With the adversity we have faced as individuals, communities and as a nation in the last year, we can sometimes find ourselves trading hope for despair. For some of us, our lives have changed dramatically, whilst for others, very little. Job loss, health issues, restrictions and more can leave us with a feeling of apprehension and worry for what the future will hold.
“If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. If it's not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever.” – The Dalai Lama
Having an understanding that we are not always in control and that our lives are not always going to be full of joy is an important part of remaining optimistic. Optimism is not being happy and positive all of the time, it is the hopefulness and confidence and knowledge that future success will come.
Sathya Sai Baba put it quite simply, “Life is a mosaic of pleasure and pain – grief is an interval between two moments of joy.” No matter what despair and hopelessness may be present in your thoughts or life, be reassured that this is just an interval between two moments of joy. Michael Forrester

NCIS SWIMMINGOn Wednesday the 24th of February, 12 students from the primary school represented Sathya Sai College at the NCIS Swimming Carnival at Alstonville. The first race of the day began with our 8–10 Years Boys relay team, consisting of Joonatan, Harry, Sunny and Dustin. The boys swam their hearts out to finish 3rd which was a great start to the day!
The NCIS Swimming Carnival brings out the best in the athletes who compete and this was certainly true for our swimmers. Each and every one of them shaved some time off their qualifying times from our carnival last year. From Shimmer Cranney who swam 7 seconds faster in her backstroke event to Harry Matisons who swam 37 seconds faster in his breaststroke event, they were all motivated to do their best, which is how champions are made.
A special thank you to Kym who travelled down to support our squad and help make the day run as smoothly as possible.

YEAR 6 EHVThis fortnight, we have been celebrating the value of Optimism. Practising the value of Optimism during difficult times can help us to feel better about the situation and help us to make good choices to help turn the situation around.
Sometimes, being Optimistic requires bravery and strength—similar qualities to that of a lion. Year 6 students looked at words that demonstrated Optimism and represented these around the lions mane.

PARENT EHV SESSIONS Dear Parents & Carers,
There will be two parent EHV (Educating Human Values) Sessions held in Week 2 of Term 2. The sessions will be held via Zoom from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM (approximately) on the 27th and 28th of April and will deliver the same content.
These sessions are a great opportunity for new and existing Parents & Carers to develop a deeper understanding of the Values, as well as share in a meaningful and connected experience with other parents, staff and Board members from our School community.
Please fill in the following short form indicating your desired session time or if you are unable to make it.

SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE This year, we are excited at Sathya Sai College, to again have a strong team of students who have volunteered to be a part of the Sustainability Committee. This role requires dedication, responsibility and a commitment to caring for our planet.
There are four main roles that the children rotate through. One group is responsible for collecting and checking the recycling daily, another does the same with the class compost bins. One group is responsible for running the waste free lunch box competition and the other works with Mrs. Cargnoni to maintain our beautiful school gardens. I am very proud of the students who have taken on their responsibilities with such enthusiasm and look forward to working with them throughout the year to ensure that Sathya Sai College remains committed to our mission of improving sustainable practices.
Thank you to the parents who are so positively embracing the waste free lunch box program. I was thrilled when two weeks ago we had 100% waste free lunch boxes across the school. We are now choosing a random day to check lunch boxes and the first week of this still found the school with 95% rubbish free lunch boxes. We should be very proud of this achievement.
