Four winners each received $25 in cash and $75 towards tuition for the next school year. The winners are: Amber Michel, Ty Meyer, Nathan Kamphaus and Andrew Morman. Congratulations!!!! Parish Ministry Schedules ~ The Parish Ministry Schedules for May and June can be picked up on the table in the back of church. The schedules are also on the http://cgstanthony.weebly.com/organizations.html page. Attention Greeters ~ The bulletins will now be in the holders before Mass due to several entrances not being attended by the Greeters. Please-Please find a replacement if unable to fulfill assigned Mass time. Our parishioners count on us to be reliable in our ministry. Please continue to remove the bulletins from the holders before Mass and hand them out after Mass and then place all the bulletins back in the holders before leaving in case the Greeter for the next Mass is not there. Thank you for serving our parish in this ministry. Attention Parishioners ~ If you would prefer to have all of your donations to St. Anthony's be considered school donations, please sign the paper on the table in the back of church. By signing this paper, all of your donations will stay in the parish. We are assessed by the Diocese a percentage of all regular, Christmas and Easter contributions. School donations are not assessed. The current list of those parishioners whose donations are considered school donations is also on the table in the back of church. If your name has been listed in previous years, there is no need to sign the paper again. If you are a new signer, your name will be added to the list and your contribution envelopes for 2019 will all be school donation envelopes. If your current contribution envelopes are not all school donation envelopes, your name is not on the list. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the parish office at 419-659-2263. Cleaning The Rectory ~ We will be giving the rectory a good "Spring Cleaning" on Tuesday, May 29th. We will begin at 8:30 a.m. and with many good helpers, we will finish in just a couple of hours. Please bring your own bucket. We have plenty of cleaning rags. Coffee, orange juice and coffeecake will be served prior to starting the job. Thanks in advance for all of those willing to help! Discipleship ~ The Discipleship group will be meeting on Wednesday, May 30th at 7:00 p.m. in the church basement. Cemetery Flowers Found ~ A beautiful arrangement of red and white roses was found after a very windy day at the Cemetery. If this description of an arrangement matches flowers that are missing from your loved one's memorial stone, call the parish office at 419-659-2263. The saddle of flowers will be at the parish office. School Advisory Council (SAC) ~ This Council is an advisory group, concerned and knowledgeable people representing the members of St. Anthony Parish whose purpose is assisting the Pastor/Principal in matters relating to the school. The Council does not function in the manner of a public school board; rather, it is an advisory body. The SAC duties encompass many school supportive functions such as offering input on local policies relating to the planning and operating of present and future facilities and equipment. The SAC is supportive of policies both local and Diocesan which guide educational programs of the parish. SAC members are helpful in moderating the effectiveness of the school educational program. The SAC helps with raising money for and deciding on expenditures from the 300 Club. The School Advisory Council presently is seeking a new member to fill the position of a resignation for the new 2018-19 school year. If interested please contact Mr. Scott Hummel or Mrs. Lori Giesige at the school office at 419-659 -2103. Vacation Bible School News ~ Please sign your child in at the registration table located in the main entrance of the school shortly before 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 4th. The helpers will direct your child to their room. Please pick up your child at 12:00 p.m. in their room. Thanks! Vacation Bible School Helpers ~ Any junior high and high school students are welcome to help. Please pick up a help wanted form at the entrances of church and return your completed form to the parish office or drop it in the collection. Thanks!! Vacation Bible School News ~ Our VBS program will be held the week of June 4-8 from 9:00-12:00 noon in the school with a Celebration Night on Thursday, June 7 from 7:30-8:00 p.m. Registration forms will be available at the church entrances and parish office. This program is for children age 4 through incoming 6th graders. Sign up your kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews for engaging faith-based lessons, fun songs and dance, cute crafts, and yummy snacks! If you didn't get a chance to turn in your registration form, feel free to bring your children the day of

Vacation Bible School. Children are always welcome! Any questions, please call Judy Schroeder at 419-659-5498. Thanks!

