Hello all! I hope you are all making the most out of your days, having fun, and staying safe. I have been busy working, house hunting, and I’ve started tutoring two days a week. I reached out to you all Thursday of last week, but just a reminder that Mrs. Houser and I are going to be delivering something special to each of our students today. We will start making rounds about 3:30 this afternoon and are looking forward to seeing you all!
NEWS FROM PRESCHOOL
I would like to give a shout out to Brantley who sent Mrs. Houser and I a picture of him working hard on his First and Last Name. Great job! Mrs. Houser and I would love to see how much progress has been made with the kids writing their names or letters. Please feel free to message us Facebook with pictures of the kids working hard and having fun.
~Miss Jessica and Mrs. Houser
This week for preschool work the kids should be fin-ishing up numbers 1-10 at least with doing the work-sheets that are in the num-ber packet for the numbers. They should also continue to review letters, sounds, and the numbers that they have already covered.
I sent a recipe out last week on how to make some really good play dough so this week I thought I would send out a recipe on how to make something a bit messy….
Fluffy Slime! I found this particular recipe on Pin-terest. If you don’t already have these items at home you can easily find them at any dollar store. Elmer’s Glue Baking Soda Acrylic Paint Shaving Cream Contact Lens Solution
Mix together all of the ingredients except the shaving cream and contact lens solution Add a few small squeezes of acrylic paint – about 1 teaspoon then stir Add about 3 cups of shaving cream Stir well until everything is combined. The mixture should be smooth, puffy and the colour should be con-sistent. It looks a little bit like whipped cream at this point. Pour 2 Tablespoons of contact solution into the glue mixture, and stir. As you stir, it will start firming up and getting stringy. Keep stirring until it has a good slime consistency and it stops sticking to the side of the bowl. If it gets too hard to mix with a spoon, feel free to use your hands to knead the mixture. If the slime is still sticking to your hands, add a little bit more contact lens solution into the mixture.
And then ENJOY!
KINDERGARTEN
Dear Families: We can not believe that the end of the year is here!! Things have
been so crazy and we appreciate all of the extra time and energy you put into your children this year. We know that it was not easy but you all did an amazing job. Please encourage your child to finish the year out strong and continue some studies over the summer. Study Island: There are no new assignments on study island. If you have not completed all the assignments, please keep working on them. We love how everyone is doing such a great job!!
Spelling Words: This week we are reviewing the /sh/ /th/ digraphs and adding
the /ch/ digraph. Please practice these sounds with your child when going over the new words with them. CHIN, CHOP, CHAT, RICH, SUCH, SHUT, CASH, RUSH, PATH, THAT. To practice these words, have your child write each word 3 times and write them in a sentence. I know this can be a challenge but it will help get them ready for first grade.
Reading: Practice your sight words that are in your binder. If you need new words
please let me know. You can keep reviewing these words all summer long. Also, keep reading and completing your 20 book challenge book reports. We have received re-ports from several students and love learning about all the books that you have read!! Some of you are very close to the 20 book goal!
Religion: This week we are learning about FAITH and TRUST. Please read these
stories and have your child complete the pages in the workbook. Vocabulary words: FAITH: believing in God even though we can not see him. TRUST: knowing that you will be safe with someone because that person loves you and only wants good things for you. #1 JESUS CALMS THE STORM (workbook pages 48-49) Jesus sometimes went with his friends the Apostles in their fishing boat. One day, Jesus asked his friends to take him across the lake. The lake was very deep and wide, but they did what Jesus asked. Jesus was very tired and took a nap in the boat. While Jesus was sleeping, a storm with great gusts of wind came up. The waves got bigger and bigger. Soon the water started to come in the boat and the Apostles knew they were in danger. They were very afraid. ¨Master, Master!”they cried. ¨We are all going to drown.¨ Jesus woke up and smiled at his friends. He looked across the water. Jesus commanded the wind and the water to be still. Right away, the wind stopped, and the water calmed down. The storm had ended. Jesus said to the Apostles , ¨Where is your faith?¨ All the Apostles wondered who Jesus was that the water and wind would obey him. Who is Jesus? We know that Jesus is God the Son. We believe in God and know that he is with us always- even when we are afraid, lonely, happy or sad. #2 NOAH´S ARK (workbook page 50) Noah was a kind and good man. He loved God and believed in him. He knew that God would take care of him always. God was pleased with Noah because Noah always tried to do what was right. God told Noah to ¨build a big boat called an ark. It must be big enough for you, your family, and two of every kind of ani-mal and creature.¨ God told Noah ¨Soon a flood will cover the earth, but I will keep you safe in the ark.¨
Building the big boat was not easy, but Noah obeyed God. Noah and his family worked
very hard together. Sometimes people would stop and laugh at them. ¨You do not
need a boat on dry land¨, the people would say ¨you should forget about this silly
boat and come have fun with us.¨ But Noah and his family did not stop working. Noah
said, ¨This is what God wants us to do. God knows what is best for us. We believe in
God.¨ When the boat was finished and the shelves were full of food, Noah led two of
every animal and creature inside. Then Noah and his family climbed aboard. Soon it
began to rain. It rained for forty days and forty nights. The water rose higher and
higher until the highest mountain was covered with water. God kept Noah and his
family and all the animals safe from the flood in the big boat that he had them build.
