ST. MARK PARISH THE MOST HOLY BODY & BLOOD OF CHRIST
The Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus Christ is the most precious gift we have
ever received and that for which we are eternally grateful. 13 years ago on this Feast
Day, I was graced by God to celebrate my first Holy Mass as His priest.
Our loving God could not be more vulnerable than when He comes to us under the
appearance of bread and wine - true food and true drink that nourish us for eternal life. The
Eucharist is the daily embodiment of the popular and perhaps most represented scripture verse
from the bible; John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that all who
believe in him might not perish but may have eternal life.” The Eucharist IS Jesus and not a
symbolic representation of Jesus. We are not simply remembering something that Jesus did at the
Last Supper.
With the Eucharist, the well known scripture passage of John 3:16 is brought to reality. God’s
love is made present to us in the person of Jesus Christ who is offering Himself for us and for our
salvation. The one and eternal sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross is made present to us in an
un-bloody manner in the Eucharist. It is the Eucharist that makes us able to fulfill the requirement
of John 3:16....“that all who believe in Him might not perish but might have eternal life.” In other
words, so all who believe in the Eucharist, might not perish but might have eternal life! The
Eucharist is critical for eternal life. Jesus confirms this himself in the Gospel for today. “Amen,
amen I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you do not have
life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him
on the last day.”
It is the Eucharist that brings us to eternal life, because through the Eucharist, we are brought into
communion with Jesus. The bread of life discourse in John 6, particularly the passage from
today’s Gospel, reveals the way in which our belief in Jesus leads us to eternal life. The Eucharist
is our opportunity to enter into the love of God, through a personal encounter, it is a communion
that leads to salvation. ~ Fr. Dallas

Dr. Peter Kreeft offers simple but profound
advice and practical steps for developing a
prayer life based on the time-tested wisdom
of the saints and great spiritual writers, espe-
cially the principles found in Brother Law-
rence’s classic The Practice of the Presence
of God.
In short, straight-forward, and unsentimental chapters,
Kreeft covers all the key areas for understanding and de-
veloping that intimate form of communication with our
Creator that we call prayer. He covers such areas as the
necessity of prayer, various motives and methods, steps,
patience, suffering, sin, faith, and grace.

VOCATION CORNER
World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests
The World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests takes place every year on the Solemnity of the Most
Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is Friday, June 19 this year. Please take time this week to pray for Father Dallas
and to thank him for his service to God and our parish. Below is a beautiful prayer for priests by Pope Emeritus
Benedict XVI.
Pope Benedict XVI's Prayer for Priests
Lord Jesus Christ, eternal High Priest,
You offered yourself to the Father on the altar of the Cross
and through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit
gave Your priestly people a share in Your redeeming sacrifice.
Hear our prayer for the sanctification of our priests.
Grant that all who are ordained to the ministerial priesthood
may be ever more conformed to You, the Divine Master.
May they preach the Gospel with pure heart and clear conscience.
Let them be shepherds according to Your own Heart,
single-minded in service to You and to the Church
and shining examples of a holy, simple and joyful life.
Through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Your Mother and ours,
draw all priests and the flocks entrusted to their care
to the fullness of eternal life where you live and reign
with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
