WORK AT HEIGHT
Ensure usage of full body harness having hooks whileworking at heights and with proper anchorage.Provide life lines wherever anchoring provision is notthere, insure suitable access to the work location atheights
Temporary platforms should be provided with hand railsand there should not be any gaps between the metalboards used for platforms, Barriers should be providedon open edges, holes, floor openings, Permit for anycutting of grills, hand rails to be obtained.
Platforms should not be overloaded and should be keptfrom obstructions/ Ensure area to be barricaded whereheight works are under progress.
Ensure proper shielding against falling objects
PROPER ANCHORAGE
FALL FACTOR:
Fall factorexpresses the proportional seriousness of afall. It is the relationship between the length of the fall
and the rope available to absorb the impact force of the
fall.It is calculated using the following equation:
Fall factor = Length of the fall/length of the rope or
webbing used in the system
SWING FACTORAlways consider for
pendulum effect
while moving from
anchorage point It
should not be more
than 30 0

MATERIAL HANDLING
Ensure all lifting Tools & Tackles are tested &
tagged. All test certificates are available with
EICs.
Asses the load & plan the lift accordingly.
Ensure hooks are fitted with safety latches.
Do not use hydra for transporting material
under suspension Use Guide rope for lifting materials.
Use trailers for shifting heavy materials.
Ensure power working of horn, reverse horn,
all light fittings, limit switch of hydra and cranes
before putting in use
All slings to be used shall be properly tested and
tagged. Pre use check to be done continuously.

Only qualified electricians to carry out
electrical jobs.
Earth connection to be ensured for all electrical
power tools and welding machines.
Use of metallic portable electrical tools with
proper plug tops with proper earthing.
Each and every electrical socket should be
fitted with individual switch control unit. DBS / JBS and power terminal boxes should
be kept close.
Ensure usage of power supply extension boards
fitted with ELCBs for all temporary
connections.
Ensure usage of rubber hand gloves while
attending electrical works.

Disconnect the power supply when the equipment
not in use.
All temporary electrical cables should not be laid
on the walkways, platforms and on the floor. They
should be taken overhead.
Avoid joints in cables, if unavoidable, insulate the
joints adequately.
Do not use earth as Neutral, Fallow the work permit system and ensure isolation
of power supply before \starting any maintenance
job.
Ensure colour coding :
Earthing Green
Neutral Black
Phase Red Yellow Blue

WELDING SAFETY
A trained electrician of the agency shall ensure
proper electrical connections to the welding
machines.
Body earthing to be ensured to the welding
machines.
Welding machines should be placed at dry place
and material should not be kept around the machine.
Proper lugs to be used for welding cable
connections
Welding cables should not be laid across the
passage and it should be taken overhead,
Welder should use handgloves, shoes,
welding screen
fitted with helmet
and apron. 5
Helper must use welding goggles.
Ensure usage of proper plug tops while taking power
supply from welding receptacles fitted with ELCBs.
Provide barriers or proper shielding against welding
sparks falling over the cables or persons workingbelow the area.
While welding in confined area, proper ventilation
must be ensured.
5
GAS CUTTING SAFETY
Always secure gas cylinders in vertical postion both inuse and in storage by tying them to the fixed structure.
Use proper regulators, pressure gauges, flash backarrestors and hoses.
Use trolleys for transporting gas cylinders.
Cylinder should not be kept directly under the welding
or gas cutting area.
Use hand gloves, goggles, safety shoes and helmet whilecarrying out gas cutting works,
Gas hoses should not be laid across the walkways/platforms
Proper hoses to be used for fixing of hoses to theregulators and cutting torch,
Ensure hoses free from joints or cracks.6

POWER TOOLS SAFETYEnsure usage of proper plug tops and supply should
be taken through ELCB.
Donot expose power tools to rain and wet conditions
Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for
carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool.
Keep cord away from heat, oil sharp edges or
moving parts.Use personal protective equipment.
Always were eye protection.
Ensure usage of proper earthing.
Avoid loose connections and have proper insulation.
Only tested power tools like grinding/drilling machine
to be used.
Proper shielding to be provided against flying &falling Sparks due to grinding.
Ensure the validity period of grinding is not expired.Ensure usage of grinding wheel having suitable speed(RPM) with grinding machine,
7 Before handling any chemicals, always look forMSDS and act accordingly.
Do not cut empty chemicals drums which may
explode, if flammable.
Keep chemicals in cool and well ventilated
place.
In case of chemical splash , use eye washer
and shower nearby for atleast 15 min before
consulting First Aid center.
Always use Personal Protective Equipment whilehandling chemicals such as Chemical protective suit,Google, Chemical resistant hand gloves, Gum boots

SAFETY IN CONFINED SPACE
Obtain work permit for confined space entry.
Ensure one person at outside while working inside
the confined space,
Use 24 Volts power supply for hand lamps.
Ensure proper ventilation before entering into the
confined space.
Do not allow the power supply cables exposed to
sharp edges or any damage due to material / personnel
movement.
Before boxing up the confined space, ensure that men
& material removed from the confined space.

LADDER SAFETY
Ladder must extend one mtr. above lading area and
secure bothnends. Ladder should be free from oil,
grease, etc. slippery material.
Distance between rungs should not be more than
30cms.