At last the rain stopped. Noah opened a window of the boat and sent out a dove.
When the dove returned, it was carrying a branch from an olive tree. Noah knew that
soon all the water would be gone. God sent a great wind to dry up all the water. Then
God told Noah to come out. The door of the boat opened, and all the animals were set
free. Noah and his family thanked God for keeping them safe. Then a beautiful rain-
bow filled the sky. ¨This rainbow is a sign of my love for you. I will never again send a
flood to cover the whole earth. The rainbow is a reminder to this promise¨, God said.
We believe in God and obey him, as Noah did. Even though we can not see or touch
God, we know he is with us wherever we go. God hears our prayers and takes care of
us. He keeps us safe in his love. When we live our faith, we act as images of God .
Writing and Math: We will be coming around to visit all of you and dropping off a
packet of work for you to complete. It will include a new writing buddy, math games
and reading games. There will also be an end of the year memory packet to fill out so
we can include it in your childś scrapbook.
We will also be bringing around a Fatherś Day project for the children to work on.
They have been ordered but have not yet arrived. When they do come in the mail, we
will get everything around that you will need to help your child complete the project.
If you have questions on this project or any of the assignments/work, let us know.
Please get your childś birthday book pages and 20 book challenge reports to the
school as soon as you can so we can get things around for the end of the year
Thanks for all you have done this year!!
Mrs. Downing Mrs. Marry
Dear families,
I wanted to thank you all for having faith and confidence in me, and for allow-
ing me to teach your children this year. What a wonderful time we had togeth-
er! I am so blessed to have met each student. If you have not yet received your
art surprise, please be patient and keep looking for one to come your way
over the next few weeks! Over the summer months please continue to use
your God given gifts and talents to be creative! Keep making the world a better
and more beautiful place through your art. Sending lots of love!
Here is week two of instruments to discover! Fourth graders should listen
each week to the different string instrument videos to start to get an idea of
what instrument they would like to play next year for Orchestra. To continue
our string family theme, this week you have two cellists to listen to. The cel-
lo is one of the larger members of the string family and has a beautiful rich,
low sound.
Yo-Yo Ma is a famous cellist who has traveled the world performing as both
a soloist and as a part of ensembles. He was born in Paris and began to
play the cello at age 4 and has played the cello ever since. This video is Yo-
Yo Ma performing a well known piece called Suite No. 1 in G Major https://

2Cellos is a cello duo (which we know means 2 people) from Croatia. They
have been making music together for several years and are equally exciting
to watch and listen to. Attached is a link to the group 2Cellos playing the
theme from the movie Pirates of the Carribean https://www.youtube.com/

READING, READING AND MORE READING – When you read this week,
answer these questions. 1. My favorite part of the story was________. 2. I liked the
story when the character said _________. 3. I felt _____________ (happy, scared,
surprised, sad, excited) when the character _____________. 4. The stories setting
reminded me of __________. Please continue to read throughout the summer, if
you would like to borrow books from the classroom please let me know.
Month of May Stories
Everyone received their, “My May Story” paper, and
I’m wondering how your stories turned out. I was able
to read Evan’s about Giggly Gail and her adventure
with Maddie. Lane shared his story about Kevin and his
magical radish sending him back in time. Writing takes
practice and these little stories help us become better
writers.
Feast Day: May 28 Saint Bernard –
A boy named Bernard who was born in Italy grew up
to become a priest. Later Bernard became a mission-
ary in the Swiss Alps. Bernard taught people about
Jesus, and built homes in the mountains to help lost
travelers. He spent much of his time rescuing lost
people in the mountains, he trained special dogs to
help him. Today the dogs are called “Saint Bernards.”