2018 Summer Festival ~ There will be a planning meeting for our 2018 Summer Festival on Wednesday, June 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the church basement. Chairpersons and any other interested parishioners are encouraged to attend. This year the Summer Festival will be held on August 4th and 5th. Garage Sale ~ Good News! We will be able to have the Garage Sale again this year and will begin accepting items on June 1st. They can be left inside the south entrance of the Garage Sale shed (driveway off of DeBlanche) or at the northwest entrance of school by the modular unit. We do not accept electronics or clothing. Please don't bring items that are broken or items that no longer have any value to anyone. It is also very helpful having all the pieces together for those items that come in pieces. The Garage Sale is a great money maker for our annual parish festival. We truly appreciate all those great donations that come in for the Garage Sale. Please be considerate of those taking care of your donations. Cash or Car! ~ We will again be raffling off up to $20,000 toward the purchase of a new vehicle or $15,000 in cash at the parish festival this year. The advantage of this approach has been that the winner can purchase any new vehicle of any color. It also gives the winner the option of taking cash and not having the hassle of selling the vehicle. H & K Chevrolet from Continental has again offered to showcase their new vehicles for our festival. Tickets are $20 for the first ticket and $5 for a second chance to win. Tickets will be sold every weekend now through festival day. This year we will do a single early bird drawing. Instead of two $100 drawing in June and July, we are going to do a single $250 drawing on Father's Day, June 17th. If you have any questions or for purchasing tickets, contact Mike Birkemeier at 419-234-6993, Mark Edelbrock at 419-659-2269 or Harold Gerten at 419-659-5914. Tickets can also be purchased at the parish office. If you can sell tickets before and after weekend Masses, please contact Mark Edelbrock at 419-659-2269.

Festival Workers' List ~ The 2018 St. Anthony Parish Festival is right around the corner! If you would like to change your festival job or the time you work, please contact Dee Griffith at 419-646-3449. Also, if you know you will not be able to work at the festival, please contact Dee so she can take you off the list for this year. She will need to be notified of any changes by June 1st. Thank you for your support of our festival each year. It takes all of us to make this annual event a success. ********************************************************************************************** Y.E.S. – Youth Elect Service – June 7-9 ~ The 2018 Y.E.S. project will be held at Columbus Grove High School this year beginning Thursday, June 7th at 5:30 p.m. Current 8th grade students through graduating seniors are encouraged to join us for this weekend service retreat. Marcus loved showing his goats at the Putnam County Fair and succeeded beyond expectations. Marcus’s love for his family, friends, and his dog Lightning was what every parent wants in a son. FORTY-FIVE YEARS: On Saturday May 26 in Rosary Cathedral, the Bishop ordained three young men to the priesthood: Fathers Andrew Wellman (Delphos), Kyle Gase (Fostoria), and Scott Perry (St. Joseph, Tiffin). On Saturday May 26, 1973, the Bishop ordained three young men to the priesthood, and I was one of them. My classmates and I haven’t outlasted the Queen, but we've outlasted 3 Bishops of Toledo, 4 Popes, 8 Presidents, and 227 starting quarterbacks of the Cleveland Browns. Seriously, it wasn’t my own staying power that has kept me in the priesthood that long. It was the grace of God, which has been working in many ways, chiefly through the Eucharist, but also through the encouragement of so many parishioners.

SOUND OF THE BELLS: What are the sounds of Columbus Grove? Train whistles at all hours, and trucks starting up after the traffic light turns green, and shifting up into higher gears. Sometimes it’s the elevator drying grain, or Production Products’ stamping machines going “clank” in the night. Sometimes it’s the kids a few houses away from the rectory having a rip-roaring good time in the back yard. Now, thankfully, the St. Anthony’s bell has returned to the soundscape. We parted ways a few years ago with our former bell repair company, and kept the bell ringing on our own with some success until just the other month. We located a new bell repair company, and they were able to find a non-functioning relay switch hidden behind other parts. Once they replaced the switch, we were back in business. And that’s a good thing too. The St. Anthony’s bell is a reminder that life isn’t all about making and shipping products, and making money. The bell reminds people to sanctify the hours of the day with prayer. It’s an audible reminder that Sunday Mass is important. When it tolls at funerals, it’s a call to pray for a parishioner who died, and a reminder that none of us is indestructible; someday the bell will toll for each of us. The bell can also be the Church crying out its joy. I let it ring a good while when Pope Francis was elected. I’ll bet it woke the town at midnight on January 1, 2000. Maybe it even rang on the first VE Day and VJ Day in 1945. The bell may need more help eventually. Most of its mechanism is original equipment from 1953. Its clapper is becoming flat on one side, which could eventually crack the bell. We will continue to monitor the situation closely. CROSS CATHOLIC OUTREACH: Father John Quinn will be visiting our parish next weekend to speak at all Masses on behalf of Cross Catholic Outreach. Cross Catholic Outreach was founded to create a meaningful link between parishes in the USA and the priests and nuns working in Africa, Asia, Central and South America, and the Caribbean Islands.
