Planning has started for the 2020-2021 school year at St. Aloysius! With guid-

ance from the Illinois State Board of Education and the Diocesan Office of Education, our

Re-Opening Task Force is evaluating the best way to meet student needs as we resume in-

person learning. Parents will be asked to fill out a survey about their 2019-2020 experi-

ence with distance learning so we can better guide that process should we need to resume

e-learning at some point next year. Please know that our number one goal is to have stu-

dents back in our building. While I know there will be changes, it is my hope that at St.

Al’s our changes will be minimal in order to meet the needs of our students and families

while operating within the guidelines that will be put forth by the State. The first day of

school is Monday, August 17!

Congratulations to our 8th grade class at St. Aloysius School! They will celebrate their

graduation this week! We are very thankful that we are finally now able to come together

for this momentous occasions. Blessings on all of our graduates celebrating this important

milestone.

St. Aloysius School will continue to enroll students through the summer months. We are

a preschool thru 8th grade, north-end Springfield faith community served by award-

winning faculty and dedicated staff! We provide extra-curricular activities and offer IESA,

as well as SCAA, sports teams, an art and music program, and a STEM curriculum. If you

know someone interested in St. Aloysius School, please have them e-mail Angie Daniels

or Denise Reavis for more information.

School Office Hours…The school office will be open during the summer on Wednes-

days from 9:00am-noon. Mrs. Reavis and Mrs. Daniels can be reached at 544-4553 or by e

-mail. The parish office (Mr. Harkins) will be open from 9:00am-noon Monday –

Thursday.

SHG will be hosting the 2020-2021 Zero Hour Testing Monday, June 29th. All

testers need to arrive at SHG east campus by 8:45am to begin the test at 9:00am. Due to

the current COVID19 safety precautions issued by IDPH, all testers are required to wear a

mask and will have their temperature taken at the door. The exam will take approximately

90 minutes and students may NOT use a calculator for any part of the test. All students

will need to bring a pencil to the exam. Please direct questions to [email protected].

Please remember that if your child is entering preschool, Pre-K, Kindergarten, or the 6th

grade a Physical Examination must be completed with-in one calendar year prior to

the date of entry. The exam must include up-to-date immunizations and a medical history.

Students entering Kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th grades will need a dental exam. Also- stu-

dents entering Kindergarten will also need an eye exam performed by a licensed optome-

trist. Exams must be completed within one year prior to the first entrance to the required

grade. The exam must be completed on the required state “Certificate of Child Health”

form. Parent Sig-nature and completion of the Health History section is required on this

form. Current physical, dental and eye examinations need to be returned to our school

office prior to the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

Happy Summer Vacation to our parish family. Thank you for all you do and your

wonderful support to our school!

“Love is the True North that always leads us home.”

Around the Church

Please note in your June envelopes you will find a yellow enve-

lope for St. Aloysius School Tuition Assistance. These

monies will go to help those families, who have been approved

through our FACTS Tuition Grant and Aid Assessment Program,

qualify for financial assistance to attend our school. We are deep-

ly appreciative for your support of this special envelope.

Now is the time to consider offering RCIA (Rite of Christian Ini-

tiation of Adults), to that person who seems as though they might

be interested in your Faith. No, they don’t need to have decided

anything, but perhaps are just hearing or feeling a call, or pull.

RCIA is where one can learn about the Catholic Faith without

having to make a commitment. If you know someone, perhaps

ask them if they are interested and let them know you will help

them learn more about RCIA which is a way adults can enter the

Church – if they choose. Call the parish office for more infor-

mation (544-4454).

Protecting God’s Children… We are in the process of mail-

ing background check renewal forms to all volunteers who have

reached the 5 year (or longer) expiration on their background

checks. If you received renewal forms please complete the forms

ASAP. Thank you for your dedication to St Aloysius Parish and

to keeping our children and vulnerable adults safe.

Bereavement Ministry... Cathedral parish will begin hosting

Grief Share, a weekly, faith-based, grief support group. If you, or

someone you know, would like help and encouragement after the

death of a spouse, child, family member, or friend, please join us

beginning Thursday, July 2, 6:00-8:00pm in the Cathedral

School Library. Grief Share runs for 14 weeks, but guests may

join the series at any point and can pick up content they missed

during the next cycle. For more information contact Vicki Comp-

ton at 522-3342 or 725-4448 or [email protected].

St. John’s Breadline is requesting bottled water for the up-

coming hot weather. Donations can be dropped of at 430 North

5th Street from 7:00am –1:00pm. Thank you!

