PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
We are one community nourished and transformed by the Eucharist.
As the body of Christ, we are led by the Holy Spirit to know,
love and serve God and one another.
PRIESTS for LIFE Parish Mission supporting Life
Father Denis G. Wilde, O.S.A., Ph.D. is Associate
Director of Priests for Life. Father Wilde will be
joining our parish May 25-29 to share the work in
which he is engaged, as well as his talents, when we
join with him to support life from conception to
natural death.
Father Wilde is a member of the Augustinian
Province of St. Thomas of Villanova and was
associate professor of music at Villanova University
from 1977 to 1998. He received his Ph.D. in music from The Catholic
University of America in 1984. Father Wilde is a professional pianist,
presenting piano recitals around the country in conjunction with his pro-life
ministry.
In addition to his campus teaching, Father Wilde has traveled to over 750
venues in 47 states, Canada, Mexico and Europe. He delivers the Gospel of
Life and supports the local pro-life efforts of clergy and laity.
Father Denis states: “There is sadly no more dangerous place to live than the
womb. This bizarre situation of a culture of death propped up by law and
camouflaged as medicine perpetuates a lie of a colossal order. Its consequence
is a dead end street to
baby, mother and
civilization.”
“. . . What a joy it is to
know God is in charge and
will not fail to lead us
forward to end this
‘unspeakable crime’.”

STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD
Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida
Jesus is the Good Shepherd Who laid down his life for His
sheep, you and me. His love for His sheep is selfless; His
desire that we choose life by following Him and His ways
is strong, beyond comparison to anything we might imagine.
Do we hear our Shepherd calling, and are we attentive to
His call? Do we respond to that call in a manner of
obedience, or do we ignore the call, pretending not to hear,
and go our own way according to our own choices?
Jesus’ call to us is continual. No matter what choices we
make, even if they do not follow His path, He never
forsakes us. He asks instead for our genuine repentance.
Heaven can begin for each of us right now. Choosing the
path Jesus chose is much better than any path we can take
on this earthly journey. But, the Cross you say, how is that
better than the pleasures of this life?
Eternal life is that which we seek. No more pain or
suffering, hurt or anger, bitterness or sorrow, for this we
long. We know, however, this cannot be ours without first
experiencing the Cross.
Embracing our cross, seeking the Will of our Father, and
following in Jesus’ footsteps, offer us incomparable joy.
This joy makes our choices easier and our journey simpler
than succumbing to the life-draining, pleasurable
temptations of our world.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
Beside restful waters he leads me;
He refreshes my soul.
He guides me in right paths for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk in the dark valley
I fear no evil; for you are at my side
With your rod and your staff that give me courage.
You spread the table before me in the sight of my foes;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my
life;
And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for years to
come.”1
“We are all called to do the will of the father and proclaim
the Son with the help of the Holy Spirit. . . . In communion
with the Trinity, we can live out God's purpose for our lives
with certitude and joy.”2

Pastoral Assistant and Community Outreach
No
importa qué decisiones tomemos, incluso si no seguimos
Su camino, Él nunca nos abandona. Él pide, en cambio,
nuestro genuino arrepentimiento.
En verdes praderas me hace descansar;
a las aguas tranquilas me conduce;
conmigo;
tu vara y tu bastón me inspiran confianza.
enemigos;
Ungiste mi cabeza con aceite;
días;

Pastor’s Message by Father Oscar Martin Picos
Last week the followers of Jesus were
compared to fishermen. Today, “Good
Shepherd Sunday”, the Lord compares His
followers to sheep.
Christ’s sheep hear His voice, discern it,
rejoice in it, and act according to His
instructions. The Bible is not a self-help
manual. It illustrates that it is always God Who helps us,
and we who respond to Him receive that help with
enthusiasm and joy. Our daily life is then marked by the
Word, not in a mystical sense, but in a shared love with the
One Who loves us.
"I give them eternal life." (John 10:28) Christ gives it
because as humans, we cannot merit or achieve it by our
own strength; we must obtain it by pure grace. He does not
say, "I will give them", but "I give them" in the present
because eternal life is a present and perpetual gift.
Eternal life has little impact in our earthly time. Today's
Word reminds us of the need that both in the catechesis
and in the pastoral ministry we make repeated reference to
eternal life, not to understanding eternity as something far
from the temporal world in which we exist. Eternal life,
being with God, is possible today, now, although not yet...
Presenting to today’s Christians that eternal life is an
inheritance the Lord offers us is a delicate and committed
challenge. In our work or pastoral action, how does one
present the reality of eternal life?
In the same way that there is an eternal life, there is an
eternal death, from which the sheep of Christ are totally
free: "… and they shall never perish. No one can take them
out of my hand." (John 10:28) We should not confuse
human suffering with the abandonment of God. God is also
telling us something in episodes of pain. He does not
abandon us; He tells us to go the next step so that we can
walk.
If we remain in the love of God, no one can take away His
love.
It is necessary to be one of Christ’s sheep to hear and
understand His voice. There are many voices in our world
that can confuse us, even distance us from the Word, but if
the Word dwells in our hearts, from there we can find
eternal life.
One of my favorite Psalms is the same as yours. Psalm 23
tells us: "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing ..." If
every Christian when proclaiming this prayer truly
internalized its message, we would already be living the
joyful experience of life eternal.
comparados a pescadores.
aunque todavía no...
No
nada me falta..."

Remembering our Deceased Loved Ones
During May, we will transition remembrance of our
deceased loved ones from the Sanctuary Candle to Our
Blessed Mother. A candle will burn perpetually near Our
Mother’s statue, Our Lady of Grace, in the Sanctuary.
Those of you who have reserved a specific week during
the early part of May to remember a loved one will be
offered another time of your choice to reschedule your
remembrance. Please call the parish office at 673-2604
to make rescheduling arrangements. We appreciate your
patience while we undergo this transition.
Once the transition is complete, we will continue to pray
for the repose of the souls of our deceased loved ones at
each Mass seeking the intercession of Our Lady of Grace.
Please plan to continue to remember in this very special
way those you have loved, who have now passed away
and are no longer with us. May they now rest in the
peace of God’s Heavenly Kingdom.

DDD
Month-to-Month
Our 2019 DDD assessment of $101,000 need not be
overwhelming. It is attainable if we all contribute. Let’s
look at the remaining balance as a month-to-month goal.
As of May 2, paid contributions of $32,459 have been
received from 9% of our parish family. Our remaining
balance is $68,541. Including the month of May, we
have eight months in which to collect this remaining
balance.
Our goal during the month of May is to collect $8,570
in paid contributions to meet our overall assessment. It
will take all of us to meet this goal!
Best scenario – we exceed our
assessment goal and get money
returned to us. Money back is
always good!
