Ordained in 2012 by Cardinal Kevin J. Farrell for the Diocese of Dallas, Fr. Edwin Leonard served his first two years of priesthood as the Parochial Vicar at St. Rita Catholic Church, in July 2014 he was assigned as the Director of Vocations. The past 7 years and under Fr. Leonard’s direction the diocese has accepted over 80 new seminarians. In addition to Vocation work he was appointed in 2018 as Chaplain of Bishop Lynch Catholic High School. Fr. Leonard has also served as interim Pastor for St. Mary Catholic Church in Sherman and most recently for St. William in Greenville. He also currently serves as Vice-President of the Executive Board for the National Conference of Diocesan Vocation Directors.

His work with the National Evangelization Team (NET) from 2003-2005 helped develop his ability to promote the Gospel with devotion. Fr. Leonard is a graduate of Franciscan University. He uses his strong enthusiasm for CrossFit, movies, sporting events and

music festivals to connect with the youth and young adults of the diocese. Fr. Edwin “enjoys sharing his love for the Gospel with the youth and teaching the next great generation of saints.

Join us in welcoming Father Edwin on this new assignment as Interim Pastoral Administrator for Saint Michael the Archangel. We pray to our Lord and hope his your stay is a pleasant one and that it brings many fruits to his spiritual and apostolic life, as well as blessings to our Saint Michael Commu-nity.

Ordenado en el 2012 por el Cardenal Kevin J. Farrell para la Diócesis de Dallas, el P. Edwin Leonard sirvió durante sus primeros dos años de sacerdocio como Vicario Parroquial en la Iglesia Católica Santa Rita, en julio de 2014 fue asignado como Director de Vocaciones. Los últimos 7 años y bajo la dirección del Padre Leonard la diócesis ha aceptado a más de 80 nuevos seminaristas. Además del trabajo vocacional, fue nombrado en 2018 Capellán de Bishop Lynch Catholic High School. Padre Leonard también se ha desempeñado como pastor interino de la iglesia católica St. Mary en Sherman y, más recientemente, de St. William en Greenville. Actualmente también se desempeña como Vicepresidente de la Junta Ejecutiva de la Conferencia Nacional de Directores Vocacionales Diocesanos.

Su trabajo con el Equipo Nacional de Evangelización (NET) del 2003 al 2005 ayudó a desarrollar su capacidad para promover el Evangelio con devoción. P. Leonard es un graduado de la Universidad Franciscana. Utiliza su gran entusiasmo por CrossFit, películas, eventos deportivos y festivales de música para conectarse con los jóvenes y adultos jóvenes de la diócesis. FORGIVENESS Nearly ten years before, a son and father had parted ways

when the business they shared went bankrupt. The son blamed

the father. They did not speak to each other again.

Then the father became seriously ill. The mother called the

son and told him he had better come soon. The son walked

sheepishly into the hospital room. The father motioned his son

to him and whispered: “Did you ever think you could do anything

that would keep me from loving you?”

Resentment and anger are foul things, the first reading from

Sirach tells us. Remember the last things. Stop hating. Live by

the commandments. As St. Paul writes to the Romans, we are

to live for the Lord and die for the Lord.

Jesus’ parable in today’s Gospel reminds us of God’s

compassion. The immense sin of humanity has been forgiven

and stricken from the record. We are to forgive others in the

same way.

PERDÓN Unos diez años antes, un padre e hijo se distanciaron cuan-

do el negocio en el que eran socios se fue a bancarrota. El hijo

culpó al padre. No se hablaron más.

Entonces el padre se puso gravemente enfermo. La madre

llamó al hijo y le dijo que viniera a verlo pronto. El hijo entró con

vergüenza a su habitación en el hospital. El padre hizo un gesto

para que se acercara y susurró: “¿Acaso pensaste que podrías

hacer algo que me hiciera dejar de amarte?”

El rencor y la cólera son abominables, nos dice la primera

lectura de Sirácide. Piensa en tu fin. Deja de odiar. Vive

conforme a los mandamientos. Como escribe san Pablo en

Romanos, para el Señor vivimos y para el Señor morimos.

Sin embargo, la parábola de Jesús en el Evangelio de hoy

nos recuerda la compasión de Dios. El inmenso pecado de la

humanidad ha sido perdonado y borrado del libro. Tenemos que

perdonar a otros de igual manera.

From the time of our Baptism, God has forgiven us, releasing us from an intracta-ble debt: original sin. But that is the first time. Then, with boundless mercy, he forgives us all our faults as soon as we show even the least sign of repentance. This is how God is: merciful. When we are tempted to close our heart to those who have offended us and tell us they are sorry, let us remember our Heavenly Father’s words to the wicked servant: “I forgave you all that debt because you besought me; and should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?” (vv. 32-33). Anyone who has experienced the joy, peace and inner freedom which come from being forgiven should open him or herself up to the possibility of forgiving in turn. Jesus wished to introduce the teach-ing of this parable into the Our Father. He linked the forgiveness which we ask from God with the forgiveness that we should accord our brothers and sisters: “And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors” (Mt 6:12). God’s forgiveness is the symbol of his “overflowing” love for each of us. It is the love that leaves us free to distance ourselves, like the prodigal son, but which awaits our return every day. It is the resourceful love of the shepherd for the lost sheep. It is the tenderness which welcomes each sinner who knocks at his door. The Heavenly Father — our Father — is filled, is full of love and he wants to offer it to us, but he cannot do so if we close our heart to love towards others. May the Virgin Mary help us to become ever more aware of the gratui-tousness and the greatness of the forgiveness received from God, to be-come merciful like him, Good Father, slow to anger and great in love.

