On Saturday, May 3rd, our Vietnamese brothers and sisters will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of their community here in East Boston. The name of the community is significant. It was consecrated under the name Emmanuel. This is the name that was given to the Child in the Manger. We are told through the Gospels that Em-manuel means: “God is with us.” As pastor of this family of faith, I can testify that God is indeed with us through the prayerful and dedicated presence of so many in our Vietnamese Community. I join with all the people of Sacred Heart Parish in congratulat-ing our Vietnamese brothers and sisters and pledge the prayers of this parish family along with my own for the growth of the Vietnamese Community in East Boston particularly here at Sacred Heart.

This Friday, May 1st, we welcome our regional interim vicar Fr. James Flavin to Sacred Heart Par-ish. He joins us for the special Mass of Confirmation for the young men and women of our parish family. Fr. Flavin will administer this most beautiful sacrament to those who

have been preparing for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It is indeed a blessed time for our parish to see these young men and women witness, in a public fashion, to their faith. Please keep them all in your prayers during the week.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. Amen

The Sacraments

Baptism:Baptism:Baptism:Baptism: The sacrament is celebrated the Second Sunday of each month either during the 10:00 or 11:30 a.m. Mass. The following documents are required at the time of registering for a child’s baptism. • Original Birth Certificate • If the family lives outside of the parish bounda-

ries, a Letter of Permission from the parish they live in is required.

• Confirmation Certificates for the Godparents.

Marriage:Marriage:Marriage:Marriage: The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between bap-tized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament. Arrangements for the sacrament should be made at least six months in advance. The following documents are required for marriage. • Baptismal and Confirmation certificates for both. • A Marriage Preparation Certificate. • A Marriage License to be handed in at the time

of the Wedding Rehearsal.

First Holy Communion & Confirmation:First Holy Communion & Confirmation:First Holy Communion & Confirmation:First Holy Communion & Confirmation: First Holy Communion is the sacrament in which one receives for the first time Jesus present in the Holy Eucharist. The program is a two-year program beginning in the first grade. Confirmation is the sacrament in which baptized per-sons receive a special grace which strengthens them for the profession of the Catholic faith. Like First Holy Communion, this sacrament is a two-year pro-gram beginning in the ninth grade. To register for either of the sacraments, contact the Holy Family Religious Education Center at 617.567.6509. Anointing of the Sick:Anointing of the Sick:Anointing of the Sick:Anointing of the Sick: Through the prayers of the priest and the anointing with oil (blessed by the Cardinal), a person, in danger of death, receives this sacrament to give health of the soul and body. Reconciliation/Confession:Reconciliation/Confession:Reconciliation/Confession:Reconciliation/Confession: This sacrament of forgiveness and healing encom-passes four parts: contrition, confession, penance, and absolution. Confessions are heard at Sacred Heart each Saturday morning from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m., Saturday afternoon from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m., and Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Since the 16th century, the Church has devoted the month of May to Mary, Mother of God. Mary’s “yes” to God the Father allowed for our salvation through Christ Her Son. Sadly, we have seen the fervent praying of the Rosary decrease.

This column is meant to be a Rosary refresher. - Sign of the Cross - Apostle’s Creed - Our Father – Prayed for the intentions of

the Holy Father - Three Hail Marys – For and increase in the

virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity - Glory be to the Father - Fatima Prayer - Reflection on the Mystery of the decade - To begin each decade, pray the Our Father

followed by Ten Hail Marys, a Glory be to the Father, and the Fatima Prayer

- Hail Holy Queen

Next week: What are Mysteries of the Rosary and Next week: What are Mysteries of the Rosary and Next week: What are Mysteries of the Rosary and Next week: What are Mysteries of the Rosary and when are they prayed? when are they prayed? when are they prayed? when are they prayed?

Nessuno me la toglie: io la do da me stesso.
