Allen College Students and Faculty Serve at Mission of Mercy ClinicSeveral graduate and RN to BSN nursing students from Allen College served Io-wans at the 7th annual Iowa Mission of Mercy clinic at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center on Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27. Q: The deadline for biometrics and nicotine screening is November 17. The last date for Allen screenings is October 11. Will more screening dates be available after October 11?

A: The final Allen Hospital screening is Saturday, October 11.Steve Sesterhenn, HR

Q: Will we get our biometric screen results back before enrollment for insur-ance begins to help us determine the most appropriate coverage for the next year?A: We estimate that by November 1, the information will be on My UnityPoint Portal. Allen Open Enrollment is Novem-ber 3 – 17.Steve Sesterhenn, HR

Q: What is the low end BMI for the insurance penalty?

A: The link between obesity and health risk is clear, and health risk drives up healthcare cost. That’s why UnityPoint Health is focused on BMI >35 in 2015. There is no lower limit yet.Steve Sesterhenn, HF

Q: How will biometrics aect preg-nant women? Will there be a higher BMI threshold so we can get the discount?

A: Pregnant members must participate in biometric screening at open enrollment. They will receive the wellness premium credit for participation. Abnormal labs must be rechecked three months postpar-tum with a recheck of member’s weight and BMI. If at recheck the member has a BMI >35 or meets criteria for Metabolic Syndrome, they must participate in well-ness coaching to continue to receive the wellness premium credit.Dr. Mark Barnhill, UnityPoint Clinic

Sad? Angry? Hopeless? When asked to describe the typical symptoms of depression, most people lean towards the emotional aspects, such as hopelessness, persistent sadness or irri-tability. Many times, however, depression can present itself in a series of physi-cal symptoms.

Headaches, back pain, muscle aches, chest pains, digestive system issues, extreme fatigue and sleep disorders can be a few of the physical symptoms of depression, a treatable condition that aects nearly 10 million Americans each year. Since many of these symptoms are also symptoms of other illnesses, it is easy to misdiagnose depression.

National Depression Screening Day is October 9, and UnityPoint Health –Allen Hospital invites you to take advantage of free, anonymous online mental health self-assessments for alcohol problems, depression, and anxiety disor-ders. Please visit UnityPoint.org/Waterloo/employee-assistance-program to complete a simple online questionnaire. You will receive immediate, custom-ized feedback as well as the opportunity to schedule an appointment for further evaluation if necessary.

Biometric testing, blood draws and nicotine screenings are all work-ing well. Here are several updates to help make the process even easier:

• All tests will be oered on all dates listed on the updated chart

• Allen Hospital tests will be oered 7 a.m. – 12 p.m.• Biometric testing (height, weight, blood pressure) will be in

the Allen Hospital Entrance 1 meeting room• Blood draws and nicotine screening will be done in the Allen

Hospital Lab

• United Medical Park tests will be oered:• Tuesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 9• 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.• Suite 103 A• Flu shots will be given at UMP at these two times

The Allen Lab asks all participants to fast for 12 hours prior to blood draws. If you do not fast, your results may show elevated glucose or lipids, which would qualify you for coaching you otherwise might not need. Morning medications with water are fine prior to your blood draw.
