Lord of Miracles Mass
“When the people in the synagogue heard this they were filled with fury. They rose up and drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong. But Jesus passed through their midst…They will fight against you but not prevail over you, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.” From the holy Gospel according to Luke The call of the prophet Jeremiah and the prophetic voice of Jesus can be the source of comfort, as well as concern. A prophet is sometimes described as one who comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comfortable. Surely the mission of the Old Testament prophet and the challenge of Jesus can arouse anxiety or produce a calm, as He with us to deliver us. The word of God is designed to help us discern how we can grow in our Christian lives, to know the Lord better, to love Him in the most trying circumstance, and to serve Him in the most vulnerable and marginalized. We do not have to look far to discover where this challenge can be put into action. We so admire those who seemingly give of themselves for the good of others. Remember when a wealthy admirer told a Missionary of Charity that he wouldn’t dress the wound of a suffering leper for a million dollars. The Sister replied ‘I wouldn’t either.’
