There have been two such occasions in recent days with our recent Kapa Haka and Pasifika performances. A tremendous amount of work and preparation went into preparing for this annual event. The many hours of practice and sewing of costumes involved a great effort from a very supportive community. On behalf of the children we extend a heartfelt thank you to you all. This week we have class Masses from Tuesday to Thursday and you are most welcome to attend these special occasions. The term ends on Friday with a Music and Dance assembly in ‘Nga Maara’ our school hall. The Otago Dancers, who have been running Friday dance classes for most of this year, will present a performance of their work so far with our young aspiring dancers. Thank you all colleagues, staff, helpers and families for another memorable term at Sacred Heart. I hope you all enjoy great family times during the term break. God bless Paul Richardson ‘Pasifika’ Mufti Day on Wednesday On Wednesday this week we are planning to celebrate the term’s great success with a ‘Pasifika’ Mufti Day. The children are invited to wear or include a ‘Pasifika’ item in their mufti clothing. Extract from Our Special Character Review “The school has strong leadership from the Board of Trustees which has a good understanding of governance and Special Character. It has the leadership of an experienced Principal who has a strong personal commitment to the mission of the school. He has recently been joined by an Assistant Principal who has leadership and management in Special Character and who has an energy and enthusiasm for the school and its work. All staff are strong in their commitment to Special Character. Together the staff are the strongest agents for the school and the Proprietor.” Confirmed Report – 29 th June 2015 Otago Museum – Encore Performance We enjoyed a fantastic performance last weekend at Otago Museum and one of our best yet in a great venue with a most appreciative audience. To our leaders Mr Pesamino Tili, Whaea Emere, to all of our amazing helpers, I can’t find words to express our gratitude. The passion of children in their performance also sends a warm message of thanks as well. This was indeed a proud moment for our awesome Sacred Heart community. Thanks also to Kavanagh ‘Pacifica Vibes’ for your warm acknowledgement.

Student Contributions This week we have a report from our “Foreign Coorepondent” Iris who has

been travelling overseas with her Mum and Dad. Pippa and Alex talk about their experiences in the New World “My Little Kitchen “ Competition, and Vania has written a personal recount on her recent Kapa Haka and Pasifika performance experience.

Squirrels and Harry Potter! – A Report from Iris London - After the river cruise Mum and I went to St James park. It is known for its very tame SQUIRRELS!!!!!!!!!!! I was lucky enough to feed some of them. It may seem strange but their tails are partly transparent and fluffy. They are grey squirrels and are immune to squirrel pox but not Red squirrels they're extinct in London and only live in Scotland. They're very cute as you can see.

When we got to the Harry Potter Studios I got some photos then we got a audio tour and guess who introduced it? Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy - Harry Potter character). After that we watched a mini movie about the Harry Potter characters Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger and what they think about the films. Then we went to see the sets and we saw and did lots including standing on the Hogwarts Express and the Knight Bus. We also walked down Diagon Alley

Our first day in the Little Kitchen was quite nerve wracking. The guys at New World introduced themselves. Their names were Jess and Duncan. They gave us aprons, fancy caps and a recipe for lollie cake. We had about 5 minutes to walk around the store to find our ingredients and then we met back at the little kitchen. They said that we had 45 minutes to make the lollie cake “and you can grab any lollies you want, there’s no budget.” We then cut up the Eskimo lollies, put the butter into a bowl and heated it up in the microwave for 30 seconds. Once the butter was softened we added condensed milk and then we got a big clear snaplock bag and put the Malt biscuits into it. Alex smashed them up with a plastic rolling pin. We put in the Eskimos and the Hokey Pokey Chunks that we chose and then kneaded it all together into a ball. We put the ball on a cooconut surface, shaped it into a Taniwha and decorated it with lots of little lollies. Alex and Pippa

Maori and Pacific Island Festival. Last Wednesday the whole school went to the Maori and Pacific Island Festival. When the drum told us that it was time to go on stage most of us were shy but happy. I felt cold wearing the costumes because we have to get our singlets off. The stage was glittering from the light and reflections on the stage. When we were finished everyone clapped. I felt braver.
