From Fr. Charbel… Fourth Sunday of Easter April 22, 2018
My Dear parishioners and friends,
“Peace be with you”.
After being crucified, Jesus showed himself alive by appearing to the disciples on several occasions. He walked with them, talked with them, and ate fish in front of them and let them touched His Risen Body.
Many people in both ancient and modern times have tried to disprove the resurrection, but all have failed. The power of this message, of his resurrection is seen in the growth of the early church till now, in spite of brutal opposition...
Why were these early Christians willing to face death for their belief in Jesus Christ? Would these disciples have endured such persecution for a dead man? Why are our Christian brothers today, in Syria, in Iraq, In Egypt, and in Nigeria and in other places in the middle east willing to face death and give their life and die for their faith in Christ? Would you be willing to be persecuted or killed for something you knew was a lie? Certainly not! So, how can we know beyond any doubt that Jesus really rose from the dead?
The disciples saw the risen Lord, then gave their very lives in service to Him. I can imagine the excitement of these early Christians, these followers of Jesus, who had seen and heard of His death. They were no longer afraid of death or persecution, but their minds are opened to understand the Scriptures about the Messiah and His mission. they were transformed and believed so much in the resurrection that they gave their lives in sharing the good news.
We as Christians, we must be prepared to demonstrate that Christ's resurrection was an event that occurred in space and time that it was, in reality, historical and not mythological. The first disciples attested to a material and a physical resurrection. We really believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus is not a metaphysical doctrine, nor a scientific fact. As Christians science can't help us prove this reality of our faith. I am not saying science discredited the resurrection, but I want to say that science cannot and does not disprove the resurrection. Science, or natural science, offers natural explanations of natural events, or describes the world of nature, or the normal course of events, but also, we believe that science has made the world seem more comprehensible.
Two thousand years ago, maybe people, without the help of science were more open then to the possibility of miracles than we are today, but miracles like the resurrection are abnormal. It does not take modern science to tell us that humans don't rise from the dead; Miracles are, by definition, abnormal and non-reproductible, so they cannot be proved by science's methods. Indeed, that is why the resurrection was seen as a great demonstration of God's power.

Prison Ministry volunteers
Catholic Charities office of Prison Ministry is hosting Messengers of Hope… Prison Ministry Volunteers on Sat., June 25th at 9:30am-1pm in room 206 of the Bishop Robert E. Tracy Center on the Catholic Life Center, 1900 S. Acadian Thruway. Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Muench at 8:30am in the St. Joseph Chapel. Food pantry
Our mission is to provide food to the hungry people who live within the St. Agnes Church geographic area. We need basic food items such as: cans of vegetables, bags of dry beans & boxes of pasta but no perishable items. Please place your food items in the food barrel in the vestibule of church. Thank you for your generosity.
Mission Appeal at St. Agnes
This weekend April 21-22, the second collection is for the mission appeal made by the Indian Missionary Society, Ranchi Region. Fr. Noas Nag IMS will be making the appeal. The missionary members of this Region work in Northern India among the tribal people. The tribal people live in rural areas, in forests and mountainous regions, where the civil development work has not reached. The missionaries work for the integral development of these tribal people from religious, educational, health, social, cultural and economic perspectives. The missionaries also run a school, a hostel, orphanages and a drug rehabilitation center. Your generous help and contribution will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and may God bless you all.
