Parish Champion Christmas Book Program We all want to be happy, but there is a single lie that is preventing billions of people from experiencing lasting happiness—and many don’t even realize it. At Mass this Christmas, we will be giving out copies of the book ‘The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity’ by Matthew Kelly. This special gift from our parish will em-power you to overcome the lie so that you can experi-ence more happiness than you ever thought possible. This year our Parish has generously donated 500 books to be distributed during the Christmas Masses. Merry Christmas and God bless you.

Christmas Flower Donations We are accepting donations toward the flowers for the Christmas Sea-son. This is an opportunity to provide a memorial for your beloved deceased. Please place your donation in an envelope writing the names of your loved ones on the outside. You may place your envelope in the collection basket or the rectory mailbox. Thank you for sharing in the deco-rating of God’s house for the birth of the Royal Son.

The Priests and Staff of St. Cecilia Parish

wish all our parishioners and your families

a Blessed Christmas and God’s peace.

Rectory Office will close Noon, December 24 and reopen Thursday, December 27.

Fourth Sunday of Advent December 23, 2018

FOCUS: Jesus has come to us as our King and Shepherd.

In a few days, we will celebrate the great gift that God has given to humanity two thousand years ago: the gift of Jesus. Jesus comes as Savior of the world and as the majestic King—but also as a Shep-herd who cares deeply and personally for each one of us on our journey. He is truly God’s gift to us.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, Micah prophesies that tiny Bethlehem will be the birthplace of the Messiah, a great ruler for all time. Paul reflects on Jesus’ offering of himself and his obedience to God’s will, through which we are con-secrated. The Gospel depicts Mary’s visit to Eliza-beth, who recognizes Mary’s role as Mother of God.

REFLECTION: When we celebrate the birth of the Promised One from small and insignificant Bethlehem, we might also celebrate and commit to his way – as the old song goes, "Give Peace a Chance."

Start by thinking small, the way God did. Give peace a chance in the small ways of our daily lives. Try disarming our hearts by seeking understanding and reconciliation in our relationships.

So we ask ourselves:

What in my daily words and acts reflects anger and an un-restful spirit?

How can I begin to change so as to be more an instrument of God’s peace?

Trip to Sight & Sound Theater in Lancaster We have 2 tickets available to see the production of “Jesus” on Friday, April 26, 2019. Cost is $135 and includes bus, smorgasbord lunch, show and gratuities. Bus leave 10:00am and returns 9:00pm. Please call Judi at 215-725-0903 for information and to reserve your seat. This is a great show—don’t miss the oppor-tunity to see it.

Christmas Manger Donations Donations placed in the Christmas Manger this year will be forwarded to St. Martin de Porres Parish on Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia. Thank you for your gifts to the Christ Child.

Poor Box Donations Donations placed in the Poor Boxes on Christmas and New Year’s Day will be divided and sent to St. John’s Hospice, St. Francis Inn, Mercy Hospice, Women of Hope, Bethesda Project, and Birthright. This is an excellent way for you to share with those less fortunate.

Looking for Volunteers Fox Chase Cancer Center is looking for volunteers to show compas-sion and care for patients and family members. Our volunteers tell us they get more than they give and how rewarding it is to help—especially our pet visitor volunteers—they are wagging the entire time they are here! If you have a few hours each week, give us a call at 215-728-2560 (Helen Gordon) and we can talk about volunteer opportunities.

Neumann Scholar Candidates We are delighted to report that 16 of our 8th grade students have been invited to sit for the Neumann Scholarship Exam.

Congratulations to these students— Ajibola Adesipo, Matthew Christian, John Clark, Mikayla Edwards, Jason Li, Alysa Jean-Louis, Avery Lubbe, Bridget McGarry, Kara Meredith, Amelia Pizzica, Aidan Puchalski, Steven Rohr, Adrianna Storck, Ava Santosusso-Grimaldi, Isabella Toomey, Gabriella Vu.

Holy Hour for Vocations January 6, 2019 Parishes across the Archdiocese will be joining in prayer before Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Men who were nominated during the Called by Name program are invited to attend. Priests, religious, and lay faithful are also invited to take this time before the blessed Sacrament to pray for these men and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood. The parish closest to us in Philadelphia is St. Martin of Tours and their Holy Hour will be 3:00—4:00pm on Sunday, January 6, 2019. The Cathedral Basili-ca of SS Peter & Paul will also have a Holy Hour from 5:30 to 6:30pm.

CONGRATULATIONS We congratulate the students from Saint Cecilia School and PREP who received the Sacrament of Penance for the first time on November 30 & December 1. May this be for them the beginning of a very special relation-ship with our Lord in this sacrament of His love and forgiveness. Thank you to the parents and the teachers of these students who prepared them so well for this day. Spiritual Communion My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You

into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually

into my heart. I embrace You

as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.
