SAINT JAMES CATHOLIC SCHOOL PARISH LIFE
USCCB Pro-Life Committee Novena for Friday August 10 The King will reply, “Truly, I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matt 25:40 What is Roe v Wade? It is the 1973 Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion nationwide. A woman named Norma McCovey (“Jane Doe”) said she was pregnant from rape and wanted an abortion. She sued a Texas District Attorney (Henry Wade) to prevent him from enforcing a Texas law banning abortion except to save a mother’s life. On Jan 22, 1973, the court decided this case and a similar case (“Doe v Bolton”) in which a woman named Sandra Cano (“Mary Doe”) was denied an abortion by a hospital review committee and challenged Georgia’s law. The court struck down both laws, with the effect of striking down similar laws in all the other states as well. Norma McCovey later admitted having lied about the rape. Horrified by these decisions’ impact, she and Sandra Cano (both now deceased) urged the Supreme Court to reverse these decisions. United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, usccb.org/prolife Prayer – Most Holy and blessed Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; come dwell in our hearts and the most inner recesses of our souls. May the light of Your Life; shine through us to build a Culture of Life in the world. Our Father …. Hail Mary … Glory Be. Please remember to pray the above prayers on August 10, 2018, the second day of the Bishops novena for life. Ed Cecil, Respect Life Committee

NEW HYMNALS FOR
SAINT JAMES CATHOLIC CHURCH
Saint James Parish will begin using
new hymnals the weekend of
September 8-9, thanks to an anonymous donation
by a parishioner. The hymnal is Worship, 4th
edition, and contains a wide variety of hymns and
liturgical music. In addition, the readings for each
weekend, as well as the major feast days, are
printed. We are most grateful for the generous
gift that has allowed us to replace the well-worn
books currently in the church.
Forever Young Club
We will meet on Tuesday evening
August 14, in the Rodney Thomas
Room of Batcheldor Hall. The meal
will be potluck, all are asked to bring a dish or
dishes of your choice. We are working on having a
program but details are not finalized at this time.
Door prizes are needed and serving table workers
would be appreciated. I certainly appreciate all of
your help with the club.

The Red Mass is a Roman Catholic Mass of the Holy Spirit invoking God’s blessing and guidance on those in the legal profession. "And put on the new self, created in God’s way in
righteousness and holiness of truth." Ephesians 4:24
The distinction of being a beloved son or daughter comes
from imitating Christ. When we are baptized, we put on a
new self. This is a self that is lived in imitation of Christ.
