Hot Hot Hot !!! It’s August and as those here in the park know… It’s HOT! Many are using the pool to cool off while others stay inside with the air conditioner. There are still others that wait until evening to gather for bocce ball, shuffle board and walking. This month will be a little quiet as many are away on vacation trips. We will have a Super Bingo on Sunday, August 16. I want to thank all of those who helped with the 4Th of July Picnic. We had seventeen decorated golf carts with one to three participants in each. . We had a cool lunch in the club house and made it home before the rains came. As we use the month of August to continue to renew ourselves, let us look forward to a new and exciting year. Join in planning, leading and participating in our upcoming activities. We are all members of the Saddle Oak Club community. The HOA is for all home owners of SOC. Renew your membership or join if you haven’t done so. United we will be a stronger community. Sharing the work makes a job easier.

Judy Lott Saddle Oak Club HOA President

A sister smiles when one tells one's stories,

for she knows where the decoration has been added.

-Chris Montaigne

We know one another's faults, virtues, catastrophes,

mortifications, triumphs, rivalries, desires,

And how long we can each hang by our hands to a bar. We may

never forgive each other for what happened when we were five,

but

We have been banded together under pack codes and tribal laws.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? There are serious changes coming to every manufactured home owner in the state of Florida as large corporations purchase more and more of our communities. Unless the vast number of home owners across Florida, and especially in Marion County, begin to realize how important it is to remain informed and updated on a regular basis regarding their plans for our parks and our lifestyle, it really is futile to expect much from complaining. Remember, there is power in numbers.

The truth is – they have the power unless home owners wake up and take advantage of two important avenues that are available to each home owner paying monthly lot rent. From here on, IT’S UP TO YOU!

Everyone in Marion County is part of FMO District 13. FMO is the state-wide Federation of Manufactured Home Owners of Florida, Inc. This agency was created for our benefit and is dedicated to carefully watching over whatever happens up in Tallahassee in the Legislature that may adversely affect our community, our property value and our lifestyle. They keep us informed through a bi-monthly FMO News magazine which is full of helpful information as well as bulletins called WATCHDOG that let us know if we need to take action on an issue before the Legislature. Plus, your local leadership has been holding monthly FMO meetings at key communities within Marion County where any home owner can come to learn the latest helpful information and hear a guest speaker. The annual membership is only $25.00 and it is definitely the most important organization for home owners like us. The next local meeting will be September 23rd at Saddle Oak Club. Contact Nan Bull, Dist. 13 President at 237-0877 to become part of this vital organization or for more information. My husband, Bob, and I welcome an opportunity to speak to your HOA whenever possible. He has been an active leader in FMO for over 25 years!

The second organization that should be and can be most important to every home owner living in a rental community in Florida is their local Homeowners Association. One of the ways an HOA can serve the residents in their park is to help negotiate with management whenever an issue arises regarding amenities, services provided such as maintenance, the quality of their park and especially when the lot rent increase is excessive. The HOA Board is important in helping to generally keep the community running smoothly as well as sponsor special activities and hold monthly HOA meetings. The annual dues vary from park to park. A strong HOA truly is an asset for each home owner.

Sincerely, FMO District 13 President

FOR YOUR SUPPORTThank You! We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Saddle Oak Stitchers, Judy Miller, and our dear friends here in our wonderful community of Saddle Oak. We both wish to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for your thoughtfulness, kindness, and all your well-wishes and prayers. This is truly home.

Mike and Deb Libby

Thank you to all who came to the gathering after Bud's Memorial. I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to everyone, but I really appreciated your help and support. And thank you to all the many people who supported me during this trying time. Special thanks to Sue, Diane, Sharon, Sammi and Rita for getting things ready. I couldn't have gotten it done without your help. If I missed anyone, I'm sorry, but your help was appreciated. Thank you.

Joyce Hooper

I want to thank everyone for the prayers and cards for my Great-Grandson, age 3, who passed away from a tragic accident.

Carolyn Miller

FOR FATHER'S DAY LUNCHEON VOLUNTEERSI want to thank Rosemary and David Carson who shopped, served, set-up, cleaned-up and provided all the door prizes, Andrea Primas who helped set-up, serve and clean-up, Judy Lott and Gloria Paige who helped cook and clean-up, Jo Gearin who served and cleaned-up and Cindy Livingston who cleaned-up. All the help they provided made the Father’s Day luncheon possible. Many thanks also to Linda Otto for the great poster and the tickets (of which she does so often for all our events) and to Tony Pace who is always willing to be our ticket agent.

Without volunteers willing to help, these events would not take place. Thanks to those of you (90 in number) who came to the luncheon. I hope your day was as special to you as it was to me. Thank you!

SPECIAL DAYS IN AUGUST 2015

FRIENDSHIP DAY is celebrated on Sunday, August 2. A sincere and loving friend is definitely a gift and makes our lives more meaningful. In 1935, the US Congress proclaimed the

first Sunday in August as Friendship Day with the idea that friendship between peoples, regions and cultures can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.Friends can greet each other by sending greeting cards, gifts or flowers, but the best way to celebrate is to spend the day with your friends doing what you most enjoy, even if it's just a heart-to-heart talk to recall your mutual sweet memories.ift

PURPLE HEART DAY is observed on Friday, August 7. On this day in 1782, General GeorgeWashington, the commander-in-chief of the

Continental Army, created the “Badge for Military Merit,” a decoration consisting of a purpleheart-shaped piece of silk, edgedwith a narrow binding of silver, with the word Merit stitched across the face in silver. The badge was to be presented to

soldiers for “any singularly meritorious action” and permitted its wearer to pass guards and sentinels without challenge. The honoree’s name and regiment were also to be inscribed ina “Book of Merit.”

After the Revolutionary War, the “Book of Merit”was lost, and the decoration was largely forgotten until 1927, when General Charles P. Summerall, the US Army chief-of-staff, sent an unsuccessful draft bill to Congress to revive theBadge of Military Merit. In 1931, Summerall’s successor, General Douglas MacArthur, took up the cause, hoping to reinstate the medal in time. On February 22, 1932, Washington’s

200th birthday, theUS War Departmentannounced the creation of the “Order of the Purple Heart.” The Order of the Purple Heart, the oldest American military decoration for military merit, is awarded to members of the US armed forces who have been killed or wounded in action against an enemy. It is also awarded to soldiers who have suffered maltreatment as prisoners of war.

V-J DAY (VICTORY OVERJAPAN) is a day to remember thesacrifices that Veterans madeduring World War II. It is observedby Veterans groups on the secondMonday in August each year. Thisyear, that date is August 10. It was on August 15, 1945 that Japan unconditionally surrendered to the Allies, effectively ending World War II. President Truman declared the official V-J Day in the US to be September 2, as the Japanese formally surrendered in a ceremony performed on that day in 1945 in Tokyo Bay, aboard the battleship USS Missouri.Japan surrendered following the dropping of two devastating atomic bombs by the US, on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9) in 1945.

NATIONAL SENIOR CITIZENS DAY Some people celebrate Senior Citizens Day on August 14 as that was the day President Franklin Roosevelt

signed the Social Security Act in 1935. However, in 1988, President Ronald Reagan declared August 21 as the official day.

This observance was established in honor of senior citizens who made positive contributionsin their communities. The day was also createdto bring awareness of social, health, and economic issues that affect senior citizens.
