———CALENDAR OF THE WEEK———
Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
Happy Mercy Sunday. Being Polish, the
late Pope St. John Paul II had a great devotion to St.
Faustina Kowalska, the Polish sister to whom Jesus
appeared and imparted to the devotion to the Divine
Mercy of God, freely poured out to us in Jesus. Her
diary has become a staple of spiritual reading for so
many, and Pope John Paul made it one of the goals of
his pontificate to spread not only her story, but to in-
spire devotion worldwide to the Divine Mercy of Je-
sus. He was the one who beatified and canonized St.
Faustina, and established the Sunday after Easter as
Divine Mercy Sunday. He died on the vigil of Divine
Mercy Sunday in 2005, was beatified on Divine Mer-
cy Sunday in 2011, and canonized on Divine Mercy
Sunday in 2014. That’s a little history of this feast.
To celebrate, you are invited to an hour of
prayer at St. Ambrose from 2:30 until 3:30 this Sun-
day, April 28, where we will hear excerpts from St.
Faustina’s diary, pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet at
3:00, the hour of Christ’s death, also known as the
“hour of mercy,” and celebrate Benediction. There is
a reception in the parish hall to follow. Spread the
word and invite anyone you would like. It is a beauti-
ful way to celebrate that loving mercy of God that is
more powerful than sin or death, and by which we are
assured of everlasting life. God bless, and see you
there.
Fr. Michael

collected over $1,660 for Heifer International during the school
year, 2018-2019. They selected the following animals to be do-
nated to people in the world living in the most dire poverty:
1 water buffalo, 3 llamas, 2 goats, 1 sheep, 2 pigs, 15 rabbits,
2 flocks of chicks and 1 flock of ducks. Their generosity will
have an enormous impact on these people and their communi-
ties. Plus, the kids are forming a habit of social justice that will
remain with them throughout their lives. We are very proud of
our OLGC children!!!

soda and dessert. A cash bar is available. All adult parishion-
ers from OLGC and St. Ambrose parishes are welcome to

RCIA: Our Lady of Good Counsel and St. Ambrose parishes
rejoice as Beth Scordino and Jen Dube have received the sacra-
ments of Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. They
will continue to participate in the final RCIA period called Mys-
togogia that continues through Pentecost. Please welcome and
congratulate these women as new members of our churches.
PRAYERS NEEDED! Father Robert, in his 2019 First Quar-
terly Report from Uganda, has asked for our prayers. They are
experiencing a severe drought, which has a huge impact on the
crops that are essential for their existence.
The good news is that the girls continue to do well with
their education, and the children (as part of a Lenten chari-
ty) built a house for an elderly person. All sent wishes for a
blessed Easter season to the OLGC parish, and Father again
expressed his gratitude for our continued support. Check
the OLGC website (www.olgcendicott.org) for pictures and
more news! Please remember to keep Iyolwa in your pray-
ers.

Divine Mercy Sunday
A relatively new addition to the Roman
Catholic liturgical calendar. Divine Mercy
Sunday is celebrated on the Octave of
Easter (the eighth day of Easter; that is,
the Sunday after Easter Sunday). Cele-
brating the Divine Mercy of Jesus Christ,
as revealed by Christ Himself to St. Maria
Faustina Kowalska, this feast was extend-
ed to the entire Catholic Church by Pope
John Paul II on April 30, 2000, the day
that he canonized Saint Faustina. Christ's Divine Mercy is
the love that He has for mankind, despite our sins that sepa-
rate us from Him.
Christ appeared to a Polish nun, Sr. Maria Faustina
Kowalska, in a series of visions that took place over almost
eight years. Among those visions, Christ revealed the Di-
vine Mercy Novena, which He asked Sister Faustina to pray
for nine days, beginning on Good Friday. That meant that
the novena ended on the Saturday after Easter — the eve of
the Octave of Easter. Thus, since novenas are commonly
prayed in advance of a feast, the Feast of Divine Mercy —
Divine Mercy Sunday — was born.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from
the Office of Family Life Education (A
Hope Appeal Agency)
Jesus connects PEACE and FOR-
GIVENESS in today’s gospel. In our families we will only
experience peace to the extent we forgive one another. Peace
is purchased with the currency of forgiveness. When we allow
our anger and pride to lock out others, we also lock out peace
and harmony.
