Do You Know Anyone Who is Homebound?
Saint Gabriel Parish has Extraordinary
Ministers of Holy Communion, who will bring
Holy Communion to our parishioners who are
homebound due to illness, or injury on a
temporary or long-term basis. To make arrangements, a
family member or family friend can simple contact the
Parish Rectory Office at 860-688-4905.
Please remember those who have gone
before us marked with the sign of faith
especially, Josephine Urofsky, Brendan
Reilly and Richard Litter (brother of Jack
Litter).
Also, remember the sick of the parish at home, in hospitals
and convalescent homes especially, Edward Markowski,
Judy Collins, April McGraw, Karen Matheny and
Baby Aaron Kearns.
We would like to take this opportunity to
welcome Shirley Siragusa and The Lacouture Family as new members of St.
Gabriel Parish.
As a parish, we hope to meet all their spiritual needs and also take this time to
extend an invitation to join in the various social events and ministries of St. Gabriel
Church.
**Remember to place your prayer intentions
for “Operation: Return to the Lord Your God”
in the labeled boxes.
Defending Our Religious Liberty: Critics who say
the Catholic Church is against universal health care
are misinformed. The Catholic Church is founded on
the Corporal Works of Mercy and helping others. The
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)
has always advocated for health care. The Catholic Church
is opposing the health care mandate, because it violates the
First Amendment, which is supposed to safeguard freedom
of religion. If you haven’t done so already, please voice
your opposition to the federal health care mandate by
calling U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services,
Sylvia Mathews Burwell, at 202-205-5445, and your
elected representatives.
TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 21, 2016
Saint Gabriel
Memorial Fund
It is customary and fitting to
remember loved ones who have died
with memorial donations to a favorite cause or charity. In
this way, the memory of the deceased is honored and a
good work, either civic or religious, is perpetuated. There
are numerous charities that have been traditionally
designated for such purpose.
Memorial donations to the St. Gabriel Memorial
Fund would be used for the betterment of our St. Gabriel
Parish, as the needs present itself, or as determined by our
Pastor.
Would you consider the St. Gabriel Memorial
Fund as a worthy recipient of memorial donations at the
time of a loved one’s death?
We are grateful to the following who have donated to the
Memorial Fund in loving memory of:
Dolores Sopelak
Mary Ann and Sam Parlapiano
New Day Bereavement Group
Living through grief is not
easy and it does not have to be done
alone. St. Bridget’s Church in Manchester offers “New
Day”, a nine week program for those who wish to do grief
work with others having the same experience. This
program provides a sense of community where support is
given and received, and one feels at ease knowing that
those attending have also had the pain of loss.
“New Day” is led by trained facilitators and
includes prayer, discussion and journaling. It is a faith-
based program and all are welcome.
We are looking forward to holding our next
program on Tuesday evenings beginning September 20,
2016 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm in the St. Bridget Parish Office,
80 Main St., Manchester.
For further information or to register for the
program, please call Mary at 860-646-3848.