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time ... Sunday, June 28…

Being a Worthy Disciple. We hear in Romans 6 today what we

also read during the Easter Vigil (even if we could not attend this

year). We hear this: death and burial with Christ in Baptism is

all about newness of life. It is about living the Christian

life. This discipleship is not a hobby. It is a challenging way of

life requiring art and skill and diligence. What is my baptismal

duty for this week? How will I follow after Christ? To whom will

I offer a “cup of cold water” or some other mercy work?

Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles, Solemnity … Monday,

June 29… “Follow Me.” Make note of two great men, Peter and

Paul, saints of God, and models of faith. Not perfect but good

enough to be chosen and loved by Christ. Us, too – chosen and

loved. Called to follow that same Jesus Christ. How will I follow

this week; what will I do?

Reality

Rejection takes all kinds of forms. And all of them suck.

Whether it’s getting picked last when they were picking teams in school.

Or not getting the job. Or the death of a relationship. Or someone reject-

ing the possibility of even having a relationship with you.

Those are the easy ones to spot.

Rejection also takes the form of constant criticism. Second-guessing.

Undermining. Almost but not quite comments. Letting you know that

whatever you did, it’s not good enough.

Rejection sucks. And not just in the moment.

Have you ever noticed how rejection always echoes the loudest? It’s true

for every other negative thing as well. There’s something about us that

hangs onto that stuff. That repeats it.

Like a negative echo chamber. A looping greatest hits collection. Of

moments we didn’t want to live through the first time.

Almost like we’re trying to sell ourselves. On the worst product in the

world.

With no thought to whether it has any grounding in reality.

Which is why it is so critical for you and me to not let that negative loop

have its way. To intentionally ground ourselves in reality.

The only way to do that? Prayer.

As Bishop Barron puts it, “Prayer is stopping and taking a very contem-

plative look at The Real. God is the Realest Thing.”

What does that have to do with our penchant for hanging on to the nega-

tive?

Our penchant for hanging on to the negative is a road to nowhere. It’s

just a self-reinforcing opinion. One that’s groundless. Because it ignores

The Real.

The Realest Thing?

Knows you. Because He made you. You are fearfully and wonderfully

made.

The Realest Thing?

Knows everything about you. Because He formed your inmost being.

The Realest Thing?

Knows at your worst. And still loves you.

There’s your grounding in reality. From the very

source of all that is Real.

Let us pray.

-Deacon Jim

Parish Bulletin Board

This weekend we once again will celebrate public Mass in our parish. Attendance will

be limited to 25% of the church’s seating capacity. This is roughly 150 people. We will

have Saturday Mass at 4:30pm and one mass Sunday at 8:00am. Parishioners will still

have a dispensation from the obligation to attend. We were blessed to have many parish-

ioners and their families attend Mass times on Saturday and Sunday. Following social

spacing and guidelines it was certainly a successful start to what will hopefully be a steady

return to regularity If you are in a risk category (or someone in your immediate family is),

it might be wise to not attend at this time. Last weekend 156 people attended Church. The

current dispensation from attendance at weekend mass remains in effect.

We will continue to live stream Mass on Sunday, weekday Mass and the rosary. We will

also provide communion services after the weekend masses to those unable to go to Mass.

Going to Mass. Please arrive tot church at least 10 minutes before Mass begins. Masks

are required if you wish to enter church. Hand sanitizers will be available in the vesti-

bule. The ushers will direct you to your seat. Every other row of pews will be taped off

and tape marks will be placed on the pews for social distancing. Families living in the

same house may sit together, but otherwise you are asked to observe the markings. There

will be no missalettes (they have been taped off and there will be no bulletins( they will be

emailed on Fridays) You may bring your own missal but please take with you when you

leave. The collection basket will be placed in the middle of church for your donation. You

can still drop your envelopes off at the rectory mailbox or by mail. Following social spac-

ing and guidelines it was certainly a successful start to what will hopefully be a steady

return to regularity.

Act of Spiritual Communion... A Prayer by St. Alphonsus Liguori … My Jesus, I be-

lieve that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I

desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramen-

tal, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and

unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

The Parish office is open 9:00-noon (Monday-Thursday) to the public. In the afternoons

we will be working on details (moving storerooms, files, archives of various sorts, etc.) at

the Rectory and on campus. Our weekly bulletin will be accessible through our parish

website. This is the best way to know what is going on in the parish. You can also sign up

to receive Flocknotes. Instruction our on the website.

There is an envelope in your June packet for the building fund. This envelope will help

generate monies that allow us to undertake parish projects that we could not complete with

our ordinary operating budget. In the coming months the chimney on the church will be

needing some repairs, bids are being collected. Repairs on the sewage pump in church

have been ongoing. New parts are on order and will be installed over the summer. MANY

THANKS!
