2018 BISHOP’S LENTEN APPEAL BEGINS! This month many of us will receive a mailing from Bishop Burbidge regarding the 2018 Bishop’s Lenten Appeal (BLA). The theme for the 2018 BLA is “Living in Faith~~Giving in Gratitude.” After reflecting upon the many blessings that God has given you, please prayerfully consider making a pledge of support to this important appeal that funds many programs and ministries that serve the people in our diocese. Together, through the BLA, let us renew our personal com-mitment to the Lord’s work in the Diocese. Annual Giving Statements If you used Parish Envelopes in 2017, you will be sent a Fi-nancial Statement within the next week. If you have not been using envelopes, we will not be able to send a statement. Mark Jerge will be installed to the Office of Lector on Sun-day, January 28th at the 10:30 am Mass. This is in his prepa-ration for the Permanent Deaconate.

Parents of 2018 first communicants who didn’t receive information should contact Mr. Wallace. RCIA News: RCIA will resume on Monday, Jan 22. Upcoming Family Catechesis: The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that each Catholic home is called to be “the place where children receive the

first proclamation of the faith” (CCC 1666). But, we may ask, how are parents to be effective evangelists of their children? The Catechism continues: “The family home is rightly called ‘the domestic church,’ a community of grace and prayer, a school of human virtues and of Christian charity.” How can we transform our homes into such powerhouses of holiness? During this com-ing Lenten season, St John’s Religious Education department will be sponsoring a series of guest presentations which seek to explore these questions. Our theme shall be Building the Domestic Church. We hope to provide limited babysitting so that husbands and wives can both attend. De-tails will be forthcoming via our printed bulletin and various social media outlets.
