———CALENDAR OF THE WEEK——— !!Dear Parishioners and Visitors, This weekend we complete the “Lenten Homily

Series” on the Mass. I have received a lot of feedback from

parishioners that the series has been helpful, interesting,

and informative. I am so pleased.

With regard to last week’s homily on Mass as Sac-

rament of Forgiveness, it’s no surprise that the Evil One

would wind his way into the Church, trying to convince

people of their unforgivable-ness. As I said last weekend,

while the Church has always condemned such false teach-

ings from an official level, on the level of practice such

false teachings have always sought to call into doubt the

efficacy of Christ’s redemptive death and resurrection. (It is

interesting, but undeniably true, that debates over grace and

forgiveness are what led to the splintering of Christianity in

the Protestant Reformation.)

That is why Scripture calls the Evil One the

“Father of Lies,” the “Deceiver,” and the “Accuser.” Both

on an institutional and personal level, the Evil One is al-

ways trying to convince us that we are not true recipients of

God’s love, and that our sins are stronger than His mercy.

Since the Evil One could not prevent Christ’s live-giving

death and resurrection, he is making war on us, as predicted

in the Book of Revelation: “The Devil, or Satan, the an-

cient serpent, who deceived the whole world…went off to

wage war against those who keep God’s commandments

and bear witness to Jesus.” (Rev 12:9,17) And what is the

main thing he attacks: our belief in a loving and merciful

God who forgives us in order that we might be close to

Him.

As we progress steadily toward the celebration of

our redemption at Easter, let us be renewed in our absolute

certainty of a loving and merciful God, who by means of

His Sacraments, seeks to assure of His power to save, and

His love for each one of us. Fr. Michael

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

What are we supposed to do with our old palms? According to the Code of Canon Law, blessed items-such as palm branches-are not to be discarded in a trash can, but treated with respect (cf.#1171). Palm branches are set apart by a blessing from the priest and made into a “sacramental,” an object that is meant to draw us closer to the celebration of the seven sacraments. Throwing them in the trash ignores their sacred purpose and treats them like any other object we no longer need. That being said, your old palm branches should return to nature by being burned or buried in order to properly dispose of them. This type of disposal honors their sacred purpose and returns them to the earth in a dignified way. Ashes from the burned palms can be placed in your flowerbed or garden, as can the whole palms

themselves.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from the

Office of Family Life Education (A Hope Ap-

peal Agency)

Relationships come with a price tag. We must be

willing to entrust ourselves to another, to let go of our autono-

my and die to our independence. It is in dying to our inde-

pendence that we find interdependence with others.
