~FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK~ Dear Friends,
Christ is Risen!
I want to thank all who made our celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Dedication of our Church Building
such a beautiful event. All who baked cookies and those who prepared the reception, thank you! All who took part in
the celebration of Mass; the choir, deacons, liturgical ministers and representation for the different groups who were
among the “firsts” in the new church, thank you! Most of all, we thank God for blessing us and strengthening our faith
these past 50 years and pray that he continues to guide, protect and bless us throughout our life journey.
A special thank you to John Battisti who handcrafted the beautiful Ambry for our sacred oils used in celebrating
the sacraments. He has donated the Ambry in memory of Fred Battisti Sr., Michael Ferrett Sr., and Henry “Hank”
Caruso.
This week we honor our High School Graduates from Hubbard, Ursuline, and Girard High Schools. We can only
pray and wish the very best for these fine young men and women. May they not only be successful on their life’s jour-
ney, but may they always remain close to the Lord and their church throughout their life.
We also have 3 children graduating from St. Rose Elementary School: Cade Ross, Gina Marsco and Elizabeth
Chrobak. We pray that God will continue to bless them especially as they enter into High School. A special thank you
to Msgr. John Zuraw and Linda Borton for opening up St. Rose School and accepting our children who transferred
from St. Patrick. So many of the children and parents continue to be excited and thankful for the new experience.
As you may have read in the Catholic Exponent, Fr. Tim O’Neill will be celebrating his 50th Anniversary of the
priesthood. I spoke with Fr. Tim and his family and we will honor him, his priesthood and ministry here at St. Patrick’s
with Holy Mass and a reception. The date is June 25, 2017. Fr. Tim will concelebrate Mass with me at our 11:00 a.m.
Mass and the reception will follow in the Church Hall. More information will follow.
At the 50th Anniversary Mass, Bishop Murry referred to the priest who walked from Youngstown to Hubbard to
celebrate mass. Here it is for you to decide, right from the history of St. Patrick’s:
As Father Eugene O’Callaghan said Mass in the unplastered and unfinished building, his mind must have gone
back to the years between 1863 and 1867, when he had walked from Youngstown, where he served at St. Columba’s, to
say Mass in the homes of Hubbard Catholics and later, at a small school house on North Main Street. The small con-
gregation of twenty-two families and especially Michael Pigott, who was instrumental in getting Father O’Callaghan
to come to Hubbard, must have felt the swell of pride and accomplishment in the reality of the church, even though the
altar they were using was fashioned from a carpenter’s bench, scantling and fence boards served as kneelers, and win-
dow sills were the temporary seats in the church.
Walk or horse, we will never know, but we do know that with God all things are possible.
Saturday, June 24, 2017, we will celebrate a Polka Mass at the 4:00 p.m. Mass followed by a Festival preview bar-
becued half chicken dinner. The dinner includes a 1/2 chicken, buttered parsley potatoes, baked beans, salad, bread and
butter, and a drink. Tickets for the dinner are $10 each and will be available in advance at the Parish House or after
each Mass.
Next weekend we will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord. The Ascension is not celebrated on Thurs-
day but on Sunday, May 28.
If you haven’t made a pledge or donation to the Annual Bishop’s Appeal, we are counting on you to help us meet
our goal. We are so close!
Have a blessed week,
Fr. Mike

The Miracle of God’s Love Once more the winter chill is gone,
The robin’s song awakes the dawn,
The daisy bed, the apple bough
Burst forth in lovely blossoms now,
And lilac-scented breezes bring
The warm, sweet fragrances of spring.
Once more within our hearts is born
The joy of that first Easter morn.
Once more we are reminded of the miracle of God’s great love.

“For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be God’s will, than
for doing evil.” 1 PETER 3:17
The old line says “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your
plans.” Many of us are diligent in our planning, making sure things
are progressing smoothly, then disaster strikes, we don’t get the result
that was intended. An unforeseen problem arises. Many times we may
respond negatively. Why me? I did everything right! Here’s the
thing– God has a different and better plan in store for you.

For a growing conviction among our young
people that they are loved by our Heavenly
Father and that Jesus will manifest Himself
to them through their vocations, we pray to
the Lord.
Blessing for Graduates
Father, every journey has its milestones.
These young people have been on a long journey
and they have just reached a big milestone.
School has played a major role in the kind of adults
these young people are becoming.
They are ready to move forward…
So God, we release these, your servants, into the world.
We ask that you intentionally help them to find their calling
and become the servants you intended them to be.
May God bless you always, Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
