Project Title: WATER HYA-CRAFTS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE

Problem Statement:

Aside from being one of the conflict-affected areas in the municipality of Aleosan,Barangay Dungguan is also located near the marsh and the water hyacinth clogs the water which makes it more prone to flooding that affects the suitability of the soil for planting crops like corn and rice. These lead them to engage themselves in “kaingin” as one of the source of their income.

Community Needs:

• Alternative source of income instead of “kaingin”.

Objectives: • To promote environmental awareness among the residents of Barangay Dungguan and these would lead them to understand environmental justice.

• To involve youth, and the adults(farmers,women)in promoting environmental justice.

• To assist the residents in providing an alternative source of income instead of “kaingin”.This will became a new way to increase and develop their economic status.

Solution statement The water hyacinth from the marsh will be harvested so that it won’t clog the water. The harvested water hyacinth will be used as raw materials for making handicrafts that would eventually lead them to stop the “kaingin” system

Output The residents will undergo a training, and their will be weekly and monthly checking of the project.

Outcome The environmental awareness of the residents of the said Barangay will be raised as well as their economic status.
