Maybe one of the biggest problems we have with religion is that the whole business is far too “spiritual.” Whensomethingimportanttouscan’tevenbeheldinourhands, webegintodoubthowcrucialitis.Everyday, wefacethereallycentral stuff: putting food on the table, getting money in the bank, making the baby stop crying or the spouse stopcomplainingortheparentsstopnagging!Eachdayhasitsowndemandsandchallengesthathavetobemetjusttokeepourlivesfunctioning.Wehavetobathe.Wehavetoeat.Asinconvenientasitoftenis,wehavetosleep.
Because life is sodemanding, religionoftengets relegated to the“expendable”category.Afterall, “God’s still inhisheaven” whether we paymuch attention. STEWARDSHIPREFLECTIONfortheThirdSundayofEaster–April15,2018 The final lineof theFirstReading fromtheActsof theApostles is, “Repent, therefore, thatyour sinsmaybewipedaway.”ThisispartofamessagewhichPeterevidentlyoftenstatedasheevangelizedandspreadthewordaboutthesavinggraceofJesusChrist. Penance, repentance, is an important part of our Catholic faith. […] There is much in Church doctrine about theimportance of this sacrament. TheCatechism of the Catholic Church(#1424) states, “It is called thesacrament ofconfession, since thedisclosureor confessionof sins to a priest is an essential element. In a profound sense it is also a“confession”—acknowledgementandpraise—oftheholinessofGodandofHismercytowardsinfulmenandwomen.” When St. Peterwas speaking and used the term “wiped away,” that hadmoremeaning to the people of his time.Imagineifsinswerelistedonadocumentinink.Inancienttimestheinkhadnoacidcontent,andthusitcouldbe“wipedaway”withadampcloth.ThatwastheimagePeterwaspresenting.Forusgoingtoconfessionliterally“wipesaway”oursins. Concerning Saint Charles Catholic School, in the past we were expected to contribute $18,900.00 each yeartowardstheschool.Ifyoulookunder“AccruedExpenses”youwillseethatwestillowetheschoolthefullamountfor2017andalmosthalffor2016.Althoughwemaynotbeabletopaythefullamounttotheschoolasdoneinthepast,theParishFinanceCouncilagreesthatweneedtomakeareasonablecontributioneachyear.Theschooliscountingon our support especially to cover bursaries. So the Parish Finance Council thinks it would be good to have aspecial collection for this purpose at least twice a year. FUNDRAISING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: Aswe reflect on the facts outlined in our 2017 FinancialReport, it is clear that our Parish is in need of major fundraising activities/programs to help satisfy our ongoingfinancial obligations. The establishment of an effective Fundraising andDevelopment Committee is critical to ourParish’s financial well-being for the future. We are hoping to recruit suitable parishioners to form our newFundraisingandDevelopmentCommitteeandtohaveourfirstmeetingwithinthenextmonthorso.SuchpersonsneedtobethosewhospeakpositivelyabouttheParishandarewillingtosetagoodexampleandreachouttoothersin the community.
