Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. This is an aspect of our faith that is so very central, but yet impossible to
understand completely. It reminds me of our universe, in that we can know some things about it, but it is so enormous and
incomprehensible that we can’t know everything about it. God is even more incomprehensible, because He is far greater than
the universe is, since He is its creator. But God has revealed Himself to us in small ways, especially through the person of the
Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in order that we can know Him and love Him. Many of the questions we have about God won’t be
answered until we get to Heaven, so for the time being we continue to grow in our prayer life and the life of love; and as we do,
God slowly reveals Himself to us as individuals. We don’t wait until we get to Heaven in order to get to know God, but we begin
now, and He will reveal aspects of Himself that we never knew existed. I was recently asked about the status of our church building becoming a basilica. Before I arrived two years ago, there had been
some investigative work done to assess what it would take in order for our church building to be recognized as a basilica. As
you probably know, there is an application process that includes questions about statistics of our building, its history, why it
should be considered a basilica, numbers of visitors, assurances that certain liturgies are celebrated regularly, the purchasing
of certain items that would reside in the church to denote it as a basilica and some other requirements. Once completed, the
paperwork is sent to Rome for approval. I was told that the process would have a cost of over $35,000.00. At that time, two
years ago, I stated that the paperwork and investigations could be worked on and readied, but we would not apply for the sta-
tus until our debt was paid off. I haven’t forgotten about the possibility, and once the debt is finished, I am happy to consider,
along with our Parish Pastoral Council, our possibilities as a basilica. Reminder that the new Mass schedule, beginning June 2nd, is Saturday, 4:30PM Sunday, 8:30AM, 11:00AM
and 5:ooPM. May the blessing of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, descend upon you and remain with you forever. Fr. Winchel

Deacon Informational Meeting
Do you think that God is calling you to commit to doing more
for your church and community? Are you a man between 35
and 60? If so, and you are Catholic in full communion with the
Church, with no more than one prior marriage, you may want
to learn more about becoming a deacon. Some of the ways
deacons serve are to perform baptisms, marriages and funeral
services; assist at Mass and preach; plan liturgical celebrations
and teach RCIA. Deacons visit the sick, the hospitalized and
dying; they serve in the prison ministry, and in the social
services ministries (e.g., homeless, or those with addiction.)
Some deacons work in parish administration. The Office of the Permanent Diaconate is accepting applica-
tions for the next diaconate formation class which will begin
September 2019. Applications will be accepted until
September 30, 2018. All application materials are available on
the Diocese of Savannah web site, under the link for the
Permanent Diaconate office.
http://diosav.org/permanent-diaconate-Formation An informational meeting for those who may be interested
(and their wives) or have questions will be held at St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Macon on June 4th at 7:00 P.M. in the
social hall. You may also contact Deacon Don Coates (deacondon@st-
joseph.cc) or Deacon Tom Eden ([email protected]) if
you have questions.
Mass Intentions Due to the changes in Sunday Mass times on the weekends, this will affect some of your requested Mass Intentions. We ask for your patience so that we can effectively honor all requests and make all needed changes.
Respect For Life Did you know we, as Catholics, have a moral obligation to pro-
mote the common good by exercising our privilege to vote?
(CCC 2240) So how does one navigate the choices in the voting
booth? According to the Congregation of the Doctrine of the
Faith, "a well-formed Christian conscience does not permit
one to vote for a political program or an individual law that
contradicts the fundamental contents of faith and morals."
For a brief Catechism for Catholic voters, visit
ewtn.com/vote/brief-catechism.asp. As voters, we are one step removed from resolutions that
impact important non-negotiable life issues such as abortion,
euthanasia, and embryonic stem cell research. By casting our
vote, we elect individuals who represent us in making these life
-impacting decisions. This is extremely important at the state
and congressional level, but still applicable in local elections
where future leaders often begin. The Georgia gubernatorial and congressional races offer us
several candidates who either publicly support the protection
of life or have proven their commitment through their individ-
ual voting records in office. For a recap of the candidates'
positions, visit respectlifemacon.wordpress.com. In the words of St. John Paul II, "The common outcry, which is
justly made on behalf of human rights – for example, the right
to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture – is false and
illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental
right and condition for all other personal rights, is not defend-
ed with maximum determination."
New Weekend Mass Times Reminder that the new Mass schedule, beginning June 2nd, is
Saturday, 4:30PM Sunday, 8:30AM, 11:00AM and 5:ooPM.
Saint Joseph’s Catholic School
SJS Students Honor Mary, our Blessed Mother
at May Crowning
On Thursday, May 10, 2018 St. Joseph’s Catholic School honored
Mary, our Blessed Virgin Mother, with a May Crowning and Proces-
sion. The silent procession began in front of St. Joseph’s Catholic
School and continued to St. Joseph’s Church with all 250 students
participating. Every student carried a flower which were collected
and then placed at the statue of Mary. This year Ava Hollis, a sixth
grader, was chosen to place the crown of flowers on Mary. Ava was
accompanied by 4K student, Fifi Adeniyi, who processed down the
aisle with the flowers. Witnessing our students honor the blessed
Mother Mary at the May Crowning is among the most beautiful
traditions at St. Joseph’s Catholic School!

International Exchange Students
Opportunities to host an international exchange student in
your home continue and grow, as we expand our offerings and
involvement with international students. The rewards are
great and the opportunities for you to become involved are
here again as students join our community. Host families offer
a safe and comfortable place for the student to live and study,
and offer transportation to and from school. The family re-
ceives a monthly stipend for their time and commitment, and
to offset any incurred expenses. You do not have to be a
Mount de Sales family to host. If you are interested in being a
host family for one of these students, please contact Ashley
Griffin in the MDS admissions office at (478) 751-3244.
Clean Cupboards / Clean Hearts The Clean Cupboards/Clean Hearts ministry at St Joseph
Church assists the St Vincent de Paul/St Peter Claver Church
Food Pantry by providing foods for distribution. Please place
your donations in the marked boxes in the church on June 2nd
and 3rd. The pantry has had wonderful generous donations
this year but the need is great. The shelves are still looking a
little bare after the last pantry. We would like to continue
providing the same quality and quantity of food for those we
serve and really need your help. Canned soups, boxed pasta,
sauces, canned fruits and cereals are especially needed this
month. There are always requests for cream corn, pasta and
canned peaches. Please be mindful that all items are factory
sealed and are within the “used by” date.
Thank you to the many of you who generously support this
ministry. Your contributions have made a difference in the
lives of so many.
May God bless you and your family. “For it is in giving that we receive” - St. Francis Assisi