Desde nuestro bautismo Dios nos ha perdonado, perdonándonos una deuda insoluta: el pecado original. Pero, aquella es la primera vez. Después, con una misericordia sin límites, Él nos perdona todos los pecados en cuanto mostramos incluso solo una pequeña señal de arrepentimiento. Dios es así: misericor-dioso. Cuando estamos tentados de cerrar nuestro corazón a quien nos ha ofendido y nos pide perdón, recordemos las palabras del Padre celestial al siervo despiadado: «siervo malvado, yo te perdoné a ti toda aquella deuda porque me lo suplicaste. ¿No deberías tú también compadecerte de tu compañe-ro, del mismo modo que yo me compa-decí de ti?» (vv. 32-33). Cualquiera que haya experimentado la alegría, la paz y la libertad interior que viene al ser perdonado puede abrirse a la posibilidad de perdonar a su vez. En la oración del Padre Nuestro Jesús ha querido alojar la misma enseñanza de esta parábola. Ha puesto en relación directa el perdón que pedimos a Dios con el perdón que debemos conceder a nuestros hermanos: «y perdónanos nuestras deudas, así como nosotros hemos perdonado a nuestros deudo-res» (Mateo 6, 12). El perdón de Dios es la seña de su desbordante amor por cada uno de nosotros; es el amor que nos deja libres de alejarnos, como el hijo pródigo, pero que espera cada día nuestro retorno; es el amor audaz del pastor por la oveja perdida; es la ternura que acoge a cada pecador que llama a su puerta. El Padre celestial —nuestro Padre— está lleno, está lleno de amor que quiere ofrecernos, pero no puede hacerlo si cerramos nuestro corazón al amor por los otros. La Virgen María nos ayuda a ser cada vez más conscientes de la gratuidad y de la grandeza del perdón recibido de Dios, para convertirnos en misericordiosos como Él, Padre bueno, pausado en la ira y grande en el amor.

MINISTRIES - MINISTERIOS

At the Council #9903 officers July Zoom meeting, Fred Fink, a passionate Knight and devoted church leader was sworn in as our new Grand Knight. A big thank you to our outgoing Grand Knight, Randy Bolz for his exceptional leadership and commitment to the council over the past 2 years and who will continue to serve as a Trustee. El programa de RICA, Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos, es el proceso por el cual hombres y mujeres no bautizadas entran a ser miembros de la Iglesia Católica. Este proceso incluye diferentes etapas, marcadas por estudio, oración, y ritos en la Misa Dominical. Los participantes en el programa de RICA son conocidos como catecúmenos. Pasarán por un proceso de conversión mientras estudian los Evangelios, profesan su fe en Jesucristo y la Iglesia Católica, y reciben los Sacramentos de Bautismo, Confirmación, y la Santa Eucaristía. El proceso de RICA sigue la practica antigua de la Iglesia y fue redescubierta por el Concilio Vaticano Segundo como la manera normal de preparar adultos para el Bautis-mo. Los tres sacramentos de Iniciación Cristiana: Bautismo, Confirmación, y Eucaristía- nos acercan a nosotros fieles de Cristo, a conocer su grandeza y nos permite llevar acabo la misión de todo el pueblo santo de Dios en la iglesia y en el mundo entero. Si una persona ha sido bautizada en otra tradición cristiana, este proceso de iniciación te prepara para entrar en comunión con la Iglesia Católica celebrando los sacramentos de Confirmación y Eucaristía.

starting soon ! The RCIA, which stands for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, is a process through which non-baptized men and women enter the Catholic Church. It includes several stages marked by study, prayer and rites at Mass. Participants in the RCIA are known as catechu-mens. They undergo a process of conversion as they study the Gospel, profess faith in Jesus and the Catholic Church, and receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. The RCIA process follows the ancient practice of the church and was restored by the Second Vatican Council as the normal way adults prepare for baptism. The three sacraments of Christian initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist - closely combine to bring us, the faithful of Christ, to his full stature and to enable us to carry out the mission of the entire people of God in the Church and in the world. If a person has been baptized in another Christian tradition, the initiation process prepares you to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church by cele-brating the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist or Holy Communion.

We are now sharing with you the contributions received (see below) in June and July 2020. We are still under our normal monthly collection amount and way below our break-even point. We are continuing to review and reduce expenses anywhere it is possible. We are forever grateful to those that have resumed their collections as well as to those that are keeping us in their prayers. We reiterate that we Trust that our Lord leads our way, we are confident that together as a Parish, we will move forward and accomplish whatever He has planned for us.
