Organizational history:
The Saint John Valley Times was founded by Emile Genest and Joe Falter, both of
Thomaston, Connecticut, and published its first issue on 2 October 1957. It has been
owned and published since 1973 by Cleveland Newspapers (formerly Walls Newspaper,
Inc.) of Cleveland, Tennessee. An unrelated weekly also called "The Saint John Valley
Times" was published in Fort Kent, Maine for several years during the late 1930s
Scope and content:
This collection consists of Photographs and negatives from 1985-1989, all taken for
issues of the Saint John Valley Times. Included are images of individuals, businesses,
animals, and events, all reflecting life and culture within the Saint John Valley of
Aroostook County, Maine. Some of the images have descriptions and labels on their
reverse sides, although most images are unlabeled.
