    CHRISTMAS DAY

    25 December 2020

    11 am

    INTRODUCTORY RITES

    Caroling Before Mass

    O LITTLE TOWN OF BEHTLEHEM

    1. O little town of Bethlehem, How still we see thee lie!

    Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by;

    Yet in thy dark streets shineth The everlasting Light;

    The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in thee tonight.

    2. For Christ is born of Mary, And gathered all above,

    While mortals sleep, the angels keep Their watch of wond'ring love.

    O morning stars, together Proclaim the holy birth!

  • And praises sing to God the King, And peace to all on earth.

    3. How silently, how silently, The wondrous gift is giv'n!

    So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of his heav'n.

    No ear may hear his coming, But in this world of sin,

    Where meek souls will receive him, still The dear Christ enters in.

    4. O holy Child of Bethlehem! Descend to us, we pray;

    Cast out our sin and enter in; Be born in us today.

    We hear the Christmas angels The great glad tidings tell;

    O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel!

    ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD ON HIGH

    1. Angels we have heard on high Sweetly singing o'er the plains,

    And the mountains in reply Echo back their joyous strains.

    Refrain: Gloria in excelsis Deo! Gloria in excelsis Deo!

    2. Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong?

    Say what may the tidings be Which inspire you heav'nly song.

    3. Come to Bethlehem and see Him whose birth the angels sing;

    Come, adore on bended knee Christ, the Lord, the newborn King.

    4. See him in a manger laid Whom the angels praise above;

    Mary, Joseph, lend your aid, While we raise our hearts in love

    O HOLY NIGHT

    SILENT NIGHT

    1. Silent night! Holy night! All is calm, all is bright

    Round yon Virgin Mother and child! Holy Infant so tender and mild,

    Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace.

    2. Silent night! Holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight;

    Glories stream from heaven afar; Heav’nly hosts sing “Alleluia!

    Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born.”

    3. Silent night! Holy night! Son of God, love’s pure light

    Radiant beams from thy holy face, With the dawn of redeeming grace,

    Jesus, Lord, at thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at thy birth.

  • PROCESSIONAL HYMN __________________________ JOY TO THE WORLD

    1. Joy to the world! the Lord is come; Let earth receive her King;

    Let ev'ry heart prepare him room, And heav'n and nature sing,

    And heav'n and nature sing, And heav'n, and heav'n and nature sing.

    2. Joy to the world! the Savior reigns; Let us our songs employ;

    While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains Repeat the sounding joy,

    Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

    3. He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove

    The glories of his righteousness, And wonders of his love,

    And wonders of his love, And wonders, wonders of his love.

    PENITENTIAL ACT

    GLORIA ______________________________________ MASS OF RENEWAL

    LITURGY OF THE WORD

    Readings are from the Mass at Dawn.

    FIRST READING ____________________________________ Isaiah 62:11-12

    See, the LORD proclaims to the ends of the earth: say to daughter Zion, your savior

    comes! Here is his reward with him, his recompense before him. They shall be called the

    holy people, the redeemed of the LORD, and you shall be called "Frequented," a city that

    is not forsaken.

    RESPONSORIAL PSALM ____________________________ Psalm 97:1,6,11-12

    R. A light will shine on us this day: the Lord is born for us.

    The LORD is king; let the earth rejoice; let the many isles be glad.

    The heavens proclaim his justice, and all peoples see his glory.

    R. A light will shine on us this day: the Lord is born for us.

    Light dawns for the just; and gladness, for the upright of heart.

    Be glad in the LORD, you just, and give thanks to his holy name.

    R. A light will shine on us this day: the Lord is born for us.

  • SECOND READING ____________________________________ Titus 3:4-7

    Beloved: When the kindness and generous love of God our savior appeared, not because

    of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy, He saved us through the

    bath of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he richly poured out on us through

    Jesus Christ our savior, so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in

    hope of eternal life.

    GOSPEL ACCLAMATION _________________________________ Luke 2:14

    Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.

    GOSPEL ___________________________________________ Luke 2:15-20

    When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another,

    "Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has

    made known to us." So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant

    lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known the message

    that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had

    been told them by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in

    her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had

    heard and seen, just as it had been told to them.

    THE PROFESSION OF FAITH

    I believe in one God,

    the Father almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth,

    of all things visible and invisible.

    I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

    the Only Begotten Son of God,

    born of the Father before all ages.

    God from God, Light from Light,

    true God from true God,

    begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

    through him all things were made.

    For us men and for our salvation

    he came down from heaven,

  • (At the words that follow, up to and including “and became man,” all bow.)

    and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

    and became man.

    For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

    he suffered death and was buried,

    and rose again on the third day

    in accordance with the Scriptures.

    He ascended into heaven

    and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

    He will come again in glory

    to judge the living and the dead

    and his kingdom will have no end.

    I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

    who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

    who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,

    who has spoken through the prophets.

    I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

    I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

    and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

    and the life of the world to come. Amen.

    LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

    OFFERTORY ________________________________ WHAT CHILD IS THIS?

    1. What child is this, who, laid to rest, On Mary’s lap is sleeping? Whom angels

    greet with anthems sweet while shepherds watch are keeping?

    Refrain: This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;

    haste, haste to bring him laud, The babe, the son of Mary.

    2. Why lies he in such mean estate Where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian,

    fear: for sinners here the silent Word is pleading.

    3. So bring him incense, gold and myrrh, Come peasant, king, to own him; the

    King of kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone him.

    RECESSIONAL HYMN__________________ GO, TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN Refrain Go, tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and ev'rywhere;

    Go, tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born.

    1. While shepherds kept their watching O'er silent flocks by night,

    Behold, throughout the heavens There shone a holy light.

    2. The shepherds feared and trembled When high above the earth

    Rang out the angel chorus That hailed our Savior's birth.

    3. And lo, when they had heard it, They all bowed down and prayed;

    They traveled on together To where the Babe was laid.

    4. Down in a lowly manger The humble Christ was born,
