Electrical safetyService powerThe mill’s voltage system for fixed installed service power in newer plants is normally 400/230V 50Hz and has direct earthing.

In some older parts of the mill there is a service power network of 525V 50Hz that does not have direct earthing. This system may only be used for connecting transformers with 525/400V.

Fixed terminals with 400/230V 50Hz have sockets for 63A, 32A, 16A and 10A; RCD, residual cur rent device (30mA) must be used.

Storage containersSockets in containers may only be used for the work being carried out inside them or immediately outside their doors.

An extension lead from a socket in a container may only be used for work in the next container. The doors of the containers shall be connected to the steel body of the container by an earthing wire.A socket

In most cases one or several Permits to Work are necessary before work on a machine or equip ment can begin. The aim of having different permits is to ensure that the work is carried out as safely as possible. The contact person will advise contractors of the need for a specific permit.

    Work requiring a permit

“Hot work”All work that involves the generation of heat or sparks requires a permit for “hot work”. In order to carry out such work a valid Nordic Certificate should be presented on demand. Permits for “hot work” are issued at the place where the work is to be done. The person doing the actual work is responsible for making sure that suitable fire extin guishing equipment is at hand.

Hygienic gas measurement, declaration of gas safety/gas clearance and portable gas metersHygienic gas measurements shall be made before work can begin in confined spaces or process machinery and equipment to make sure that there are no dangerous gases present.

A declaration of gas safety/gas clearance shall be made before “hot work” can begin in the classified areas (see Fire Risk Map) to make sure that there are no inflammable or poisonous gases present. Permits are then issued by qualified personnel.

A portable gas meter must be used when there is either a risk of exposure to dangerous gases or a lack of oxygen.

Information on how to use the gas meter is given either by one of the mill’s operators when the access permit is issued or by the person who does the gas measurement/gives the gas clearance declares gas safety.Gas meters and gas masks, if needed, can be borrowed at Skoghall Mill: ask your contact person.

Driving permitRelevant training is mandatory for persons who are to drive a truck or operate an overhead crane or mobile work platform. Contractors must show a valid permit issued by their employers. The contact person may provide contact for issue an operating permit for Skoghall Mill. The manager issues permits to their own personnel.

Safe shut downSafe shut down must be made before work can begin in pro cess machinery and equipment. This applies to electrical power, dangerous and hot media (> 45ºC), steam, sources of radiation, hydraulic and pneu matic installations. The operating/maintenance per sonnel or contractor must lock the isolating switch with their own personal padlocks.

Permit to Work (Temporary Access Permit)The Temporary Access Permit helps us create safe con ditions for work in and on process machinery and equip ment. The operating personnel are responsible for carrying out safe shut down. You must contact the operator in the control room in person before you begin

work, if you are interrupted or when you have finished, and register this in the Access Centre (computer support for Temporary Access Permits). To register in the Access Centre contractors need a valid SSG Entré pass, ie SSG basic train ing and Skoghall Mill’s local safety information held by the SSG. Mill personnel needs an access card.
