We are fast approaching the end of another school year. God has blessed us with students who want to learn and grow in their faith and dedicated teachers who have taught and guided them. We do believe that every one of our students has a special gift which is brought to our community. MRS. PAT FROST GRADE 4 TEACHER Since the beginning of January, Mr. and Mrs. Frost have been battling cancer. We continue to pray for them daily, asking God to give them healing and peace. Their faith and trust in God through this difficult time has been a powerful witness to all of us. At the end of this school year Mrs. Frost has decided to retire after a wonderful teaching career at St. Jude for 33 ½ years. Thank you, Mrs. Frost, for your tremendous love and compassion for the students. We will always remember you as a prayerful, caring and wise woman. God bless you!
GUYS CLUB IS A SUCCESS! This semester, we offered a Guys Club open to all 4th grade boys. We met weekly at lunch time for 7 weeks working on skill building and friendship building activities. The group was based on the BAM! Boys Advocacy and Mentoring group book. Each meeting involved a talking/sharing activity and a physical activity, such as walking on (paper) alligator heads, crossing an electric fence (made from t-ball tees and jump rope), and “Willow in the Wind” which is a very safe version of a trust fall activity. The boys loved the activities and showed some improvement in their interactions with others in the club. Our final meeting involved a “Treasure Hunt” type of activity that had verbal and physical activities and ended with a pizza party.
To make the Guys Club more male oriented, I had male co-leaders each week. These male co-leaders were Fr. Tom, Kevin Jefferson (Coach J), Bob Panza, and John Offerle. They were a great help and the boys enjoyed hearing their stories.
I am hoping to offer the group again next year to a new group of boys. All of the boys in this year’s Guys Club were awesome and I really enjoyed working with them!

received this honor. These students were selected by their teachers for their outstanding scholarship, leadership, and Christian example. The awards were presented at a breakfast ceremony. We congratulate these students on their accomplishments and wish them continued success in their future endeavors in high school. SCHOOL BOARD I thank the School Board members for their generosity this past year in assisting Fr. Tom, and me. The Board is consultative to both of us. In order to provide the best possible Catholic education for your children, we encourage you to share your ideas with any School Board member, Fr. Tom or me. We can then incorporate your ideas in our work on School Board. Agenda planning takes place two weeks prior to the Board meeting. The following will serve on the 2013-2014 School Board: Fr. Tom, Sr. Kathleen, Kurt Beuchel, Beth Shanebrook, Steve Yaggy, Rob Henry, Maria Odle, Susan Schenkel, Bob Bergeron and Michelle Kraus. REMINDERS FROM THE PARISH BUSINESS OFFICE: • All inquiries/concerns regarding tuition accounts and/or
FACTS need to be directed to the Parish Business Office, 484-6609, as the school office will be closed for the summer. This includes any payments made or paperwork returned.
• Tuition Reminder: Tuition for the 2012-2013 school year
must be paid in full as a requirement for enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year. Tuition packets for the 13-14 school year have been sent to all families. Returning families using FACTS Tuition Management have been sent their new agreements and must notify the Business Office if there are any changes to that agreement. New families not paying in full by July 12th must sign up with FACTS for a payment plan by July 12th. Instructions for signing up with FACTS were included in the packet sent in May. If you have any questions please call the Business Office.
SUMMER WORKBOOKS This summer, the faculty and administration would like to see students doing some work on a regular basis to help them maintain their basic skills. United Arts and Education has a number of workbooks from which to choose. Parents may want to choose a workbook that reviews math and language arts, or they may choose one of the subjects depending on the need of their child. The workbook “Summer Bridges Activities” is one recommendation. In the fall the teachers will collect workbooks and students who have completed them will be given a dress down day and pizza party. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Buckel at school.
A NOTE FROM THE ADORATION CHAPEL This summer, if you are looking for a refreshing place to rest your weary soul, remember the Adoration Chapel. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Stop in for prayer or just some quiet time. Leave your burdens behind and enjoy the summer!

Math Club is open to all students entering Grades 6-8. We will meet next year each Monday after school until 4:00 PM. to prepare for the Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition and the American Mathematics Competition (AMC-8). Please see www.stjudefw.org/mathclub for more details (including sample problems) or contact the coaches, Mrs. Bond or Mr. LaMaster. Summer Opportunity: Mr. Tormoehlen (Mr. T), the coach of last year’s national MATHCOUNTS champion, is offering an online math training program for strong math students entering Grades 4-8 who are looking to improve their math and problem solving skills. USED UNIFORM SALE! The used uniform sale is underway in the Alumni Hall and will conclude on Monday, June 3rd. If you have any approved dress code clothing you would like to sell or donate to the school please bring it to Alumni Hall. Please attach an envelope to each item you wish to sell with the following information: your name, price of item and your child’s room number.
HASA NEWS –ORIENTATION DAY HASA will again conduct a Back to School Orientation Day. This day will be used to gather information from preschool through 8th grade for the school, fill out volunteer time & talent sheets, view the safety video, sign up for lunch/recess duty, AND let you know who your child’s teacher will be for the 2013-14 school year. Orientation day will be held Tuesday, August 13th from 9:00am-12:00pm and 4:00pm – 7:00pm. This does not take the place of the Ice Cream Social. When you attend the Ice Cream Social the class list will be posted, so your child will find out who is in their class. We look forward to seeing everyone there. Please look for a mailing later this summer that will contain more information.