Bernard is the patron saint of mountain climbers. Let
us pray: Thank you, loving God, for Saint Bernard.
Just as he helped others, so may we help our parents
today. Thank you, too, for our animals who give us
love and protection. Amen
Have a fantastic
week and fabulous
summer!

believe that this is our last
weekly newsletter and assign-
ments. I am so thankful for all
your hard work and persever-
ance during this unusual time.
A special THANK YOU to all
our parents for committing
each day to learning!! We
love you!!
NEWS FROM MRS. SCHUTTE’S CLASS
I will only put a few assignments on Study Island this week and they will be optional and review. Please work on them only after you finish all the work given by May 15. What I assign this week will mostly be for those caught up and who want more to do. All re-quired work must be completed by May 25. I will be averaging the grades on Study Island in order to give some feedback on how the students did but please keep in mind this is not how grades would normally work and these should not be considered a marking period grade. For most students, the grades would look quite different if everyone had the same circumstances in the live class-room. Congratulate yourselves (parents too) on what went well and forgive your-selves for what could have gone better. That is what I am trying to do!
Welcome to the end of the year! Be-tween the last couple of months in quarantine and my surgery earlier this year, it has been the strangest school year ever but I can say I will definitely remember it! There are a couple of items I always mention in the last newsletter of the year and that is the most important thing to do this summer is to read!!! Accord-ing to Scholastic and other sources, a student reading just 3 or 4 novels during the summer is enough to keep them from losing academic ground over the summer. Of course it is great if they could read more. I love the quote from The Read Aloud Handbook from Jim Trelease, "The more you read, the better you get, the more better you get, the more you like it; and the more you like it, the more you do it." I gave a couple of quick book talks on our Zoom meeting this week about two new releases I read that I know the stu-dents will love. "The One and Only Bob" by Katherine Applegate is a fol-low up to "The One and Only Ivan" which the fourth graders read to-gether in class this year (and a few of the third graders listened in on). The other book was "Wayside Schools Beneath the Cloud of Doom" by Louis Sachar which is a long awaited addition to the series that many of my students have read and loved. The third graders read one of the books together in class this year also. They are available in hardcov-er and digital right now but kids books in hardcover are a lot cheaper than adult books in hardcover. Who knows, maybe libraries will open up eventually.
Our last Zoom meet-ing is Tuesday, May 19 at 2:00. If you can't make it please let me know so we can Facetime your presentation and text
your picture for your state report. The stu-dents will be sharing their project at the meeting. Here is the link. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81560144065 I want to ex-tend a big thank you to all the parents who have been teaching during this trying time! Your students and I couldn't have done it without you!
Good Morning Everyone! I am excited that we will finish this last
week of class strong by completing our study island assignments
and doing lots of reading!
Religion: Here is our final religion assignment of the year. This past week
was our final zoom meeting for the year, so since we will not be discussing
our work for the week together I would like you to take a picture of your
work when you are done and email it to me. Let me know if you have any
questions on your work by sending me an email or a message on study is-
land.
For this week:
5th Grade: Read Chapter 15 "The Father and I Are One" (pages: 67-
69) and in your Activity Book(using pencil) work on pages 59, 60, and 62
6th Grade: Read Chapter 23 "Speak Lord, Your Servant is Listen-
ing" ( pages 100-102 ) and in your Activity Book (using pencil) work on pages
89 through 92
Please make sure you are still reading. It is so important! If you need a book
from our room just let me know and we will set up a time for you to pick it
up. When you picked up your things from school I included your book list so
you can keep track from
Orchestra: Be on the lookout today in your email for an orchestra video lesson #
5. This is our final lesson and I can't wait to hear what you will accomplish this
week! Your job is to watch the lesson, use it to help you practice, and then create a
video of you performing the song(s) that I have assigned you. I am excited to contin-
ue hearing the great music that you are making at home!
A gentle reminder that if you have questions or assignments to turn in
you can always get in touch with me via
email: [email protected]

This week in Tech and PE
This being the last week of school,
we would normally be doing a field
day and I am sad that we are not
going to be together to do that! One
of the events that I was really look-
ing forward to was a balloon fight! I
would like to see what you guys
would plan for a field day and post
your activity on our school face-
book page!
This week in PE I will
be handing out Presi-
dential Physical Fit-
ness Awards! All stu-
dents in grades 3-6
will receive a form of
recognition. All stu-
dents that were tested met the
standard and a few were above
and beyond. I am very excited to
pass these out, the students
worked very hard and they all
EARNED an award! I will send
out meeting times as soon as
possible!
