My dear parishioners and friends, “Peace be with you”, This weekend, the first Sunday after Pentecost, we return to our Ordinary Time. This Sunday and next Sunday, however, are designated as solemnities, special days that call our attention to central mysteries of

our faith: The Holy Trinity and “Corpus Christi” The Feast of the Most Holy Trinity invites us to consider what we believe about God, who has revealed himself to us in the Trinity - one God in three persons. The God we worship is the God who has revealed Himself to be God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Christian understanding that God is one in nature but three in persons, can be found, firstly, in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. The Gospel itself recorded that Christ on the mountain told His disciples most explicitly: “Go. Baptize all nations in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. Even though the Trinity is beyond our reason, there is no contradiction because it is not against reason. It is a mystery but it is not an unbelievable mystery. God chooses to reveal as much as it is possible for our minds to comprehend but what is beyond reason’s grasp is not always against reason. Jesus, in St John’s gospel reveals this beautiful image of God as our Father. Deus caritas est. “God is love”. Three simple words but they open up the infinite mystery of the Trinity. Charity or love is the only way to understand the mystery of the Trinity. In Christ we discover that God is love. It is not just that God loves, but that God is, at the very core of His Being, love. When we love, we share in the very life of God. If God were alone from all eternity, then God could not be love. But because our God indeed is love, then we are caught up in this mystery and cry out ‘Abba, Father’. On this Father’s Day, our best wishes to all fathers, grandfathers or stepfathers! We offer our Masses for our dads, living or dead, invoking our Heavenly Father’s blessings on them. May all earthly fathers draw strength from their Heavenly Father! Please don’t forget to pray for us your spiritual Fathers – men who are called to be Fathers through the Sacrament of Holy Orders. In Cristo,

Fr Charbel

St. Agnes Parish Adoration Chapel

“‘Come, my soul, redouble your ardor! You are here alone to adore your God! His look rests on you alone!’ Ah! If we only had the angels’ eyes! Seeing our Lord Jesus Christ here, on that altar, and looking at us, how we should love Him! We should want to stay always at His feet; it would be a foretaste of heaven; everything else would become insipid to us.” ~ St. John Vianney. Wouldn’t you join our Lord in our peaceful adoration chapel located in the PSR bldg.? Every hour is open for commitment. Call Traci Schott at 225-281-4300
