SAINT ANTHONY MARY CLARET (1807 – 1870) Patron of Catholic press Feast Day - October 24 th Born in Sallent, Spain, the son of a weaver, the fifth of the eleven children of Juan and Josefa Claret. His father was a woollen manufacturer. As a child, he enjoyed pilgrimages to the nearby Shrine of Our Lady of Fussimanya. He received an elementary education in his native village, and at the age of twelve became a weaver. St. Anthony was ordained a priest in 1835. After five years, he began to give missions and retreats all over Catalonia. Seeing their success and the people’s need for them, he founded (in 1849) the Congregation of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Claretians) to continue this work on a wider scale. In that same year, he was consecrated Bishop of Santiago de Cuba. Finding the diocese in a deplorable spiritual condition, he quickly initiated vigorous reform measures, one of which was the establishment of the Teaching Sisters of Mary Immaculate. In 1857, he was recalled to Spain and made the chaplain of Queen Isabella II. This position made it possible to continue his mission work by preaching and publishing. He established a museum, library, schools, and a laboratory, also helping to revive the Catalan language. He spread devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and after the revolution of 1868 ended his life in exile with the Queen in 1870. He was canonized in 1950 by Pope Pius XII. “Life Chain” - A Prolife Event

“Life Chain”, a prolife event will be held this

Sunday October 22nd, from 2-3 pm in

Alamogordo. The respectful and silent

demonstration will be held on the corner of

10th street and White Sands Blvd. in

Our Lady of the Light Food Pantry - Thank you for your continued support of the Food Pantry. The Food Pantry is in need of the following food items this month: HOT & COLD CEREAL,POTTED MEAT & TUNA, PASTA SAUCE, CANNED VEGGIES & FRUIT, RAMEN NOODLES CANNED SOUP, PEANUT BUTTER, DRIED BEANS & RICE, MAC & CHEESE, STUFFING MIX, CRANBERRY SAUCE, CANNED PUMPKIN, SMALL FLOUR & SUGAR, & BATH SOAP. The OLOL Food Pantry served 471 families with 1,350 people in those families in September. Thank you for your donations & support.