FIRST COMMUNION THANK YOU First Communion Day was a beautiful reception of Jesus for the first time for 72 children in our school and Religious Education Program on May 5. Thanks to the parents for training your children and your cooperation to make this day meaningful. Special thanks to Mrs. Mary Berghoff, Mrs. Kim Berghoff and Mrs. Joanne Kolkman for preparing the children for the important spiritual day. Their persistence work in helping these children understand the Eucharist is so worthwhile. SUMMER CHILDREN'S LITURGIES will be celebrated at 8:15 on the following Thursdays: June 6, 13, 20, July 11, 18, 25, August 1, 8. Children will be able to read petitions, place corporal, carry gifts or proclaim the Word. Contact Sue Sherburne at [email protected] to get involved in these ministries. Practice will be necessary for all readings or ministries new to children. RECORDS NEEDED To all parents who registered their children for Pre-school, Pre-K, or Kindergarten classes for the 2013-2014 school year please remember to give the office copies of your child’s baptismal certificate, birth certificate, and immunization records if you have not done so already. They are not considered fully registered unless we have all these records. Thank you!

APPLYING FOR FREE AND REDUCED LUNCHES PARENTS: Meal applications for 2013-2014 school year will be available on-line and in paper form beginning in mid-July. To apply on-line please go to www.schoollunchapp.com. Once there you will choose the state of Indiana and FWCS district. There will be a drop down of the schools. Just click on your school and follow the instructions. We encourage all households with computer access to apply on-line. For those who are not able to apply on-line the school will have paper applications available. Please fill it out in BLACK ink only. Make sure it is complete or it could delay processing. If you move your student from one private school to another or to FWCS schools please inform Nutrition Services of any changes. We keep a separate data base of our private students and it will need to be updated. If you have any questions regarding the Free & Reduced meal program, please call FWCS Nutrition Services at 467-2055. ST. JUDE YOUTH MINISTRY REMINDERS We welcome all students finishing the 5th grade and invite you to join us as our special guests for our junior high cookout and yard games with Fr Tom on Saturday June 2 at the rectory. Hot dogs and drinks provided. Girls bring a dessert or fruit to share. Guys bring chips or a side dish. We welcome all students finishing 8th grade to join us every Sunday evening for fun at God Club, 7:00-8:00 pm in the Parish Center. It’s a great way to stay connected with old friends and make some new ones. We have students from six different high schools attending God Club. LIBRARY BOOKS Please look around the house for any library books your child/ren may have misplaced. Mrs. Houser needs all books at this time so she can inventory the shelves. Report cards will be held until all fines are paid and books are returned.

There were no other designs submitted. Thank you Emily for using your artistic talents. UNIFORM MEASURING DAY Mark your calendar for measuring day, Tuesday, May 28th, 10-2p.m. in room C at the parish center. This will be the only scheduled time that St. Jude will have a representative from Schoolbelles at our location. Parents should stop in the office before picking up their students to be measured. SCRIP EXPRESS Volume 13 Issue 6 May, 2013 With the 2012-2013 school year quickly coming to an end, this will be our last “SCRIP EXPRESS” newsletter for the year. Even though the school year is quickly coming to a close, St. Jude SCRIP-FOR-TUITION will be here to help you save on your tuition all summer long! Next year, who knows, you could be one of the families who earn over $1,000 in tuition credit!
SCRIP Sales / End of the School Year The last KidMail SCRIP for this school year is Tuesday,
May 28th.
In an attempt to accommodate our KidMail SCRIP customers over the summer, we will be extending our Wednesday evening hours beginning June 4, 2013. Don’t forget (or don’t
panic!), we will continue our Thursday morning sales and the 2nd and 4th Sunday weekend sales over the summer. Please refer to our sales hour section on the reverse side of this newsletter. SCRIP order forms are available on line at Stjudefw.org. Please check periodically to make sure you have a current form and disregard old order forms, as they contribute to confusion and mistakes. We have had an overwhelming amount of notes/scrap paper being used to place SCRIP orders. Unfortunately, these pieces of paper of varying sizes can be easily lost. An order form is your validation of purchase for year-end questions about your account balance. In addition, we will be sending newsletters throughout the summer to SCRIP Program participants via Email. If you wish to receive SCRIP newsletters and updates, please jot down your email address in the comment section of the order form and we will add you to our list. Continue to visit our broker’s website at glscrip.com, for new and discontinued merchants, special percentage promotions and denomination changes.

• Do you have any 8th grade, high school, or college graduations this year? Pick up a Kroger reloadable card, Gordon’s Food Service (GFS), WalMart or Meijer SCRIP to purchase your party needs. Don’t forget the graduate’s cake!! Use Hall’s SCRIP to use at Hall’s Takes the Cake!
• Father’s Day isn’t too far away. Dad would love Lowe’s, Menards, or any of the restaurant SCRIP. Or order him something from our national broker’s list via Special Order/Prepay!
• Any day is a good day for ice cream…Atz’s, DQ, and Zesto are calling your name!!
SCRIP Reminders
• Any checks returned for insufficient funds are your responsibility. A $20.00 fee will be charged for each check returned. You will not be able to purchase SCRIP until the matter has been resolved.
• You may drop off your form with payment before Mass; simply give it to a SCRIP salesperson (when the orange SCRIP sign is posted) or put it in the Parish Office mail slot (located on the Pemberton Drive door). Your order will be available for express pick up after Mass.
• For large orders, PLEASE give us a “heads-up”!
• Besides earning tuition credit for you or another family, you may designate the St. Jude Tuition Assistance Fund to receive the profit from your SCRIP purchases. Just indicate your preference at the top of the order form.
