———CALENDAR OF THE WEEK———

Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
I hope all is well. At the entrances of our
churches this weekend is a copy of a letter written by
Bishop Cunningham to all. It is in response to the
NYS Assembly’s Legislation on Abortion Expansion.
Unfortunately, the action letter written by the NYS
Bishops prior to the legislation came out the weekend
of the snowstorm and so was not disseminated in time
for a large-scale effort in advance. The current letter
is a response by the Bishop to current legislation. Feel
free to pick one up as you leave today.
I also have been asked to clarify something I
wrote in the bulletin a few weeks back regarding daily
Mass at St. Ambrose and OLGC. Upon re-reading it, I
see how what I wrote could be confused for something
I didn’t intend to say. When speaking of cancelling
daily Mass, I was only referring to times when I hap-
pen to be away. I am not intending on cancelling daily
Mass as a permanent feature of our schedule. I can
understand, however, that what I wrote might have
given that impression to some, so I apologize for the
confusion.
May God continue to bless you for all you to
do make our parishes excellent communities to be a
part of. Have a great week,
Fr. Michael

Getting Ready for Lent
Lenten Regulations: Ash Wednesday
and Good Friday are days of fast and absti-
nence. Catholics 14 years of age and older are
bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednes-
day and the Fridays of Lent. Catholics age 18 to 59 are bound
by the law of fasting. “The Law of Fasting allows only one
full meal a day, but does not prohibit taking some food in the
morning and evening, observing-as far as quantity and quality
are concerned-approved local custom”. (Apostolic Constitu-
tion Poenitemini, 1966)
The Celebration of the Rite of Marriage is prohibited
on Good Friday and Holy Saturday. In the Diocese of Syra-
cuse, marriages are not permitted on Sunday or after 4:00 on
Saturday, except for serious reasons AND with the written
permission of the Bishop or his delegate and the consent of the
pastor of the parish. The place for the celebration of marriage
is the parish church, unless particular ecumenical or interfaith
considerations dictate otherwise, and permission has been
granted by the Bishop or his delegate.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from
the Office of Family Life Education (A
Hope Appeal Agency)
In studying the effects of religion upon fami-
ly relationships, researchers inform us hostility and prayer
can’t coexist. You cannot be hostile toward someone for
whom you are praying. Today’s gospel encourages us: “Bless
those who curse you. Pray for those who treat you badly.”
