? We all are called to pray about our own fears and failings and ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in overcoming these fears. There are ways, both big and small, that Catholics can help welcome the stranger, starting in our own parishes. #ShareJourney is an international initiative on behalf of migrants and refugees inspired by Pope Francis to encourage Catholics to love their neighbors.

Androscoggin River Farm Stand is a new outreach of the par ishes of St. Joseph, Farmington and Rose of Lima, Jay. The Farm Stand addresses one aspect of Christ’s call to feed the hungry by supporting local farmers in the community who labor daily to feed us all. Recognizing that a Catholic parish forms a natural community, Androscoggin River Farm Stand will be organized at St. Joseph Parish and offer products from local family farms to the general public through an online storefront. Once the orders are aggregated they are delivered once per week to the homes of those who place an order online. Proceeds from the weekly delivery will contribute to the Parish Social Ministry budget of the parishes. If perishable produce remains then it is donated to one of the local food pantries. Every aspect of the Farm Stand builds up local community. The project supports parish life as well as connecting local people to local farms; helps provide food to our neighbors who are hungry and even potentially provides parttime jobs within the community. The parishes of St. Joseph and St. Rose are launching the inaugural delivery in early August and will continue through September as a test run for the initiative. We are now taking signups and will continue through September. By signing up now there is no future obli-gation nor charge whatsoever. By signing up now you are simply indicating interest to learn more and to welcome a weekly email of seasonal local produce. Each week you order what you want and nothing more. Although the Farm Stand supports local farms it is not a traditional Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model, as does not require any level of upfront or seasonal obligation from customers. Beginning in August, customers are emailed once per week when the store is ready at which time you will have the option to order any quantity of items you choose from the list of produce and prod-ucts. Simply by shifting even a percentage of your food budget to Androscoggin River Farm Stand you will be supporting the mis-sion of Parish Social Ministry as well as the local food movement. Signups are welcome in the communities of Farmington, Wilton, Jay, Livermore, Turner, and LewistonAuburn.

For more information and to sign up visit www.androscogginriverfarmstand.com

Catholic Leadership Instute UpdateBishop Deeley has commi4ed every parish in Maine to work with the Catholic Leadership Ins6tute in the course of five years. We

have completed 2/3 of the consulta6on with a CLI consultant. The goal is to present the parish and Bishop Deeley a pastoral plan

focusing on the next three years. This effort is intended as a follow up to the parish consolida6on process guided by a local working

document en6tled Telling Anew the Story of Jesus, which a4empted to offer some ra6onale for the greater coopera6on and

consolida6on of parish life da6ng back ten years. So far we have convened some people from each parish for two day long

mee6ngs and will meet again August 25th

. By means of various inputs we have been reflec6ng on the nature and mission of the

Church as well as the goals of diocese and parishes. We have begun to dra a basic statement of purpose and a vision that express-

es where we may want to progress in the course of three years following a few priori6es and related goals and outcomes. One of

the sources of input was the Disciple Maker Index (DMI) which was filled out by 121 people at St. Rose and 88 people at St.

Joseph. We received the results recently and are preparing to share the results.
