WELCOME
One of the biggest challenges facing the automotive industry is safety. Globally, the
number of fatalities, especially in developing and underdeveloped markets, has been
on the rise. And India has the dubious distinction of leading the pack.
About 1.25 mn people worldwide die in traffic accidents. Estimates suggest that 90
% of such deaths are caused by human error; reason enough to believe that driver
assistance systems would help bring down deaths and damages considerably. In its
objective of zero fatalities in road traffic, a phenomenal amount of research and
development is being carried out by the automotive industry, both in the active safety
and passive safety domains.
The Government and related agencies also have a significant contribution to make
in terms of regulating safety as per the needs of the market, and enforcing them to
ensure results. A strong will to implement safety regulations is an absolute must.
This exclusive safety technology seminar, titled “Safety Driven by Technology”, would
like to see a technology roadmap for the coming years take shape. I’d like to invite you
to participate in this seminar so that all kinds of technical possibilities are evaluated,
especially for India, and new directions are accepted for a safer road environment in
the country.
